      Given that Chaos Dreadnoughts in general are mostly mad or at least half-mad (even the Warmonger, probably one of the "saner" CDs, wasn't entirely there anymore) the biggest difference seems to be that the Hellbrute's pilot has mostly melded with the Dreadnought chassis.
      Is there a fundamental tactical difference between a Chaos Dreadnought and a Hellbrute?
      Do they have significantly different roles in combat (the Imperium has different Dreadnoughts, like the Ironclad (close combat) or the Hellfire (fire support) that have different tactical roles, but are still both Dreadnoughts, so I'm asking about more fundamantal differences that that)? Or are Hellbrutes just the most common version of Chaos Dreadnoughts?

    I remember in one Warhammer 40K themed D&D campaign, I created a custom chapter of Space Marines which was comprised of nothing but Apothecaries, a sort of emergency medical team for the most grievously wounded units. However, we were constantly underfunded because the Administratum had cut funding thousands of years ago because, from their perspective:
    "Every Space Marine they save is really just a Dreadnought that isn't being made"

    • @Schnittertm1
      @Schnittertm1 Před 5 lety +26

      @Rising Horizon Gaming It would make sense if the AdMech didn't take so long to produce Dreadnought shells in great numbers. Even the Blood Angels, one of the chapters with a fairly ubiquitous use of Dreadnoughts have only around 35 Dreadnoughts available to their chapter (at least if we go by 7th Ed. Codex).
      Also, there is the other fact that not everyone is encased in a Dreadnought, only those that have proven their skills in battle are saved in such a way. If the battle-brother died due to stupidity or was unproven it is unlikely that they will get a Dreadnought of their own. They will rather just extract the geneseed and hope the next recipient of it will fare better.

    • @DamnedUsernameThing
      @DamnedUsernameThing Před 5 lety +34

      @@Schnittertm1 In addition, only the most exceptionally mentally fortified Space Marines can become a Dreadnought. The existence of a Dreadnought is absolutely miserable; There's a reason Dreadnoughts tend to develop mental disorders. Losing all ability to sense slowly hacks away at the pilot's mind over the millennia, and the only respite from this hellish state is when the battle is won and the Dreadnought is put back to sleep in their stasis pods. The same cannot be said for their unfortunate Chaos counterparts, who are usually just chained to a wall in a dark room somewhere to prevent them from rampaging and killing everyone, and forgotten until the next battle where they are unleashed in all their berserk and suicidal fury.
      Malcharion, a Night Lords Captain who had fought during the Great Crusade, was placed within a Dreadnought against his will when he slew a White Scars Captain and lost both his eyes, his tongue, and all of his limbs save for a single arm during the fight. When he was successfully awakened in the 41st Millennium by a Space Marine named Talos, 10,000 years later (and after attempts to awaken him previously only resulted in him broadcasting his constant, tortured screaming through the vox due to his refusal to be interred within a dreadnought originally), he explains how much he _despises_ being a Dreadnought. He mentions that when he swings the power fist mounted on his Dreadnought's arm, sometimes the broken, rotting lump of meat that is his real arm swings too and hits the side of the sarcophagus, reminding him of the wretched existence he's been confined to.

    Three other patterns of Dreadnought exist in 40K, produced by ForgeWorld.
    The Deredeo, a mobile support and anti air platform, based on the Contemptor pattern's design.
    The Leviathan, an ancient, hulking siege weapon that burns through pilots like batteries.
    And the Telemon, an elite design reserved exclusively for the Adeptus Custodes.
    Chapters of Space Marines even vary who amongst their brothers become this ancient warriors.
    The Blood Angels inter some of their Librarians into the Dreadnought sarcophagus, giving their brothers a durable psychic in the field.
    The Space Wolves employ ancients who have succumbed to the curse of the Wulfen, making them savage and feral creatures of war.
    There is even a variation of the Mark IV Dreadnought, called the Ironclad, a siege unit in the same vein as the Leviathan, but much safer to use for its pilot.
    Chaplians and even Chapter Masters can choose to be intombed into the sarcophagus of a Dreadnought, for only in death, does duty end.

      well, the eldar have constructs piloted by souls of the dead (wraithknight, wraithguard), and rubric marines are just powered armour animated by the ghost of its former wearer. there's also the slightly less disturbing imperial knight with AI that imprints itself unto the pilot's mind thus changing their personality.

      They're not quite undead. They're on the verge of death before they are saved and placed in what is essentially an armored intensive care unit built into the chasis of a walking tank. But they might as well be dead, since their body is completely destroyed and they will die if they are exposed to the outside.

      2. Who the FUCK is Belisarius Cawl?!? He had the access to Primarch genes and somehow managed to enhance the complicated biology of the Space Marines. He also made a new pattern of power armor with multiple variants of it. Only if that was everything. He also created HOWER TANKS, NEW WEAPONRY AND UPGRADED MOST OF THE MACHINERY USED BY THE IMPERIUM!!!!!!!!! HOW?!?!?!?!?

    1. Will you be doing the third part of Worlds Of Tantalus on the Merician Freehold talking about their planets?
    2. Could you make a mini-series on the events of the Frontier War and do it in the style of Battle Analysis
    3. Could you make several videos about the different ships used by the nations of Tantalus? Like the Huntress-class or the Arashi-Sakara dreadnought or anything like that?
    4. Would the Templin Institue be making videos on the nations of the Sojourn once it is released?
