That intro is perhaps one of the most iconic lines ever delivered on television. It marked the beginning of each and every episode of the original Star Trek series. The science fiction series was originally created by Gene Roddenberry, whose creative genius earned him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well as induction into the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame, as well as the Science Fiction Hall of Fame.
The original Star Trek series aired on September 8th, 1966, and ran for a total of three seasons and 79 episodes until it ended on June 3rd, 1969. Despite only lasting three seasons, Star Trek is one of the most enduring pieces of media to come out of its time. Since its debut, it’s inspired a total of eight new television series, thirteen films, as well as countless books and games. Overall, it’s probably the single most influential television series ever created, and it’s had a lasting impact on science fiction media ever since its birth.
Even though the original Star Trek is now an enduring cult classic, its ratings during its broadcast were dishearteningly low, which is why it was canceled so prematurely. Still, after it was broadcast in syndication, audience members all over the country were given a second chance to appreciate the show’s genius.
Despite being set very far in the future, the creators of Star Trek wanted to use the show as an opportunity to discuss issues that face us today, such as racism, classism, sexism, and war. Even though the episodes’ narratives often had more serious undertones, the show was primarily an action/adventure series with many comedic elements. Still, the writers weren’t afraid to add elements of drama when it was called for.
Star Trek’s writing and worldbuilding have always been two of its greatest strengths, but one more element that made Star Trek so amazing was its cast. The show’s colorful characters were played by an impressive ensemble cast of actors, including Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, and William Shatner.
Sadly, because Star Trek aired so long ago, many of those amazing cast members have since passed away. In today’s video, we’re going to take a look at the cast members of the original Star Trek series who have died. Make sure you stick around because we’re also going to reveal how one actor received a space-worthy funeral after his tragic death. We hope you like this video, and don’t forget to subscribe to Facts Verse for more!
Original Star Trek Actors Who Have Died - Zábava
For the love of God, why would you leave out DeForest Kelley (Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy)??? He was one of the three main characters of the show.
And Majel Barrett Roddenberry?
I like your handle, it's a hoot! I agree with you. This is nuts!
He was the first to go.
Y'know..I think you're right!
The list is a bit thin!!! And just think the common cold was never cured in the 23rd century!!! But I think Bones tried.😅😅😅
Here few more actors did not mention:
DeForest Kelley as Dr. McCoy - June 11, 1999
Grace Lee Whitney as Janice Rand - May 1, 2015
Majel Barrett as Christine Chapel - December 18, 2008
Mark Lenard as Sarek - November 22, 1996
Robert Walker Jr. as Charlie X - December 5, 2019
Dammit Jim, this guy forgot all about me
Oof 😅
Rip to all those who have died.
Forgot to mention De Forest Kelley, who played Dr McCoy
You left out deforest kelly
Admittedly surprised to here James Dohan almost was fired from being Scotty...I honestly can't imagine Star Trek without Scotty anymore than I could imagine it without Spock.
Beam me up Scotty! 💯😎✌️
Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelly, James Doohan and many more aren't really gone, they've just gone on to The Undiscovered Country. 🖖
They're really not dead, as long as we remember them.
Why did you not talk about Deforest Kelly who played "Bones", the doctor?
Ikr
I watched this video twice thinking I missed it lol , turns out they forgot one of the most popular characters on the show …
You forgot DeForest Kelley aka Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy
One big miss for This list
I said the same thing they forgot DeForest Kelley
yaw forgot DeForest Kelley, redo this video and include him
I forgot. So did this guy. OOPS
Ikr 😤😭
How was it only 3 seasons??? I’ve been watching it 55 years and never get tired of it.
I had heard from a friend that it might have had something to do with the networks. I could be mistaken though.
@@byronlee8745 It was the network. NBC did all it could to cause the Original Star Trek series to get cancelled using the nielson ratings game to kill off the series and also putting it on a death day, death time zone to accomplish their mission.
@@danbasta3677 man those networks were overbearing!
I loved every character 💖
How could you have left off the actress who played Nurse Chapel, the wife of the show’s creator?
she did guest appearances on TNG, DS9 and did the computer voices for TNG, DS9 and Voyager how could they leave her out
She was also in the original pilot of Star Trek
Missed several noteworthy ones. DeForest Kelley (Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy), one of the top three billed stars, passed away in 1999. Majel Barrett, who played "Number One" in the pilot, Nurse Chapel in the series and various other roles in Star Trek over the years, also the wife of Gene Roddenberry, passed away in 2008. Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, passed in 1991. Since Jane Wyatt was mentioned, having played Spock's mother, it should also be noted that Mark Lenard, who played Spock's father Sarek, as well as a Romulan commander in "Balance of Terror" and a Klingon commander in ST:TMP passed away in 1996. Jeffrey Hunter, the actual movie star who played Captain Christopher Pike in the pilot, died in 1969. Other significant Trek actors were Grace Lee Whitney (Yeoman Janice Rand) who passed in 2015 and Roger C. Carmel (Harry Mudd) passed in 1986.
Impressive. You should have done this video, it would have been more complete.
@@emichaelny336 Facts Verse gets a lot wrong. When they were talking about Michael Ansara, the Star Trek clip was actually John Colicos as Klingon Commander Kor, also known for playing Baltar in the 1970's Battlestar Galactica. He died in 2000. I used to think CZcamsrs got paid more for more comments. FactsVerse gets a lot wrong and that causes comments, so I thought it was intentional to generate comments, but apparently they don't get more $$$.
You forgot Deforest Kelly and John Winston who played Lt. Kyle on the show. Shame on you.
I remember crying as an 8-year-old when I found out about DeForest Kelly (Dr. McCoy) death. May they ALL rest in peace ❤
Leonard Nimoy was the best actor in star trek.
👍👍👍
❤
Yes. He was regarded as one of the best actors
Rest in peace to all of them
Same
What Happened to the mention for Marjel Barrett and Deforest Kelly??? Dude are you Serious?? You named people who had a single appearance on the show but omitted those two??
I first seen Star Trek series in the year 1984. I was impressed by such kind of sci fi story as a youth in that time.
What about bones? Ohura and Checkov?
Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) and Walter Koenig (Chekov) are still alive....although its been reported that Nichelle has been diagnosed with dementia in 2018 and has since retired from attending conventions
Mccoy passed and they didnt say him and the other two are still with us
Deforest Kelly died but the other two are still alive so far as I know.
Wonderful actors! So glad they all lived such full and long lives. XO
👽💚👽💜👽💚👽💜👽💚👽💜👽💚👽💜👽💚
Mr. Spock will live on in our hearts...
My favorite episode was The Trouble With Tribbles.
My favorite episode was the Way to Eden about the space hippies.
Nichelle Nichols, LT Uhura has now left us...RIP.
I was a little kid when it aired and spent many hours watching it with my dad, even the reruns. I was the only one who'd watch it with him. 😃 I became a huge fan of space and sci-fi ever since.
What a wonderful bonding element with your father - I envy you.
James Doohan was nearly fired where would the Enterprise be without her engineer?
"Live long and prosper." -Spock
We have lost so many Trek Alumni I cried 3 days when Spock died These people will never be replaced🖖
The picture you showed was the wrong Klingon. You showed Commander Kor (John Colicos) from "Errand of Mercy.
Nimoy over Shatner? No. Shatner is on top because he played the central role. Nimoy had a character that was unique in two ways--logic and ears. Those weren't his inventions. Nimoy was a better director of ST TOS films, no doubt. But Shatner was the star the entire way.
Loved this series and the film's, may the lost rest in peace 🙏, great video thanks 🖤
Love Batgirl and THE GREEN DANCER...ZZZ TOP "She Got Leggs"
Would like to see a video on Fantasy Island, another old favorite. Thank you
They all lived for a long time. Amazing.
I love this series. I used to watch it. If could find it it I would buy it , all the episodes.
Definitely my favorite ST series
Bones! Where the hell is Bones? There’s no Star Trek without Bones!
Ummm where is DeForest Kelley and Mark Lenard?? You really dropped the ball on that one.
Man I love them and use to watch this all the time love Kurt and doc and Scotty I'm giving her all she's got Captain 🤣🙂 miss and love you guys Rip my friends and peace and love
Rip to all those who have died they are gone but not forgotten they all will live on forever in our heart's 🖖🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💜✝️
You forgot to mention Mark Lenard who played Sarek--Spock's father
majel barrett was great actress too
not sure how you would define "great" I thought she was okay...
In my time-line, captain Kirk have said "Beam me up, Scotty". DAMN YOU MANDELA!
No Love for Gene Roddenberry It's creator. DeForest Kelley as "Dr Leonard McCoy AKA "Bones". Grace Lee Whitney, better known as Captain Kirk’s sometime love interest, Yeoman Janice Rand. And what about Jeffrey Hunter who starred in "The Cage" The Original Pilot and The Original "Captain Christopher Pike".
The youngsters who were fascinated when the original show aired were huge fans when the original Star Trek movie hit the theaters. As they say the rest is history!
Keep on Living & Prospering Bill ! ♥
Well. There goes another chunk of my childhood killed off.
People will be kicking themselves in few weeks if they miss the opportunity to buy and invest in bitcoin
I wanted to trade crypto but got confused by the fluctuations in price
@@smithmalon8377 That won't bother you if you trade with a professional like Mr George Hendrick
I heard his strategies are really good
Yeah
My first Investment with Mr George Hendrick me profits of over $24,320 US dollars and ever since then he has Been delivering
He has really made a good name for himself
3:05 is three pictures Of Michael Ansara the left and right as two different versions of a Klingon but at 3:24 is picture of John Colicos that died March 6, 2000 at age 71. John Colicos was in Star Trek episode Errand of Mercy as Kor In 1967. He also played Count Baltar on 21 episodes of Battle Star Galactica in 1978 thru 1979.
I loved all these
You forgot margel barrett who played nurse Chappel
I didn't know Leonard Nimoy had COPD...I suffer from that and it is no fun. RIP everybody PS Why no mention of Deforest Kelly who played Bones?
Well said,well, said. I really 💕💕💕💕 loved ⭐ Star Trek ❤️❤️
You forget Deforest Kelly
Great video. There is a error in your video. The bio on Michael Ansara you showed actor John Colicos dressed as a Klingon.
*Nice*
Left out DeForrest Kelley, who played McCoy, and the First Lady of Star Trek, Majel Barrett, - two of the most glaring omissions among others.
Are you including cast from the original pilot?
I am glad that James Doohan was not fired. 😁
On Micheal Ansara's entry, the Klingon you show is Kor (John Colicos).
Michael Dunn played a character named Alexander in Star Trek episode titled Plato's stepchild which aired Nov. 22, 1968. He also played Dr. Miquelito Loveless on several episodes of The Wild Wild West. He died August 30, 1973 at age 38.
What about the doctor ? Mccoy
I was most surprised to learn that James was almost not a part of the series
спасибо, хорошее видео
YOU FORGOT T ' PAU , MR. ATOZ , VIC TAYBACK AND SEVERAL OTHERS !
You forgot deforest kelley
Nimoy also wrote songs and many ... which were freaking awesomely funny...were played on the Dr. Dmental (?) who was just as awesome as Wolfman Jack.
If you are here, you already know the back story, skip to 01:33, it's just fluff & padding.
forgot Michael Pataki. you showed him but didnt not mention him. he was on both tos and tng .
ERROR!
At 3 minutes 23 seconds you show actor ,John Colicos who played the Klingon Commander Kor in "Errand of Mercy".
Michael Ansara first appeared in the ST:TOS episode, "Day of the Dove." .
Leaving out DeForest Kelly who played the role of Doctor McCoy in t.v., movies, and video games from 1966-1993. McCoy was a key member of the Enterprise crew and a confidant of Captain Kirk.
The three main characters of Star Trek, Kirk, Spock & McCoy, represent Aristotle's 3 branches of persuasive rhetoric. Kirk is the ethos (ethic), McCoy is the pathos (emotion), and Spock represents logos (logic).
have to say that the most shocking was James Doohan almost being fired from the show...
That's John Colicos at 3:24, not Michael Ansara.
What about Nichelle Nichols, who played Lt. Uhura?
My family used to watch the television show. It was supposed to have been something like Gunsmoke in space. That was of course the 1# Nelson rated show.
Roddenberry was asked to put the show together by NBC.
Seriously !!! that Kilngon isn't him...not to mention Doc...come on man!!!!!
It's death Jim, but not as we know it...
You forgot Tribble no:16!
you forgot Grace Lee Whitney who played Janice Rand
Funny how Kahn and Chekhov greeted each other in wrath of Kahn even though Chekhov wasn't even a character in Space seed.
Wrath of Khan.
What about De Forest Kelly ??
You know you can't fire a Canadian from a TV show We are just too good.
I see you dont have any likes LOL
Why is William Shatner in the thumbnail 🤔? Pretty sure he's still alive.
He is i think he is 91
@@faithfultotheend5202 does this uploader not like him lol.
To those main bridge crew we have lost in the Star Trek entire cannon:Creator Gene Roddenberry. TOS: Leonard Nimoy (Spock),DeForest Kelley (McCoy/Bones),James Doohan (Scotty),Majel Barrett-Roddenberry (Christine Chapel),Grace Lee Whitney (Janice Rand). TNG: Thankfully they are still with us. DS9: Rene Auberjonois(Odo),Aron Eisenberg (Nog). Voyager,Enterpise,Discovery. All still with us
Did not know James Doohan was almost fired fro Start Trek
You know, you'd be better off listing the actors who have NOT passed away yet: Takei, Koenig, Nichols (who is not at all well anymore after what is said to have been several strokes), and of course The Shatner who seems to be death-proof.
What about Dr. Leonard ( Bones ) McCoy how could you leave him out of you story about Star Trek
80 episodes. Because The Cage was followed up in The Menagerie, TOS is 80 episodes
DeForest Kelley?
Don't worry all bones fans won't forget him Rip Dee Kelly.
yvonne Craig was the only orion slave girl to appear in star trek. Vina's portrayal as one, was an illusion.
what about the ships Dr. macoy, he died too but they left that out.
William Shatner, Gorge Takai & Walter Koenig are the only ones left.😢
True! May all those who passed away find peace 🙏
So, you eulogize Michael Ansara, while showing footage of John Colicos.
What a grim title, is a U.S translator used for this?
Facanating......Ireland
Did he forget to include DeForest Kelley in here? He played Dr. Leonard McCoy and died of stomach cancer. Please take it down and include DeForest Kelley and Nichelle Nichols before reposting this video! Thanks!🙏
Nichelle Nichols (/nɪˈʃɛl/, born Grace Dell Nichols; December 28, 1932 - July 30, 2022)
RIP William Shatner.
