I think the false bottom is there just to hide the mechanism of the buttons. The metal bar looked suspicious still-

I love the fact everyone is talking about the fact he did not finish the puzzle, but totally overlooking the fact he missed the arrows indicating the position the levers had to be in open the box.

The creator of this puzzle must have been a harry potter fan because "I open at the close" is a direct line from Harry Potter and the deathly Hallows. But I think it could also mean that the box opens at the close of the puzzle as in at the end when the puzzle is solved.
I’m thinking “I open at the close” meant that you could open something more once you got it back to the beginning state! And Benno’s website says “It also has an extra secret, but you’ll have to find that out yourself...” come on Chris!

Chris, you have to do a follow up video since you didn’t finish it. I’m positive that I’m the first to make you aware that Mr. Puzzle finished the puzzle. It’s not about who wins or losses. You and Mr. Puzzle completely look at puzzles differently. You are a champ man! And I believe that you have drastically helped Mr. Puzzle with his intros to his videos. Make a video on how you missed the finish and people will have a lot more respect for ya because of your humility my man!

I think there is a little more to this. The I open on the close suggests a couple of more steps to go.
It seems there's a small hole under the metal pole, maybe it can be removed once the box is reset, I.e. Closed, and inserted into the hole?
