Legend says Carron is now interred in a chaos dreadnought and randomly emerges from the Warp to crush Rhinos while shouting the phrase "METHUL BAWKSES" over and over.
No. In order to punish him for his defeat, the daemon of the Basilica of Torment placed him in a dreadnought sarcophagus. He then had the Hereteks of the Dark Mechanicum attach said sarcophagus to the controls of an unarmed rhino, where Carron is spending the next 1000 years riding around and crying.
You forgot to mention Chaos rhinos which on occasion may be possessed by daemons who if upset might eat their passengers... and they’re always upset

It's amazing how many 7ft tall powered-armor clad soldiers they can fit into a tank the size of a Ford Mondeo. 40K non-scale-ness is weird.
In second edition, the vehicle card had the transport capacity of a Rhino as;
'10 Space Marines in Power armour, or 5 marines in Terminator Armour, or 1 Dreadnaught'
Is the dreadnought lying down or something??

Stupid question but does anyone in the Imperium actually know what a rhinocerous is? Or do they just assume it's an old word for armored badass when it really just means fat unicorn?
Like most things it might as well have been extinct by the time of the Age of Strife or well before that as humanity led a technological heaven Imperials call the "Dark Age of Technology".
But who knows? Maybe some ostentatious noble/Rogue Trader/Inquisitor has the last one in their collection? Or we could have an alien fauna that looks similar enough to bear the "Rhino" name?
Probably the name rhino has been spreaded through the galaxy, fitting similar creatures in other worlds. Altough the imperium does like to use names from Terra hsitory, even from before space age.

Well said thank you I play 40K and I have an entire company of Dark Angels along with the rhinos to out fit them with.
Ironic seeing a picture of pre-heresy World Eaters with a bolter on a Rhino considering they mostly just run into battle now.
The Rhinos are the powerhouse tank and the carrier of the mighty SMs.

1:20 pre heresy world eaters don't get to see them very often.
These might also be Heresy-era ones.
They didn't originally repaint the armour red, it was rust and gore from slain enemies, sinee World Eaters started seeing the removal of enemy's blood from their gear as an insult.

One Land Raider of Crimson Fists was so angry, that when Orcs attacked their homeworld and killed its crew it kept on fighting. Eventually, it was immobalised and without ammo, so Orcs decided to lootit... and it decided to kill them with doors and hatches. Land Raider was lost, but CF managed to recover its Machine Spirit, so yes, angery vehicles are a thing in 40k.

You guys planning on doing powered army r at any point? I mean it certainly has an abundance of sci-fi franchises where it appears in, Halo, Continuum, The Expanse, Iron Man, Animatrix (Second renaissance, part two) and so on just to name a few. To clarify, I’m referring to specifically powered suits that or maybe not much bigger than 10 feet tall, not the large ones like the loader from aliens or the suits in matrix revolutions.

I own six of them for my Black Templars Army. Besides them I have two Razorbacks and five Predators; three for anti-infantry and two anti-vehicle. Comes in very handy to take out infantry based armies in the game.

The Rhino performs a vital role in the Space Marines' battle tactics. For reasons that are known only to the Astartes, Space Marines never carry any spare magazines for their bolters. (No 40k space marine miniature I've ever seen features any spare magazine pouches whatsoever. Correct me if I'm wrong). After even the briefest of engagements, marines must return to their Rhino to retrieve spare magazines. This may explain why so many veteran marines are armed with close combat weapons, they needed them to stay alive after they ran out of ammunition.

Considering how ridiculously huge Space Marines are in full armour... I kind of have to press D for Doubt when it comes to the size of a Rhino and it's alleged ability to carry a full squad of Battle-Brothers.
I mean, unless it uses some kind of Dark Age space-warping tech to be bigger on the inside... Which, fair, would fit right in with some of the shenanigans DAoT Humanity got up to.
Well apart from Carron, any loyalist or traitor Space Marine can swear that the Rhino is their best friend.
Unless they are devoured by one... Not a pleasent experience that...
I am confused by what you are getting at.
Well, the staff that gets possesed by deamons tends to reflect the very chaotic nature of this entities - sometimes Rhino may act normally, sometimes like a drunk driver and sometimes it kills and eats the souls of the people it is supposed to transport.
Well yeah, but when that happens, it's the daemon's fault. The Rhino is still a friend, but daemons are nobody's friend.

Humble RazorBack ? In many versions (3-5 is what I played most) my Doctrine was Everyone Rides Everyone Fights .. 4-6 Tac Squad in RazorBack "Stronos"
with a W-Whiff (if you played it you will get the joke ) MAYBE a Rhino to carry a Dev-Squad . For me the M113 (Rhino) just was not up to the task of the M113A1 FSV (Razorback) or an even better comparison might be CV-90

I love the Rhino design, but they do seem a little small to transport Space Marines. How many are supposed to fit inside? With the bulky armor design with huge shoulder pads, one can not exactly sit close together.

The mako is imo a horrifically designed tank, like why does a tank have wheels and while it being light for it's role is a good this it's also bad a hit from a MBT main gun would probably flip that thing right over. But honestly it should of been desginated as an APC. It's real life counter part is an APC, but that's just my 2 cents.
I never viewed the mako as a tank. Like you said, it's more of an APC with a heavy cannon and machine gun.
A Mako is an APC. And like all APCs, it is based on. It is equipped with a Tank Destroyer Heavy Gun. Though it has weak armor compared to the Main Battle Tank. It can be outfitted with secondary armor fittings that increase the APC's survivability but it cannot take much. I mean in modern times. A Russian (or Chinese knockoff) of an RPG Rocket can punch through the haul of an APC with ease. And the RPG Rocket design is...what? 60 years old? Able to punch through modern composite armor. Though now a lot of APCs you see in hot combat zones have basically a cage around it. All for the use of defeating the RPG Rocket and nothing more.
So really what it boils down to. I highly freaking down a Mako in a one-on-one fight with anything in the 40K universe would survive. I mean a freaking group of Orks could take one out with a pure DAKKA! Though if a WAAAGH! happens...best just run for your freaking lives. At least the Mako has speed on its side. Could outrun just about anything in the 40K universe. Well, for a short time.....And the Warp happens.
