Not gonna lie, I thought John Collins was just being misused over the past few seasons in Atlanta. He got the nickname John the Baptist by being the guy that dunked on your favorite player, he was most effective in the dunker spot and recently Atlanta had been pushing him outward a lot more, and although he could hit it a couple of times from 3 that was never his primary source of production. But now even though being given that role back from Utah it just really seems like he's gotten worse with time. Seriously who could have saw this coming.

It was clear to me that Capela being used as the roll man would hamper his development but not this badly. Sometimes I read critics on him and other fans saying he was a hype and stuff along those lines. What I saw from him is top quality basketball. He's creative, fast, intelligent and finds solutions to get the ball in there. For me personally he is one of the most exciting players I've seen in a long time along with Ja Morant. It's a shame to see such talent being put to waste for which ever reason.

Harden was a defensive liability but he had no excuse being 6ft5. This is a really good point. When the refs allow you to foul like the Heat do at FTX arena (especially in the post season), it's really hard for Trae to go out there and carry the offense on his own. For most of last season (really until the playoffs) it looked like they were right to do add another ball-handler/play-maker because DJ was our best player for large stretches last season.

Dejounte move was so horrible that I'm genuinely baffled by FO's sometimes. Everyone but them foresaw the issue of Murray being useless off ball and him & Trae not being compatible. If I was Hawks, I'd try get Klay as the main supplement to Trae and let Murray go. Trae Young in my opinion is the most underrated player in the league. Running a heliocentric offence is so difficult yet he does it effortlessly, he is an offence on his own, the hardest quality in basketball imo.

One of them should be able to occasionally create for themselves, a rim running 5, and then a guy off the bench who can be a 6th man to run the 2nd unit. Trae is a great offensive weapon, but you need the right pieces around him.

It's going to be hard as hell to build a championship level team around Trae Young. It's not a knock on his talent level. He's awesome. It's just a reality of how hard the NBA is. BUT if the Hawks hope to build a championship level team around Trae the only way to get there is with him as the only engine of the offense. Multiple on ball creators is not the way. Which is why I never understood the Murray move. You gotta lean in to Trae just running it all. The team around him has to be full of play finishers on offense, athletes with size on defense.

We Tried That But Look What Happened In 2022. Trae Got Destroyed By Miami Because There Wasn't Another Ball Handler. All They Had To Do Was Throw Bodies At Trae, Get Ball Out Of His Hands, And They Comfortably Won. We Need A Genuine Two Way Ball Handler THAT CAN PLAY WITHOUT THE BALL. Murray Does A Good Job Of Providing Some Offense Without Trae But His Defense Hasn't Been What We Hoped For And He Hasn't Been Doing Anything Useful Without The Ball.

Trae struggling in the Heat series made the Hawks desperate for a second ball handler since the Heat completely trapped Trae and stagnated the Hawks entire offense. Fortunately for the Spurs, Dejounte had a good season and was named as a filler All-star and they were able to sell insanely high on him. Now after the dissapointing past few seasons the Hawks are in a very concerning situation. They don't have their draft capital to improve, they are stuck with Murray on a newly signed extension and if they sell him it would be for pennies on the dollar.
I see Hawks fans not even entertain the idea of trading Trae Young, and that's completely understandable. He's the franchise guy. However, there's very little the Hawks can do to improve their team without any assets and the road they are currently on, it's looking like it will get very ugly very fast and they will be forced to sell on Young with no more leeway. Rebuilding sucks but it feels even worse when you realize that you should've done it years ago before it got too late.

Landry may have traded assets for Dejounte Murray, but it was Travis Schlenk who traded up for De'Andre Hunter and gave John Collins $125 million for dunking on people, but never once did he try to get Trae an efficient backcourt mate, unless you count Bogi. -no one is talking about trae because he's highly inefficient. he's only shooting for 30ppg because he's jacking up 3s at a 10 per game pace. when you shoot that much from downtown, you really should be better then a 1point per shot shooter, else your much better off taking 2s. and he's barely better then a 1 point per shot shooter from deep.

    • @MoogleEmpMog
      @MoogleEmpMog Před 4 měsíci

An eFG of 52% IS very, very close to one point per shot: 1.04pps. :P De'Aaron Fox and Jamal Murray are at 54%/1.08, Luka and Steph are at 57%/1.14, Shai is at 58%/1.16 (and also a strong defender), Haliburton is at a frankly ridiculous-for-a-guard 59%/1.18.
"No one" is talking about Trae because he's an offense-shifted player and has a gargantuan usage rate, but only produces average NBA offense. He's better than his mid eFG suggests, because he gets to the line at volume and shoots well there, which results in solid enough True Shooting percentage. But even then, his efficiency is at the level you'd want from a second option for a good team, perhaps as low as third option for a great team.
His assist to turnover ratio looks a little better (it's in the middle of the listed guards, drastically behind Haliburton's absurd highs, well behind Murray and Shai, slightly ahead of Luka and Fox, well ahead of Steph who isn't a lead ballhandler) but again, it's nothing special, just an average AtT rate with both good and bad numbers inflated by high usage. Solid enough, but unexciting if you look at anything beyond raw box scores.
Meanwhile, he's a worse defender than anyone else on that list except *maybe* Haliburton.

@@MoogleEmpMog Holy shit how many of you idiots is going to comethrough making the same braindead argument.
Seriously? Comparing Trae's situation to Steph/Shai and Jamal's is NUTS. ABSOLUTELY NUTS. Haliburton is a complete outlier but even still, the pacers entire offense is about 10percent more effective than any other in the league (as per their offrat)
His gargantuan usage rate is WHY his EFG is so (relatively) bad, if youre the only fking threat from outside the paint on your entire team bar ONE other guy, youre gonna have pressure on you 24/7. You put steph curry on that hawks team and i GUARANTEE you steph aint shooting 57 percent efg because hes not getting clean looks that the kerr offense generates for him, because there's no other threats on the hawks, and no kerr!
Okay - im not reading anymore - i seriously cannot be assed having to make the same point over and over again yet no one here wants to address it. I’m upset this doesn’t dive into him being a complete liability on defense. He’s a part of his own problem as well. Trae Young will always be an exciting player with great counting stats; but he’s also extremely inefficient most nights from the field. I’ve said this since they got him, the Hawks will always just be fun to watch. That is it. There is no big time winning coming to this franchise. Even the best players who we may say “plays no defense” at some point begin to get better on that side of the ball. I think he’s one of the truest points in the league, but because he’s a complete liability on the defensive side of the ball, it’ll always just be first round exits but a ton of highlights during the season. This is the one thing no one wants to talk about with Trae Young. People will immediately run to the front office; when all they’ve done is gravitate towards their star and actually get him help (grabbing Murray, Saddiq Bey, etc.), they’ve drafted well (Johnson, Hunter, etc.), good FA signings, etc. they’re just not a winner. Some teams just won’t ever see the promise land and they’re one of them. He’s not a floor raiser, it’s as simple as that.

The idea that Trae Young is some transcendent star is absurd. Man is just less efficient James Harden, I have gone back and check stats each year and nothing changes. His 3pt% is around average (has only hit 38% once in 21/22 and even that was only 3% above league average), his effective field goal % is ALWAYS below league average (and that’s a stat that takes into account everything EXCEPT FREE THROWS) then with True Shooting (the stat that does take FT into account he is at or slightly above league average (and even that is not great as his last 2 seasons he has been lower than league average). Now what this says is that Trae is INCREDIBLY reliant on free throws, it is also telling that when you look at league adjusted metrics he isn’t adding much offensive value outside of the free throws (negative field goals as a matter of fact outside of the 21/22 season) and that’s not even getting into how he is a defensive liability and more recently how his overall BPM (box plus minus and win shares dropped through the floor even though there was minimal if any change to the roster meaning he wasn’t all of sudden playing with worse players that would negatively impact his box plus minus.

    • @hardwood_yt
      @hardwood_yt  Před 4 měsíci

Never said he was a transcendent superstar. But I would argue most people try to discredit him from even being a star or top 15 player in this league.
He will never be on the level of the Luka’s of the world.
Can he win in the NBA are the promotion and a secondary 1B alongside him? I believe he can. That 1B is just going to have to be VERY good.
      But most players have that.
      Ant has KAT and Rudy.

Maybe Knicks get Murray for Evan Fournier, Miles McBride and a couple of first round picks.

What the Murray was averaging a near triple double with the spurs!?!.

This trade has never made sense since the day it happened the Primary ball handler Hass to be Trae Young not Dejounte Murray. It’s two point guards it doesn’t work not only does it not work. The capital of gave up for Dejounte Murray is crazy. I don’t know why they just didn’t go out and try to get a wing that could score and shoot three pointers. That’s what they needed.

Trae needs a star bigman and shooters/defenders around him. I also don’t think you win a chip with him as your best player

Hear me out Draymond for Capela - kuminga takes the next step in his career and Draymond is the defensive piece the hawks need

Maybe Trae and Murray don’t play well together, but have you seen the last two games? Especially the game with no Trae against the heat.

Yes I made this video around 2 weeks ago. Murray is a talented player, but he doesn’t fit on this hawks team.
Hopefully a contender can give the hawks what he’s worth for them!

@@hardwood_yt As a hawks fan, I’m kind of hoping they move Trae and keep Murray. They’re an all around better defensive team with Murray starting at the point.

I wish the Bucks took Tray instead of Dame. It would have been good to see if he can go anywhere, pretty much ignored at the hawks.

Trae n Murray dont mesh well together. You see it in the play and numbers. When they are both on the court, the offense is less capable then when one is on the floor and the other is on the bench
