To pass by altering your course to starboard, you will blow one short blast, which is one second. Then alter your course to stbd and pass him. To pass him by altering to port, you can blow two short blasts. Now this person probably won’t know what that is, so he will probably start cussing at you for honking at him so be aware of that.
