This is one of my favorite deep cuts from Queen. That Guitar clearly explains why Brian May is regarded as one of the best guitar players of all time. Both Freddie and Brian wrote the guitar lines, the style influenced by Jeff Beck but the song was mostly written by Freddie.

Brian often said that his guitar was his 'voice'. In Bijou he gets to do the verses and Freddie adds a vocal solo. It is dreamlike as you said, Rory. Queen were always looking to take music one step in a different direction.

Brian plays as beautifully as Freddie sings here 😌 . Impossible not to be in love with this song. You’re right about it being very atmospheric. For me bijou means delicate and dainty and exquisite … like a small jewel … seems like a song Freddie would write.

Thanks Rory, one of my favorite Brian May songs (BEE-jou in French means precious little gem)... another one similar is "Last Horizon" ... or "Dream of Thee" is a song off the French movie soundtrack Brian did in 1998 for the movie FURIA... another reason why I call them "Master Manipulators of Emotions"... thanks again... blessings.
This song is almost like Brian's guitar is crying. It always brings a tear to my eye. The meaning is "rare jewel"

This song seems to me to be a “love song” between Freddie and Brian - expressing the beauty of their friendship, being destined to be together forever, and Freddie kind of saying goodbye, acknowledging their effect on each other’s lives, and Brian’s guitar just wailing - it sounds like even the Red Special is grieving, but then those notes rise and ascend, so sad and yet strangely hopeful, maybe knowing that Freddie’s suffering would end sooner rather than later. This is one of my favorite Queen songs and when you listen to Brian talk today about Freddie, he speaks of how he thinks about him often, and knows what he would say about things - so I think’s Freddie’s words ring true. May be totally off on the meaning of it, but Freddie always wanted people to determine their own meaning to his songs …

I once resided in small town where one of the movie theaters was The Bijou..pronounced 'Bee-ju' .... perhaps it was 'small and elegant'. EDIT...isn't it said this was one of Freddie's tributes to a cat? Wikipedia has a great paragraph about this track....lovely read.

It means something small and precious like a trinket. Best way I can help you pronounce is Bee Jew. Brian’s best guitar work in my opinion. Freddie was gravely ill during the making of this Innuendo album.
