Whitney, Celine and Mariah are commonly referred to as “The Vocal Trinity.” All three ladies are known for the emotive beauty, power and range of their voices.
The way Mariah dominated the 90s with angelic voice and superhuman vocal prowess is out of this world
Top 3 vocalist are easily Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston & Celine Dion. They are called the Vocal Trinity for a reason 😍
Freddie Mercury ❣❣
Came here to say it too, by far the best male voice of all time
@@robertlarosejr.1535 The Love of my life, that's why Queen is my niche 😉
Same. Throwing Freddie's name into the ring.
Number 1 voice dor me, just iconic. RIP 🙏
Just the diverse quality and mad differences of genre in 90s music is insane. You get a little bit of everything.
Yeah man, I see what you mean. I think it's because the early 90s were still heavily influenced by the 80s while the mid to late 90s is where the pop stuff slowly started to take over. Because of this I think that hits from the beginning and end of the 90s may have had the greatest contrast in sound/style of any other decade.
Best Male Vocalist for me.. Freddie Mercury. Such a mesmerizing, stupendous entertainer
I agree - my top two male vocalists have to be Freddie and Roy Orbison.
Females is more difficult, but someone mentioned Karen Carpenter earlier, and I'd have to agree she'd be in the running. I'm not a great fan of the scream/warble type singers who belt it out, or warble a dozen notes when just a couple will do, so for me that rules out the likes of Whitney, Celine and Mariah. Someone like Aretha Franklin was better - she had a power voice but controlled it better IMO.
@@coldwhite4240 thats all preference then cuz by technicality and vocal ability artists like morisette amon, mariah carey, celine dion, dimash, gabriel henrique, barbra streisand, etc. all had more developed voices and more vocal ability, but as i said, if were talking preference of tone and style, then it’s different.
For me it's Freddie Mercury and Steve Perry from Journey
@@kamilklimowicz6160me too
Honestly if you had to pick one male singer to be the top three it is definitely Freddie Mercury hands down the best power
steve perry also!
Came to say the same Anthony 😊
Dimash Kudaibergen, hands down.
@@DMWolFGurL Dimash is quite impressive and talented, yes, but Freddie had something that no other male singer to the world at large’s awareness had. A lot of something. Tremendous talent. If I truly thought Dimash was in the top three or even top ten, then I’d say so, but I don’t think he is. He is very good within his genre? field? lane? but not as…complete as Freddie was.
For comparison to try to alleviate any thoughts of “old, crusty” bias, I used to have Whitney, Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand as my top three vocalists (actually two as I put Celine and Barbara as equals), but then I was introduced to Floor Jansen of Nightwish. Hoooly crap. Yeah, I now have a third and Id have to say she’s at the top because she’s complete enough to sing it all. She’s a master, much like Freddie.
And here’s a little reality for anyone saying this guy or gal is the best: these are vocalists the masses are aware of. There are many others out there who have not been brought to our attention.
@@DMWolFGurL is that a joke or a real person?
If you are looking for a male voice of all time I would for with Freddie Mercury 🤩 I do agree 100% on Celine and Whitney. I graduated High School in 97 so I remembered all those songs from growing up. So far I am 100 out of this list and the 80s list.
as someone born in 1980, I grew up through the 90s, I consider the golden age of music, we had nothing but huge hits one after an other.
I'm mad he never considered Mariah Carey she rounds out the vocal trinity that is Whitney Mariah and Celine they are the vocal trinity
Female Singers: Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion. Male Singers: Luther Vandross, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder.
Mariah Carey was the biggest artist of the 90s, she was the best selling artist of the 90s, yes even above MJ, Janet, Celine, Whitney, and any band/boy band. She was awarded as artist of the millennium, and of the decade, had the song of the decade by Billboard, (One Sweet Day), had the most hits off the decade, at LEAST 1 #1 hit for every year of the 90s, and her longest one was One Sweet Day spending 16 weeks at #1. As of today she has accumulated the most #1 hits out of EVERY solo artist with 19 #1 hits only being beaten by The Beatles with 20 #1 hits. Not to mention shes probably the best female voice and best voice in general of all time in her prime, based on technique and vocal ability, she could do things with her voice no one else could do, and by FAR the hardest discography to sing vocally, from songs like “Emotions”, “Fly like a bird”, “Vision of love”, “Outside”, “Lead the Way”, “Forever”, etc., and STILL she made most of them even harder live. Yet people still wanna discredit her😂.
Mariah Carey is the biggest artist in 90s but the best selling artist in 90s is Celine Dion. From 1996 till 1999 alone Celine Dion sold 90+ million album. Both of them dominated 90s worldwide.
@@itssteven4184 oh i mean debatable cuz i was saying that cuz in many of the late 90s interviews and outlets ppl were calling mariah the best selling female artist of the decade.
I was teenager throughout all of the 90’s so this is definitely my era. I never liked one style of music over another, but as the decade went on my tastes changed from straight up pop music at the start to Britpop in the middle and then dance and party music by end. Agree with Whitney Houston and Celina Dion as two of the best singers of all time and I personally would have either Mariah Carey or Freddie Mercury as the third one
Ya, the 90s is when music started to become available to the masses on a large scale. CDs, mixtapes, TV and the new tech of internet sharing.
I live in the Midwest, usually the last part of the USA to get new music. Lol
1. Whitney Houston
2. Celine Dion
3. Barbra Streisand
I literally got goosebumps when Whitney belted out "I Will Always Love You"!!! She truly had an amazing voice. Another one gone too soon...RIP awesome lady.❤
Freddie Mercury has to be up there.
He was barely part of the 90s
Oh i just figured out why you said it. Right. hes up there
@@teib757
Good 😁😁😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
He was not big in the 90s. Neither was Queen.
they crushed it with Scream.... Janet and Michael
It's crazy to think a lot of these songs are more than 20-30 years old. Some big stars but also many one hit wonders I forgot about. The 80s are still my favourite.
Hard to believe Mariah Carey is 54. She was a teenager when she started topping the charts in the 80s.
@@americansmark mariah's career started in 1990 not in the 80's
"The Oneders", Captain Geich and the Shrimp Shack Shooters"...😂
The 90s was the best decade!!!! I'd stay in 98 forever if I could!!!!
I always loved Barbara Streisand's voice! It always gave me chills!! Tom Jones has a great iconic voice too!!
my pick would be cher
I would add Sir Tom Jones, Steve Perry, George Michael, and Freddie Mercury to that list. 😊
I was a radio announcer all through the 90’s and that brought back so many memories! There were only 2 songs I didn’t recognize. My favorite male singer is George Michael.
I was born in 1984. So, most of my childhood was spent in the 90s. Everybody listened to everything. It didn't matter what genre. Everybody was tuned into everything. When we got into 2000s, the music industry went flat. It has never recovered. The 90s were the last great decade in music. I don't think that will change anytime soon.
always loved this era of Janet Jackson... Freddy Mercury ....
Chester Bennington is always in my top 3.
Such a shame he left us so soon. :(
Apart from the obvious greats like Freddy Mercury and Whitney Houston, I am still blown away by the voice of the chap from the Righteous Brothers singing the live version of 'Unchained Melody'. His vocal range is phenomenal.
Blue eyed soul!
@@Carlos559Caps This is on the same level too. I'd forgotten all about this track. 😎
He's called Bobbie Hatfield
With Crowded House, Enya, Prefab Sprout, Belinda Carlisle, The Divine Comedy, Suede, Erasure, The Lightning Seeds, Manic Street Preachers, The Pet Shop Boys and XTC my 90's was something else
I graduated high school in 1996 so this list is right in my wheelhouse. I remember seeing so many of these videos on MTV.
What's interesting to me is how many of these songs were the main song from a movie soundtrack. You can see when different movies were released by this list.
Karen Carpenter, Patsy Cline, Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston may be my favorite voices of all time.
Ross Sallee , great choices . I have them all on my list , except Patsy Cline but I did think of her and LeAnn Rimes . Too powerful voices with a wide range. Surely worth the mention.
Karen Carpenter, along with Mariah and Celine
Karen and Linda Ronstadt are two of my top female vocalists.
Im waiting for the Rkelly reaction all the time. It never dissapoints
I think the best singers is really subjective and also depends on the genre you gravitate toward.
My top males
Freddie Mercury
Ronnie James Dio (Rainbow/Black Sabbath/Dio)
Geoff Tate (Queensryche)
Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
Sebastian Bach (Skid Row)
Female
Ann Wilson (Heart)
Pat Benetar
Whitney Houston
Celine Dion (love her voice, hate her music)
Annie Lennox (Eurythmics and solo)
The 90s were my teenage years but it still surprised me that I recognized all but 5 of these
I remember when ice ice baby came out. When you heard it on the radio you didn't know which song was gonna play. Is it Vanilla ice or Queen and David Bowie???
That happened to me with "Can't Touch This". Excited to hear "Superfreak" but then disappointed!
Summer or fall of 1990 a friend got in my car, which had a killer stereo, and immediately handed me a CD saying, "This is going to be the next big hit!"
Disc loads, song begins and
I said, "That's Queen & Bowie, Under Pressure."
He said, "No. That's Vanilla Ice."
I said, "That may be but he stole the tune from Queen."
When "Ice, Ice Baby" ended I introduced him to Queen and in so doing made him a fan.
Fun fact, after losing the court case Brian May advised Vanilla Ice to buy the rights to "Under Pressure" so he wouldn't have to pay royalties to Queen for the rest of his life. He wisely followed that advice.
Watching videos like this gets expensive, because I suddenly start buying a ton of songs that I forgot I loved back in the day, lol!
Kids growing up in the 90s are unique. The era before/during the start of internet, the era after riding bikes with your friends and going home when street lights came on
*Kabir* I've been subscribed and watching everything for well over a year.! Here's my opinion.... I can do 5, not 3, lol.... and I'll give my top 5 of women AND men. I'm a former touring musician and it's hard to do this cause it's like choosing Strawberry ice cream over Chocolate.! Their both excellent, but it's a choice. If any of these are unfamiliar to you do yourself a favor and look em up! Cheers from Idaho, USA....So here's *MY 5 X 2*
WOMEN:
1) Barbara Streisand
2) Celine Dion
3) Nina Simone
4) Mariah Carey
5) Whitney Houston
( Bonus ) -» Aretha Franklin
MEN:
1) Freddie Mercury
2) Sam Cooke
3) Frank Sinatra
4) Marvin Gaye
5) Stevie Wonder
( Bonus ) -» Otis Redding
Love you added Nina Simone!
Good list!
Good list! It is damned tough leaving Steve Perry outta that Men’s 5 though haha
@@coyotelong4349 I hear ya.! Again, it's the Strawberry vs Chocolate ice cream theory.! Both are excellent, just a matter of taste.! Leaving Robert Plant off my OWN list hurt.!
Yesss!! Nina Simone , Sam Cook and Ottis Redding also for a bonus power house voice Etta James.
VOCAL TRINITY OF ALL TIME 🎤👑
WHITNEY HOUSTON 🔥
MARIAH CAREY 🌪️
CELINE DION 🌊
My top 5 best female voices are: Karen Carpenter, LeAnn Rimes, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey.
I would add Linda Ronstadt…
Good top of female voices, I would add to Tony Braxton too, she is an incredible and Iconic singer of The 90s.
@@corinnepmorrison1854 If I did a top ten list sure I would add Linda, and Martina McBride, and a few others.
25 30 yrs ag is like yesterday to this old lady, my kids loved all this music as did I.
It’s so awesome seeing you just going all out with your sing alongs to the songs. The 90s had such a diverse amount of genres that were represented on this list. I bet you would have a blast doing karaoke to these songs.
As an American, I had never heard the phrase "pissing the night away" until that song played on the radio. Took me a while to get used to it.
And R Kelly BROKE MY HEART!!! I love love love his music
Depending on a contract, some performers do not get royalties as the record company may own the rights to that song. Also royalties may not be enough to live on. Like I said earlier, it depends on the contract.
For those of you who know I love Lucy, you’d be surprised that neither Lucille Ball or Desi Arnaz got any royalties from the reruns of the show or merchandising. Back then in the 50s, asking for royalties was not common. Desi and Lucy did not think anyone would want to watch their show again after it was originally aired. Back then syndication didn’t exist and neither did reruns. So they did not get any royalties because they didn’t think it was necessary. But one of the writers Jess Oppenheim asked for royalties and he made a lot of money whie Desi and Lucy got absolutely nothing from the show being on the air since it went off in the late 50s. However, Desi and Lucy owned the Desilu studios which produced several very successful TV shows during that time
Top three singers all time for me have to be MJ, Whitney, and Freddie Mercury. Dont ask for an order….narrowing it down to three was hard enough.
Kabir I'm a 90s babies too March of 92, I would love to travel back to 90s to party and visit my younger self and also see my mother again.
Disclaimer: I'm limited in my music knowledge didn't really start listening to a lot of artists until 6 or 7 years ago; the rest from the past I only know in passing (ads, movies etc).
Best male vocalists imo:
1. Steve Perry
2. Freddie Mercury
3. Elvis Presley
honorable mention: michael jackson (elvis and michael are pretty close they're both either 3 or 4)
Female vocalists:
1. Karen Carpenter
2. Whitney Houston
3. Celine Dion
I'm not as familiar with a lot of female singers so many of them from the 90s onward are popular only for pop music or 1 song.
1. Karen Carpenter - most pitch-perfect, effortless vocalist of all time!
2. Whitney Houston - effortless, pitch-perfect
3. Celine Dion - effortless
I assess by the effort the singer seems to make to get the sound. For me, these three are in a class by themselves. All the other legendary female vocalists? You can see/hear the effort they make to achieve the sound.
*EXCELLENT CALL* on Karen Carpenter.! Maybe we do the top 25, lol..... it's impossible.!
My Top 5 Voices:
Nat King Cole, Lady Gaga, Otis Redding, Freddy Mercury, Whitney Houston
I was a teen in the early 90s. Sooo many of these songs bring a nostalgic smile to my face, transports me back to that time, even if for only a few moments. However, a certain genre is missing from this list: country - not necessarily all country, but Garth Brooks. He was fricking HUGE in the 90s and crossed into mainstream top lists. He was so big he inadvertently created a movement for non country fans to become fans, if only for a few years. Country was POPULAR in the late 80s and early-to-mid 90s and it mostly had to do with Garth. His music opened doors and awareness for us to the many, very talented country music artists out there. So, yeah, Garth, at a minimum, should be an honorable mention.
For the “but what about ________ and _______ and _______ and…”. Yes, I’m aware of many of the bigger country names at that time, but they rarely, if at all, had their music placed on mainstream top lists until Garth.
You are not wrong.... there's only one country singer I've seen live and that was Garth Brooks in the 90s. I went to get tickets.... he had three shows, Wed, Fri, and Sat. All three shows sold out in 8 minutes. Most people got disappointed and left. I stuck around because I was off for the day anyway and 15 minutes later, they announced that he added a 4th show on Thursday. I was 3rd in line, and by the time I got in, the 4th show was almost sold out. I managed to get 2 tickets and I was the last one in that store to get tickets. So yes.... I am a proud member of the AHBA.
P.S. I am a proud 80s and 90s headbanger, but there was no denying Garth Brooks' talent
I would agree. I was kind of shocked he wasn't here at all. But who knows how this was detrmined, so yeah....
@@jhiieri7812dude! You are so lucky! I live in Canada and he doesn't come up here too much, so when he does, tickets go so fast.
@@TakersSoulGirl22 indeed! Garth Brooks was one of a handful of country artists that became mainstream and I enjoyed all his songs. I don't listen to country much, but you can bet I own his greatest hits CD. Even though one of my besties wouldn't allow me to play it because his girl dumped him and every song reminded him of her...
All-time best vocalist in modern music?
I'd put it even at Chris Cornell and Freddie Mercury; their power, range, and emotion is beyond stunning song after song.
I feel like you can separate anyone from anything. Appreciate the art, not the person
The nostalgia is real with this one 😅
that video ended on one of the best music videos ever made... the music was energizing and the vid just made you want to dance
The 80s and 90s had the best party/club songs🎵
brother, If you created a link to the FULL song of each... people would CUT TF out of it. (me being one of them). I love your work!
8:27 best male voice of all time George Michael undoubtfully. I never heard anyone as beautiful as his voice
Best Female Vocalist of All Time:
Aretha
Whitney
Celine
Mariah
And I would add:
X-Tina Ag
Pink
Adele
Best Male:
Freddie Mercury
Michael Jackson
Elvis
Luciano Pavarotti
But there’s so many in each category you could choose from, really.
Top female vocalists for me, Judy Garland, Edith Piaf, Aretha Franklin and Whitney. Celine, Christina, Mariah and others have the range, but for purity of sound, I'm going more classic.
My favorite male singer is Steve Perry. In my opinion his voice is incredible. You knew most of those songs!
My top 3 favorite vocal female artist are Withney Houston, Mariah Carey and Adele
Freedie Mercury definitely Top 3
Hey Kabir! First, i watch all your vids and truly love your channel. Now i so enjoyed this one and just had to tell ya you are a breath of fresh air we all need now and then. Thank you!!!

Patti Labelle
Christina Aguilera
Karen Carpenter
Dionne Warwick
Gladys Knight
Male:
Freddie Mercury
Michael Jackson
Luther Vandross
George Michael

My top 5.
1. Ofra Haza (Israel)
2. Freddie Mercury
3. Austin Brown (Home Free)…
Joakim Borden (Sabaton)
Ignition (Remix) is a certified banger.
Proud to say that I bumped into Right Said Fred a few years ago at Heathrow Airport, and I have the picture to prove it. Nicest guys you could ever hope to meet.
And oh yessss, time traveling, please do! Although I would go back to the 80s when I was a teenager
12:30 Separate the music from the artist? Absolutely. The music, the art, and their ability to channel and mold it, transcends the character, the ego, the individual.
Top three voices -
Female:
1. Barbara Streisand
2. Idina Menzel
3. Celine Deon
Male:
1. Geoff Tate (Queensryche)
2. Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
3. Michael Sweet (Stryper)
Stunned on the list of how many of these are movie theme songs.
I'm so happy to finally hear someone else recognize how fantastic Celine Dion's voice is :D Unfortunately for me, she mostly makes a type of music I don't really listen to, but she most definitely has one of THE most fantastic and powerful voices I've ever heard. She'd be in my top 3 best singers along with Michael Jackson and uh... I'd have to make it a top 5. Whitney Houston probably as well and Beyoncé on a purely technical standpoint.
If you don't prefer her power ballad song, then maybe you should listen to her A New Day Has Come album. Most of the song in this album are upbeat and catchy.
Seconded.
Love your reactions 👍
Kabir is searching for a top 3 all time voice while the screen is frozen on the one who goes by the nickname "the voice" and has more hits on this list than anyone else.
what a super fun video! def remembered some bangers from the past i put on playlists right away
Kabir's got those VOCALS!
That was great. Thanks, Kabir!
Thanks I enjoy these, I want to go back to the 70’s
90's more diverse of music and music videos were so much fun/competeive.
Kabir you are a late 90s baby like me. And our childhood music is 2000
Dam this video took me back. The 90's was wild. i miss these times
Thanks for these memories
I'm a Gen X'er, at almost EVERY sporting event Gary Glitters "Rock'n Roll Part 2" is played. And We ALL KNOW what he did! I guess good music has little to do with how good the person singing it is.
Steve Perry. George Michael. Amazing voices
It is so awesome to me that you know all the songs 😊
This made me go create a new 90s playlist!
I miss the 90s!
Female top 3:
Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and hmmmm Christina Aguilera
Though honourable mentions to Mariah Carey, Amanda Marshall, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and Adele
Male top 3:
Freddie Mercury, Sebastian Bach/Axl Rose (back in their hay day their voices were undeniable) and as a Canadian I have to include the late Gord Downie the lead singer of The Tragically Hip
Honourable mentions to Elvis, Tom Jones, Steven Tyler and Michael Buble
I forgot an honourable mention to Pink. like for me Pink and Christina are almost tied. both of their voices are incredible. But then I forgot Patsy Cline too.
Female Groups:
TLC, Destiney's Child and probably the Supremes
Male groups:
The Beatles, Boyz II Men and probably the Bee Gees.
I had forgotten how many great songs were released in the '90s. Definitely agree that the song clips were just too brief.
Dude, I like this series. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I listen to a lot of my faves regularly, but I forgot about a few of them and tbh, so.e I didn't remember at all, but they made it to number one at some point so... idk what I was doing "that" month of "that" year. But I can just imagine, LOL
Omg I loved the 90s, it was so much fun. thanks for this one.
Luther Vandross is definitely in my top 3 voices of all time
Bring back the days of the soft hip hop in my opinion.. boyz2men, Keith sweat, R. Kelly before he did that thing.. That’s why I listen to the weekend as a 43 yr old, He helps bring some of that old style back… LMAO at mark 12:33 you asked the same questions I do
Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and Mariah Carey
The 90s was my childhood. All this music. I would definitely go back in time to revisit the 90s at my current age.
Whitney, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, & Etta James.
Adele is up there.
Celine is definitely underrated
Karen Carpenter, Whitney, and Eva Cassidy. The men: Freddie Mercury, Paul Rodgers, and Meatloaf.
Mariah's hits kept popping up but you never once considered her in your list of greatest voices of all time.
The 70's were the best
Yes indeed. Aside from the Grunge movement, the 90's put an end to true musicians and just gave us voices.
Celine Dion has an amazing voice that can compete with Whitney Houston any day of the week
My top 3 is definitely 1 Aretha Franklin 2 Whitney and 3 Celine.
1:56 this song is still to this day on my phone/iPad / pc , anywhere I listen to music.
You need to do a 70's video! My fav!! Lol!
I lived through the 90s and I don't know half of these songs. No Jane's Addiction, Smashing Pumpkins, Pantera, Concrete Blonde, Pixies, NIN, 2Pac, anything from Death Row, and a hundred other bands and other musical acts that defined the decade for me. Kabir said in an earlier video that the 1960s hit list was more ballad type of music, then genres started to diversify in the 70s and 80s. I'd add that somewhere around 1992, the popularity of different genres got so fragmented that the #1 song each month started trending back toward a sort of homogeneity, except this time with love anthems starting to dominate rather than ballads. Nirvana showed up on the list one time in 1991 and if not for that you wouldn't even know grunge existed, not to mention all the amazing techno and EDM that came out in the latter half of the decade that you would only ever hear at a rave.
