- When opening a new document in Inkscape, you may have noticed that it always uses the same page layout, even if you change those settings in the Document Properties menu. In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to make those changes permanent so that Inkscape always launches with your preferences in place.

Over a decade later and I still learn something new from every video that you post. Be blessed!!!
nick created many useful videos for inkscape users
In less than 60 seconds, I was able to do this thanks to you. Thanks for such simple, straightforward instructions!
This is an underrated yet super useful feature!
Now inkscape is more powerful.
I’ve been searching for this off and on for the past month, thanks for this!
many user don't know about this.
Nick is the Go-To Guy for anything Inkscape.
Nick's tutorials are "crapless".
When I click on a tutorial on a particular subject, I don't want to hear about the host's dog getting sick under the desk, or about the wind blowing leaves in the host's front yard.
I want to hear about the subject of the tutorial, period.
That's where Nick is a master at the art of "crapless" tutorials.
I appreciate that. You must not have seen any of my older videos though 😅
@@LogosByNick Been watching your videos since 2016.
If you rambled in the earlier videos, I must not have been annoyed by it.
Most valuable minute and forty-seven seconds I have spent in a while.
CheerZ!
Excellent tip, Nick! Thanks for sharing it.
Great timing! I was looking for this.
I was looking for this video about 15 minutes prior to your uploading it lol. Glad the one from v1.0 was still up.
your videos are very valuable to me nick thanks thanks thanks.
That's a great tip, I would never though of adding frequent assets to default template. Thanks!
Cool, that's so useful!
That saves a lot of time ! 💯
Thank you so much 🙂🙂🙂
Thx again!
always new interesting and useful infos
Hi Nick, that's a nice info, thank you!
but I wonder how do I delete/replace/edit the template that I've created before?
Of course I can create a new template with different name & properties, but it still feels inconvenient to make many templates just because I can't edit/replace the template...
Is there a way to also preserve the zoom level of the canvas?
Thanks for this tutorial. Now you are inspiring me to start learning. So which version would you suggest to install on a Sonoma 14, in Macbook Air 1, Nick?
The latest version (1.3) runs really well on Mac
Thanks for the tip Nick.
I just have a question on something totally different. How do you activate the feature that allows corner nodes for objects to automatically snap together?
@blessingnemadziva8956 top right corner of the document you'll want to click on the button icon, then click the arrow to the right of that and select the triangle pointing left. From the drop down menu you'll want to click on the corners checkbox.
@@BFett-Human Thank you very much. I think mine had been disabled when I updated.
Thanks, Nick. As I work with cad files, can the canvas be set 0, 0 where it's at the bottom left instead of top left?
I believe that can be done in the Preferences menu under the Interface settings
I remember trying this a couple of years ago but it didn't work as I expected it to, I wonder if they improved on this feature since? Now it works exactly as I want to. Maybe I was just dumber back then. ;) Anyway, is there an option to launch without the tab view fully expanded? I always start out every session with dragging the tab view slightly to the right as to not having it take up so much space and even if it's a small thing it adds up, you know?
Good tactic. But I cant seem to force the zoom level I want.
👍👍
How do I get rid of the document completely
What is the easiest way to remove the canvas?
This results (on macos at least) in an additional empty document opening whenever I try to directly open a PDF file with inkscape, which is annoying
Perhaps a subject for another short tips video, but one that I cannot find the answer to - how to have Inkscape remember the last folder you saved a document too. Each time I open Inkscape it appears to want to save the new document to a seemingly random folder.
That's a good one. Not sure if it's possible though.
How do you get back to the... default default?
Just go back to Doc Properties, choose the A4 template then save that as the default template.
I love Inkscape but why does it run so poor on MacOS? Some functions, especially the interactive transformation tool do not work properly.
Are you using the latest version? 1.3 runs great on my M1. The previous versions not so much.
@@LogosByNick Just installed 1.3, also M1. I will try again.
