I remember the days of playing Super Mario Bros. 54. I always loved it when bowsers brother cousin clone sister husband princess captured donkey peachs magic peaches flowers and said "this time, shy guys right hand man will not stop my plans!" And then it cuts to Mario, holding his mega Glock, saying "game over, bowser"

I have so many questions about the design decisions.
Why did they turn Buzzy Beetles into stompable Spinies that are basically just Goombas? I thought they were going to have Lakitu throw something else, but he doesn't.
Why are all the water levels designed like normal levels?
What's with the random curtain pole things that never seem to be placed anywhere important?
Why does the first world have a warp instead of a boss, but not the rest?
Why are there trees on the water?
Why is there more water in the water?
Why are there invincibility shells?
Why?!
Are the new Spinies replacing green cheep cheeps? They have the same palette... but then why leave out Buzzies?
As the creator of the hack, I tell you that:
1. I created as a beginner hack in 2017, since I started Mario hacking from that year.
2. You can guess that if I was newbie at that time, no proper ASM knowledge either (nowadays I have some general ASM knowledge, even if I stuck sometimes, etc.)
3. There wasn't GreatEd (or similar superior SMB level editors) at that time, so I had to think wisely how to design levels with SMB Utility.

Great game, the only things that seem to be missing are bonus areas through pipes and traditional 1ups. Real heroes would never get soft locked in challenging sections that require wall jumps, but needing to kill enemies before the flag is an odd presumed glitch correction. These original style smb hacks are my absolute favorite, thanks for playing as always 🌟

All those Toad sprites in the levels weird me out, because Toad seems like an element you should be able to interact with lol
If there was super mario bros 4, I'm sure it would look similar to smb3, except with less power ups and a new companion/sidekick character that would be kinda one of the reasons they are going against king koopa. They would be like a power up but when eating something specific, like berries or idk... Koopa shells. Oh yea! 2 brand new colors for koopas most likely and they would lose their shells when mario jump on them. But that's crazy... Too bad nintendo never made a mario game like that 🤔
Yeah too bad, they just keep making the same game but altered, it's getting tiring seeing no visual upgrade today or even anything new

I would have loved if they kept numbering the games consistently, but they couldn't really do that after SMW because everything deviated way too much. So they only could have gone up to 4 until New Super Mario Bros. came out.

Calling the water “Blue Lava” is like calling the lava “Red Water” lol!
Those chains of brown balls that you can climb on are actually an unused object that exists in the original game and Lost Levels’ source code. They were originally intended to hang from the tree tops a-la Donkey Kong Junior.
I kinda like the outdoor castle stages. The color palette looks very winter-y, like everything is covered in snow. It’d look great for a Christmas hack
I wonder if there is a hidden warp to world 7 somewhere in the game.
I don't know if there is an area to recommend levels, but you should play Super Mario Skycastle, if you haven't already. One of the best Super Mario Bros hacks I've seen
There is a Super Mario Bros 4. When it was released in Japan it was called Super Mario Bros 4, but then when it got an international release the next year the games official name was permanently changed to Super Mario World.
It's called Super Mario World: Super Mario Bros 4
Super Famicom cart has both titles: Super Mario World in the big multicolor text that we know and love, but with Super Mario Bros. 4 next to it in smaller print. I don't know why they didn't do the same for the U.S/international release.
Meanwhile in Japan, Yoshi's Island is just "Super Mario: Yoshi's Island" not "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island" (or Super Mario Bros. 5).
And of course let's not get started with the Super Mario Advance numbering.
The hack is supposed to be set in an alternate universe where that didn't happen. It's the sequel to a previous hack titled Super Mario Bros. 3: The Forgotten Worlds.

Actually, the Nelsonic Game Watch version of Super Mario World was released internationally as Super Mario Bros. 4, and is therefore Super Mario Bros. 4 technically does exist, even outside of Japan. (fact that I learned from jan Misali)

Clouds are always under the water! It's in the instruction manual with the dome over the flat Earth that sits on the pillars. The water is above the dome. Clouds are under it. So this level is next to the dome. It's a space level!

There's definitely a bit of jank to the level design, but there are also some pretty neat design ideas too.

Bowser couldn't build the castle that's impossible to navigate because it would also be impossible for him to navigate it. Mario's an intruder who's not supposed to be on his property the same as if I came to your house and started rummaging through your stuff. You wouldn't build your house impossible to navigate just because someone got into your house...
They're clearly not houses or living spaces lol. There's tons of traps, giant spike bars, things trying to slam you to death, and fire and death everywhere
