I love this scene because Wardaddy was caught trying to live like a human, trying to eat dinner in a civilized way. The others are so animalistic and crude they don't understand what it means for him to get away. When the soldiers start harassing him about there past and how they should deserve a lot more respect then the new recruit. Wardaddy tells them to shut up by throwing his knife on the table. He's also saying "How dare you try to remind me of the horrors of war and what we have done. Can't you see I'm trying to be a dignified human even for a little bit?!" it could also be assumed that he's trying to be nice to Norman and trying to help him not turn animalistic like the others have, having little respect for anything. I could be wrong but that's my take from this Scene, I love it a lot.
makes so much sense tbh, i never thought of it like that
That wasn't a knife he threw down on the table. It was his revolver.
Well yeah but from others pov you would take it bad , I mean imagine you went through hell and put your life into wardaddy hands cause he could manage the crew greatly , you fought hard and saw terrible things but when 2 chicks pops up you're being left on the side , not even an egg as decent meal , and with the 'rookie' that haven't seen the worst, kinda hurts
Even tho it's totally understandable that Don tries to disconnect from the war , and I think he's doing it to remind hows life is supposed to be , that's why he chill and let Norman do his stuff with the girl , sadly they got caught and that out of war moment just vanished
If u get blamed by Bible you fuck'd up somewhere a lil ^^
You're not wrong. There's a lot of layers to the scene & it's very intense with emotions. So, your analysis is very valid in this case. It's true Wardaddy doesn't want Norman to become some vile monster like his friends because he's a young guy & typically the older bros will move heaven & earth for their younger comrades to survive beyond themselves. He wants Norman to be able to re-enter society on return home, too. When you've been through a lot & sacrficed or just shed away your innocence naturally, you have a greater appreciation for it & a sense of duty to protect the innocence of others. A lot of WW2 guys were pretty good at re-entering society, but there were a lot with troubles, too.
Kind of reminds me of Eugene Sledge story where a Doc reminds him he is still a human being when he almost cuts out gold teeth with his knife and he should not endulg in intrusive thoughts and actions.
I really like Shia LaBeouf's character in this movie... a deeply religious man with an enigmatic personality
He's not religious he's just a proper man off God and an example off what a saved Christian is.
@@JLOCC23424What is a saved christian in this context?

Micheal Pena's acting was spot on
It’s not funny it’s sad. He was clearly traumatized.
@maxfrankow1238 no need to get your panties in a bunch, that part of the scene was intended to be lighthearted
BTW, Santa Claus is not real 😏
@@YinYangSeperation That definitely wasn't the tone.
@@brownsey1 it is if you look at it from the director's pov
Damn so intense and brilliantly acted by all, even the German girls. One of my favorite scenes ever. So many different personalities and overtones
Well said👏
Bro got quiet when he stood up and physically said bet and slammed that knife on the table.
Twas his gun
He was nipping the insubordination in the bud. I got the feeling that's all that was gonna work with Shane's character.
It was a revolver if you look closely.
This is an extremely powerful scene. You can literally perceive and interpret it, in any way that you want. Especially when the the house gets bombed and the girls die...
To me, it's that the three men are so far gone and are animals compared to the men they used to be. And wardaddy is trying to feel civilized which is why he brought Newman, he isn't corrupted from the war yet. So when he tells them to shut the fuck up, slams the knife and spits the egg, that's him reminding them that he's more of an animal than any of them
I wish I could post a GIf of Seinfeld yelling “Newman!”
Saying “donkey” instead of “danke” lmaoo
Do you guys actually fully understand this scene? The drunk soldiers were about to rape the girls "what's going to happen is going to happen", because they felt like they're deserving it after all the horrors they've been through. That it wouldn't make any difference and they're good to go. Wardaddy was holding them back crossing the line of truly becoming animals.
Thanks
Women have nothing to do with the wars of men. They deserve nothing bad at all.
I thought Grady was referring to the atrocities of war in general instead of wanting to have sex with the girl. He says "What happened, happened", meaning that War Daddy acting "civilized" doesn't change the fact that they are fucked up people due to all of the terrible things they experienced, and will experience in the future
He could have been talking about wanting to rape but what I'm saying makes sense since Gordo was just talking about the hell they all went through
The type of scene where time in the real world completely stops. Pure movie magic.
when gordo tells the story about the horses, i can’t help but empathize. i think that they’re all feeling less-than compared to norman in that very scene. after everything they’ve been through together without norman. “after all we been through without him, you can’t even invite us up for an egg?” and i can completely understand. that feeling sucks. we’ve all been there. but you can tell wardaddy is just trying to take norman “under his wing” in a sense. he knows norman’s having a tough time. after all, he was trained to type i’m not sure how many words per minute. not to kill. idk. just spitballing here. every time i watch the movie, i can’t help but feel a little bit upset for the rest of the crew, but understanding at the same time as far as wardaddy and norman go.
pretty solid point. first time watching it I just thought they were being aholes, which they are, but I would also be hurt if I was them.
This is top tier acting
my favorite scene spitting the god damn egg to grady
Jon played the asshole role way too perfect
They cut so much from the movie. The reason why war daddy was close to Norman was because Norman reminded him a lot of his brother who war daddy accidentally killed, along with his wife, while drunk driving. This scene is more emotional than presented; Top's war family feels suddenly abandoned because Top maybe just wanted a minute to feel like he had his original family back. And maybe Top himself didn't realize every warrior has two families, those you raise, and those you raise hell with, which is why the rest of his crew felt slighted.
I often argue that it would’ve been a far more superior movie with the deleted scenes, barring the tactical stuff which is admittedly not good
And wardaddy brothers name was norman
These poor men.
The hurt and loss they suffered from Omaha to Germany.
Pitt understands this. The reason for his grudging tolerance. Until he can no longer stomach it.
Young Americans pulled from their farms and small towns and sent across the World to suffer and perhaps die.
No wonder they were often not generous and kind to German civilians
The horror war. The old. The young. Civilians. Destroyed. The rape of girls and women to impart dominance and revenge.
And what is revenge ? An effort to assuage hurt and deep emotional pain
Watch the beach scene in Saving Private Ryan.
Can you imagine the emotional of our young men who survived that ?
I can't.

Best scene! "We linked up with the Brits and the Canadians and we all f***cked them up". My grandfather loved this movie before he passed away. He was a pilot for Canadian forces in ww2. Worked for both US and Canadian forces. He passed away in the same year this movie came out in 2014
Was it a reference to the Battle of Falaise Pocket?

Hope he did not cause any distress to any women.
Love the characters. Brad Pitt is the true though guy. He does not speak much but could most probably beat anyone in the room and his anger comes unexpected, and when it happens everyone becomes quiet.
Both Brad and Shia snap there Role Good. The way that Brad Pitt throw that Knife on the Table Dam Best way to Shut up Such a Great Actor he is. And Shia Labeouf His Eyes Crying is really Touching.
Both girls are so beautiful, I don't know how bad life could be to make them suffer, no matter how life would turn out to be I hope I'll never become a mad dog.
You do not become a bad person, you born bad.
still my fave scene
I like how after he slams his gun, he stares them down until they look away or look down. Like animals that know who the alpha is.
Wardaddy gave the women 6 chicken eggs to cook, 2 tall cups (and 2 pack of cigarettes as an exchange for sex)... what they got at the dining table is 6 fried eggs, few slices of bacon, few shots of alcohol, a few cups of tea and 3 more people barging in the room... resulting in Gordon becomes the only one without food or drinks and the other didn't even acknowledged that about him
Gordo is the one didn’t get any egg.
Which is probably why he told that story :(
8:09 “You shouldn’t”
Love this scene so much..
What I love about this scene is that Gordo is describing the Falaise Gap/Pocket.
Boyd "Bible" - literally the only member who wasn't a jackass in the group, aside from Norman
Wardaddy: Why do you ruin my meal?
He wasn’t misbehaving but you could tell he was still pissed off at Don for not including him, so he stood in solidarity with Gordo and Grady.
Poor Gordo didn't get any egg

It’s an incredible feat for a pair of actors to outshine Brad Pitt in an acting performance, but that’s exactly what Le Beouf and Bernthal did in this film, and I think that’s what Brad Pitt intended as Director.

@@booradley3400 the biggest for me is the end, without spoiling anything it just went too Hollywood action movie, like the last fight was way too much/too unrealistic. people need to watch the deleted scenes of this scene and more. give more context to why some characters act certain way and gives them more an identity than just being soldiers. they give background to each character by sharing stories and makes them look vulnerable- feel believable and alive. go watch the deleted scenes, its like 40minutes long.

If you've seen wind river, you'd know this scene is very similar to the mobile home scene, and you know what it could've become. Funny thing is, jon bernthal was in the opposite role there. Great actor, really makes us hate him here.
ON THA WAY!
I never noticed this but at 5:14 Bernthal’s character seems to get visibly uncomfortable at the mention of horses, knowing what storys about to be told. Like he deep down doesnt want to revisit those moments.
I remember I had to save your mother my daughter she knows I'm positive

😮😮😮
So why did Don only take the new kid there and not his tank crew?
Because they're crazy
I think someone said because don wanted a reprieve from the war and to just feel normal again for a while. Norman was invited because he was still pure and Don may have seen himself before the war robbed him of much of his civility, and he knew the other three were far too rough for a civilized meal. And they acted out because they felt hurt they weren't invited even after all they had been through together before Norman. But they basically proved his point, they were unfit to be there as the war had caused them to lose much of their humanity. And when Don had finally had enough he threw the weapon on the table like James bowie, meaning that if they wanted to challenge him they had better pick up the weapon or shut the hell up. it was incredibly tense and uncomfortable as if the audience was in Norman's shoes. I also liked how the other two men looked up when pena started his story knowing full damn well it would really rub Don the wrong way by bringing up those experiences.
Cause he just wanted a moment of peace and civilized behavior and they came in and just sh-- all over it.
@@cmendr011Why did the story made Don frustrated? I know it's about Red but I don't understand the full story.
@@zhenli541 because he was trying to enjoy a meal. And don loved horses. So pena told the story about a horrific experience they had where they had to endure killing horses and deal with the smell of rotting corpses for days and miles as they traveled in country. It caused him to lose his appetite.

I just don’t understand why horses were brought up and Don got upset
It's the opening scene mate . We don't get to see the full scene but obviously traumatic experience for all that was in fury tank
Because Gordo is mad that he doesn't get any eggs or was invited to the thing despite being far more experienced with the hell of war than Norman. So he tells the story to remind him what he dealt with. Don gets upset because Grady suggests that trying to do "civilized things" in the middle of the war doesn't change their lack of humanity
Dom fucked up big time here. His crew were 100% justified in being mad at him for not inviting them, who had been with Dom longer than Norman, and had done way more messed up things than Norman. Idk why people are sympathizing with Dom, he made a giant mistake here by not inviting the rest of his crew. Before this we see him kick Grady, be racist to Gordo, make fun of Bible's faith, and force Norman to kill someone, but now he just wants to eat a "civilized dinner" and the rest of his crew is somehow "uncivilized"? Dom is the craziest one out of the whole bunch but since he's played by a good-looking actor, his actions are forgiven it seems.
GTFO, I'm glad Gordo told that horse story, to remind Dom who was with him doing the atrocities of the war.
