If the argument is that Anthony Bennett was about as good as the other top 10 prospects, thus not necessarily deserving of #1 overall, it's still a bad pick, and thus a bust.
When a player performs worse than expected, hindsight says they are not worth the pick. Same difference here. Anthony Bennett was not deserving of going first overall based on how he performed in the NBA.
He wasn't supposed to be the best player in the draft, i get it. But the fact remains he was supposed to be top 10. Usually top 10s last a bit longer and perform a hair better. So even if he wasnt expected to be great, he was expected to be anywhere from good to decent.
No matter how i look at it, it wasn't a good pick. Did the Cavs just make a poor choice? Yes, and that's in essence what a bust is.

Your main arguement is that he was not such a big bust because the draft was weak so he was propelled to the first pick while he didn't deserve it. This arguement makes sense if we are talking about if the Cavaliers made the biggest mistake of all the teams who had a first draft pick ever. But the question here is diferent. We ask if he had the worst career compared to every other first draft pick ever. we don't care if he deserved to be a first draft pick or not in this case. We only compare his performance next to every other first draft pick. And he had the worst career compared to every other first draft pick from the 80s until now. so the verdict is that he still is the biggest bust ever.

the argument he made is bad. anthony bennett is the biggest bust ever. to be the 1st pick and not even to become a reliable bench player, not even a 12th man, to be cut from a team after your 2nd season, and to be below par in foreign leagues too. and we can say that the draft was weak, which it was, but there were many others in the draft who at least had serviceable careers. if bennett wasn't the first pick he is probably cut before or during his 1st season and maybe never makes it back to the league. how is that not a bust. we are not even saying a star career is a baseline, just merely being able to hang with the competition, even as the 12th, 13th or even 15th man on the roster.

Everyone knew that Jordan would be a generational talent and Bowie had serious health concerns. Also, everyone knew the '84 class was star studded. You couldn't have picked worse than Portland if you tried. The '13 class only produced 2 hall of famers and five impact players that never sniffed an all-star game. Only one lottery pick went on to do anything noteworthy.

Out of the options he had the more boom or bust potential, hence why they took him. Unfortunately for him and his career, LeBron came back changing the front court needs. They needed someone to compliment lebron's skills, not compete for resources. So he gets traded to the worst player development team in the league. I find the comments on this video to be absolutely mind-numbing. The majority are ignoring that you stated many times throughout that Anthony Bennett is a bust, and seemingly somehow missed that repetitious statement so entirely, that they've left comments saying he is in fact what you said he was lol. The other part of the majority is out here DEMANDING through what seems like almost gritted teeth seething that he is by far the biggest of all time. Though one of these people I understand their point, and will concede to it, too, I agree with your assessment in the video on it. And it is abundantly clear how recency bias is the dominant factor in their insistence that he's such a horrifically massive bust.
Hell, all draft history its blatantly clear how domineering recency bias is in the juries' opinion of "biggest bust of all time". Before Anthony, it was Greg Oden. Then Darko. Before that you had a load more, with the most dominant one to me being Sam Bowie. The most stand out one to me, even if not a top 10, was Shawn Bradley. And most of them are of course, Centers, which is hilariously ironic, given today's game all but murdering the traditional big man. As soon as the next guy comes in, gets drafted high, especially with that top 3 pick, they immediately become "the biggest bust of all time" to the court of public opinion. I mean, Darko literally only recently managed to finally escape the constant "biggest bust of all time" narrative being thrown in his face. And another two "biggest bust of all time" guys I just thought of - Adam Morrison and Kwame Brown! Literally each and every single one was the "biggest bust of all time" until the next one came along. I think that itself is more than enough to sink the public opinion's ship into the ocean.

Before Bennett came, Kwame Brown and Olowokandi were considered the biggest bust. They played in the NBA for 12 and 8 seasons respectively. They're NBA calibre players. Anthony Bennett is not good enough to play in the NBA.

I get what you’re saying & yes, he didn’t have any expectations & wasn’t even suppose to be a 1st pick which the Cavs set him up for failure, but he’s still a bust at the end of the day. He had no business even playing in the NBA because he was really that bad of a player

This is so true. When you take context into consideration, Darko Milicic at #2 is a much bigger bust considering who was taken right after him (Melo, Bosh, Wade) but this would be unfair to Darko since he was drafted into a situation where anyone else would've suffered the same fate. Coach Larry Brown had a championship contender and there was no way he would've wasted it developing a rookie. The biggest bust would have to be Sam Bowie. He already had an injury riddled college career yet the Blazers still picked him ahead of Michael Jordan, even though everyone knew Jordan was the best player in the draft. The Rockets going with Olajuwon at #1 was understandable given the premium attached to centers at the time, but Bowie at #2 was absolutely dumb. I don't care about how the fit MJ would have with Drexler would have been, you either make it work or trade one of them. Whatever you get back would've been better than Bowie.
