Freddie’s used his baritone here. His voice was magical and he looked so healthy although he was dying. I believe he was probably on steroids because his face was fuller and the drug allowed his vocal chords to heal because it is an anti inflammatory. I love this song. I can never fall asleep after watching this video. My heart is pumping. His smile at the end says it all.
This is definitely my favorite song on their album, I think that after singing with Queen's four-part choir (which turned out to be 100 beautiful harmonic voices) Freddie finally sang not only with his favorite singer in the world, but with a choir whole, which also shines through his love for Aretha Franklin's music. It's clear how happy he is there, as well as throughout the creation of this album.
Great reaction! Yes it’s an amazing performance! Freddie wrote this music with Mike Moran and Tim Rice. Freddie loved Gospel music and R&B. He said in interviews he wanted to perform more of this type of music with Queen but the other band members wanted to stick to Rock Music. He also loved Aretha Franklin. He loved her Gospel recordings and said he tried to emulate that style in Somebody to Love. He said her singing was effortless and when he passed one of his favorite gospel recordings by Aretha was played at his funeral.
Seeing this masterpiece I can only imagine what else they couldn't create together... great inspirations, who else would think of a transition between rock, opera and gospel?

This was Freddie's last stage performance, his health started deteriorate quicker in the next year. If you want to listen to something very special, try the demo of the Fallen Priest, called Rachmaninov's revenge, where Freddie sings Montserrat's parts as well. You will be blown away.
