Corgi restoration Caravan Airborne Ford Thames nr 420. Manufacture of glass and blinds.

Ford Times Airborne Carawan Corgi was produced in the years 1962-1966. The model was very popular among children, because Meetoy has refined this Ford very much. In addition to the two-tone paint job, it had opening rear doors and a generously equipped interior. The previous owner painted it silver with a lot of paint. It caused deep pits in the pane and it was impossible to save the pane. I used the old pane as a form for making a new PET pane. I made the missing blinds from disposable plastic knives in white. I made the tires of black-dyed molding polyurethane. I also made the box according to the original. A beige Thames van was the only transportation for my aunt, uncle, and family when they first moved into a remote rural property in central British Columbia. (British vehicles were surprisingly quite common here in the 50s and 60s!) It was eventually supplanted by more practical farm vehicles, but ran for a good many years.
This brings back memories of summers on the farm! 😄

Fantastic build/restoration.
I am very impressed with all the mold making and pouring you do to create replacement parts.
And, noticing the production number that Corgi released this "Hippie Camper Van" being 420 made me laugh.
I don't know if 420 has the same meaning outside the USA, but over here is is code for Marijuana/Marijuana usage or purchasing.
It was/is a law enforcement radio code. But the pot smoking community adopted it and joyfully keeps it. 😄
Many pot smokers in the USA live in, or travel around in, camper vans. 😉
Wonderful restoration.
I also enjoy your restorations in which you add a few extra things to make it your own. Like the Ghostbusters car. And adding working headlights to an old car that only had working tail lights.

When making the boxes, add about 1/8” bleed all around, in matching colours. Then when you cut, you eliminate the risk of any odd white edges in the final product. This is how they did the boxes back then, and it’s how most printed packaging is still done today! 🙂👍

The glass was terrible but the van was in pretty good shape overall - at least it had the doors and hinges! I needed to get a door for mine and it took over an hour to fettle it to fit - BEFORE painting! I have seen a few restorations with roof alterations but I kept mine as it was made, only changing interior, wheels and the colour split, apart from a new two-tone colour scheme. Terrific model for its time and the first Corgi to get a non- vacuum formed interior!

Very nice restoration Paul. The use of plastic knives for the louvres is using great imagination and putting the silicon mould in the oven for faster curing time brilliant, I'll have to try that with the product I use to make tyres.
