Wargames Atlantic- Lizardmen, for all your tabletop needs!

  • Yet another inevitable review. It was bound to happen.
Wargames Atlantic recently put out a lizardmen kit. As with all Wargames Atlantic kits, there's all sorts of fun options to be had! A variety of head choices, weapon options to cover a variety of engagements and time periods, and a few extra bits to round things out.
Head choices are all great- the gas masked Death Fields versions were quite the surprise as well, and I'm sure I'll be putting a variety of these heads on bodies that don't need them.
The fantasy weapons are a bit lacking in variety, as there's only the spears and a sword. This is relatively easy to fix at least. With the variety of guns at least they can be used for all sorts of other conversion fodder beyond just the lizards.
The tails are a bit of a miss. They don't line up very nicely with the body and they're a bit limited. Plus a few extras would have been nice for conversion fodder.
Speaking of conversion fodder, I'm going to have to make some Roman lizards at some point. Maybe with machine guns too. It's going to have to happen. First spiders with hats, then lizard legions...
You can start building your lizards of the republic by ordering straight from Wargames Atlantic, as they're often running specials and flash sales on their sites making it quite a lucrative way to acquire even more plastic goodies!

@@namechange4137 With Modiphius publishing the new edition it's left relative obscurity far behind. It's already getting almost as much YT coverage as Stargrave is and most folks still can't even buy the book in their FLGS.

  • @thekinginyellowmessiahofha6308

Gun wise you have a matchlock or flintlock jezzal (a long musket) which is perfect for black powder/pirate fantasy, a martini Henry breach loader rifle (from the Victorian era) and an AK 47. Good mix!

Late to the party here, but I was thinking of purchasing these so I wanted to watch a review. The conversions are great. The tricked-out cyber-lizardman could have only gotten better if you would have given him the gas mask head and worked in some tubes connecting to the back. I plan on modding these for Stargrave, This Is Not A Test, and Space Weirdos.

Been looking at this kit for a while, I like their look, but I would have liked to see a bit more medieval/tribal weapon options since I would use them for a early medieval fantasy setting. Love your kitbashing shenanigans, it's the main reason I come to your channel, I'm very excited to see how the Lizard legion comes out!

If you aren't a stickler for exactness you could use these as stand-ins for the four-armed saurian natives in the H. Beam Piper novel "Uller Uprising". It's basically a sci-fi version of the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny. Use the AK weapons for the loyal company troops and all the rest for the rebelling natives.

    • @richmcgee434
      @richmcgee434 Před 3 lety +3

Looks like you get enough arms to stick four on each body if you used a bit of putty to blend in the join points and build the medial "pseudo-pelvis" the extra set attach to. Still not quite right (too few digits, and ironically too much clothing, and did they even have tails?) but close enough for gaming I'd think.
Interesting book, albeit not my favorite of Piper's work. Nice to see the Project Gutenberg folks have preserved it, given the decaying state of traditional publishing these days.

So, do you have a set of Ghost Archipelago snake-men handy? Curious to see how compatible the parts are between the two kits. Same goes for the Stargrave kits - those heads look like they'd work fine and having some arms with alien hands would be nice.

Lion Tower Minis is making some 3d printable lion people in the near future.
SciFi is going to be a bit harder- there's a few animal heads on the various Stargrave sprues. I know there's been a few sets of metal/ resin heads of animal folks for doing Albedo- style wargaming.

Unfortunately the kit is pretty much unusable out of the box if you are looking to make classic fantasy lizardmen. No bows, few hand weapons, no shields. Great for sci fi not so much for fantasy.
