    Safety was also from the collapsing steering column in addition to the padded surface at the steering wheel. I wonder if the driver really knew all the features for safety?

    I grew up in these cars in California they are so well made and maintainable unfortunately after the w123 they become service nightmare that are only designed like American Cars last ten percent past their warranty....
    planned obsolescence is why I never recommend German to anybody!
    they have mastered it

      Bret H I had a 1984 BMW 318i coupe in henna-rot color! It was a very reliable and fun to drive car. The chief of maintenance was my friend and he helped me take care of it, i even bought books on how to maintain it! It lacked power steering and air conditioning, however, both could be fitted. Also in the rear it had pull out windows with chrome accents similar to the pioneering BMW 2002. I still long for it but haven't seen it in a while!
