  • A muscle roller stick like the one from Doeplex can be a great way to help relieve muscle knots and sore muscles almost anywhere on your body. Purchase the Doeplex muscle roller stick here: amzn.to/2Mz4dZA (affiliate link)
    The Doeplex muscle roller stick is very sturdy, and its independently spinning rollers are great for getting deep down into the muscles to provide targeted pain relief.
    Roller sticks are very useful when rolling out muscles because you can use them almost anywhere, and you can control the pressure on the muscles. They can be used on larger muscle groups like the quads, calves, and lower back. You can also use them on smaller muscle groups like the anterior tibilias, wrist extensor and flexor muscles, as well as neck muscles.
    Muscle roller sticks are also great for trigger points. Trigger points are basically knots in the muscles that are very tender to press on. They can also have referred pain to other areas of the body. Using a roller stick to relieve trigger points and sore muscles can be a great way to get pain relief.

    This thing is a necessity for skateboarders. It hurts when you use it but then the tension goes away after use. Really effective to use in between gym days on a split, or before and after a skate session.

    You recommended a vibrating massage ball which I purchased and I like a lot. What is the difference? The roller looks like it would feel great. Would having both be redundant?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  Před 5 lety +3

      The massage ball is great for specific trigger points, but I like the roller for general muscle soreness, and maybe more than one trigger point since it allows you to move the stick a little more freely and it's not quite as much specific pressure. I like both, and don't think they would be redundant :-) Good luck.

    How do you know if the muscle stick is working? Does the pain go down/away immediately after use?

    • @XxGlaciersOfIcexX
      @XxGlaciersOfIcexX Před 2 lety

      I excercise a lot.
      I've been dealing with a calf ache for over a week.
      I used a massage stick, rolled slowly, and firm, over the achy spot.
      It hurt like a sunuva gun!
      I used the stick daily, sometimes 2x a day.
      It took 3-4 days and the ache went away, in my case.
      I've used a massage stick other times and the aches went away in one day.
      It promotes blood flow, they're effective.
      Just don't think your going to rub the pain away in 30 seconds.
      Hope this provided you with some clarity.

    Dr. Jo, can I use the roller on my knees?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  Před 3 lety +2

      It's best used on the muscles, not the joints themselves, but it can be used on the muscles around the knees.

    How long should you roll one muscle?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  Před 5 lety +7

      It really depends on what muscle and if it’s just for muscle soreness or an injury. In general, I would only start with 15-20 seconds and slowly progress from there if there is no increased pain to a few minutes.
