Though I had never heard this song before, I fell in love with it as I was listening. The two of them did a TERRIFIC job singing this together, with the orchestra carrying them along, as well. Just beautiful! Thank you VERY much, Miguel, for a GREAT reaction to a very, very lovely song.

Freddie always wanted to do an Opera, Bohemian Rhapsody and this were the nearest he got, both totally amazing.

Montserrat Caballé was one of the greatest opera divas of the last century, she had magical voice and she was a great actress, too. David Mallet directed this video, but he also collaborated with the Queen beforehand. He directed some of Freddie's solo videos like The Great Pretender, Made in Heaven, I Was Born To Love You, they had a very good and creative relationship. According to David Mallet the best way to direct Freddie was not to direct Freddie. 😂If you are interested in making Barcelona, you can find a mini documentary called Finding Freddie (episodes 4,5,6,7), each one is just about 5 min. long.
The story goes…Freddie was super nervous bc he knew how over the top and dramatic he could be on stage & he didn’t know if that would somehow be in bad form. He was reassured when he was told, she’s going to out diva you, Freddie.

This is a link to Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe. She is a well-known Italian opera singer. Freddie was a long time fan of Opera. In particular he felt Montserrat had the best singing voice of any opera star. She was from Barcelona. The song had to be completed by 1988 to be considered for the opening ceremonies of the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. Freddie told her 2 two years prior to his death that he would not be there to sing it with her because he had AIDS. From what I have pieced together she was the first person that he told even though his bandmates were seeing symptoms in him. The gentleman conducting the orchestra is Mike
Moran, who co-wrote the song with Freddie, and not Brian May ( you my be reacting to a different performance of Barcelona) have a different clip than the one most people react to. Not that that matters they're both awesome in and of themselves. But in the other one the conductor does look like Brian May because of the hairstyle and it's at night). So it could be the same gentleman conducting the orchestra but during the day you can tell it's not Brian May.. People get confused because they have similar hair styles. After Freddie had passed other singers contacted her to see if they would collaborate with her. She said that that was something special between her and Freddie and she was not ever going to repeat it . There are several videos on CZcams of interviews with her talking about Freddie and their collaboration. There's also a video of how they originally hooked up I just don't remember the name of it. This song tells the story of how they first met in the lobby of the hotel in Barcelona. They were both so nervous to meet but they immediately fell in love. When she stepped into the room she took his breath away. She enjoyed the freedom of singing outside of a rigid format. They stayed up all night at times Creating together with Mike Moran on the piano. She left his home at daybreak.

She said in an interview that people were outside & saw her leave his house at 6am & were scandalized that she spent the night at Freddie's house! They & Mike Moran were singing , talking & drinking wine.
