  • Join Alex in the shop of renowned wood turner Barbara Dill as he upgrades her Delta 14"bandsaw and brings it some new life. Watch as Alex replaces the tires on her saw and replaces her worn cool blocks with new state of the art ball bearing roller guides from Carter Products. Alex also adds a Carter Product's Quick Release that easily sets and releases blade tension without twisting and turning the original wheel. You too can upgrade your saw with these items in a matter of a couple hours.
    Last but not least, Alex shows you how easy it is to set up this Delta saw for resaw. You don't want to miss any of the tips and techniques used throughout this video.

    This is the perfect example of these type of power tools can be around for a long time, and with improvements like these, you do not have to buy a whole new saw. Its great that Carter sells these lines of product to do this. That is probably stronger than the new ones, and by that I mean stiffer, so it won’t flex. Nice job

    Excellent detail Alex, I like how you showed how disassemble is not nearly as scary as it might seem and the upgrades will make a world of difference ... well done!

    Great video. I’ve upgraded my Delta Platinum 14” bandsaw with new Carter tires, upper and lower guides, Cobra Coil and Quick Release. It runs like a new saw. I love the convenience of the Quick Release. I’ve also started the up grade process on my newer Shopfox 14” bandsaw. I’ve installed a
    Riser block, ant the upper and lower guides. Since it was newer the tires and tension Spring were in good shape. I’ve got the Quick Release that was made for a Jet saw, but haven’t gotten brave enough to put it on the Shopfox. I’ve be told by several people that it will work, however, one fellow club member said he had problems with his. Wish they still had the Woodworkers’ shows in my area. I always went toe Carter booth just to watch your presentations Alex. They were always informative and fun, but usually costly (I’ve got a lot of Carter products because of you 😁). Thank for all the info you’ve shared with others. Hope all goes great with you. Cheers, Tom

    Thank you for posting this video. I just bought one of these saws and am having some issues with it I need to repair. These will be nice upgrades when I'm confident I can get the bearings that need to be replaced. Thanks.

    5:12 Good idea to brush that sawdust away. The first step should be to blow all that away and start with a clean machine. Good video though. I’ll bet Barbara is thrilled to have the upgrade.

    Great work Alex. I'm a bit skeptical. Because the Deltla come with easy adjustment thumb screws.However I'm thinking about doing the Carter upgrade

    This is really nice to give one of the most creative turners an awesome gift. Thanks for all you do for woodworkers, your video taught me how to setup my bandsaw and it's incredibly accurate now.
    Do you have any guides available for the craftsman 12" saw that looks like a Delta? Not the weird boxy tilting head version.

    Will adding a riser block to the head assembly cause a misalignment of the two wheels. I like too have more height but don’t want to throw out any alignment of the wheels. Not sure if I can even get the riser block from Delta. My saw was purchased in early 2000s and it came with the Carter accessories you show. Excellent saw.

    • @bandsawlife2660
      @bandsawlife2660  Před 2 lety +1

      The risers are still available on eBay. They have pins to line them up so it’s very difficult to get them out of alignment

    Thank you Alex! Excellent tutorial! I've got the Carter guides on order of my early 90s Delta 14 inch. Will add the tension quick release next. I'm sure you asked a lot about riser kits for the Delta. Do you think the eBay kit is the best option for this? I have a shop full of Delta machinery. I thought I would always be able to get parts and support -- I was really wrong about that! Too bad Carter doesn't make a riser kit for Delta. Thanks again for all of your excellent band saw video tutorials!

    I been trying to find out how I can contact Mr. Snodgrass. I’m hoping he will read the comment or somebody may have a suggestion and apologize for this comment being a little bit long in advance. I’ve not had good luck dealing with Carter customer service they just keep refer me to Mr. Snodgrass videos. I watch them but I still have a question. I am a little bit lost. I have this same bandsaw it’s a 28-203 Delta bandsaw. I have it basically stock, never been touched. I put a 1/4”inch blade on. What I mainly use this for is for circle cutting which I’ve made a jig for works great and I’m starting to do for lack of a better term bandsaw magic. Were you take a square piece of stock cut a design in it tape it flip it cut it again and then you roll them all out glue up and you have like a table leg somewhat design. While doing these after cutting about a dozen, my blade bound and snapped. I am wondering if I need to change the set up and the blade size. again, I have watched all the videos but I’m still somewhat lost. After watching this video I’m wondering if I should continue with the guides and put a quarter inch blade on again? the circumference of curves was about 2 inch radius or just a little larger. I’m wondering if I should go 3/16 of an inch possibly get rid of the guides and just use the support guide from Carter. I hope someone can guide me or give me some info, or if Mr. Snodgrass himself sees this what would your suggestion be you’re saying that if she kept a quarter inch blade on her saw with the guides is fine but what if I want to make like reindeer can I do that with a quarter inch blade with guides or change the set up. I completely lost on what to do now I think just too much info and I can’t make a solid decision. Thank you.

    Alex, the pulley on the bandsaw wheel (not the motor) works its way off its shaft; the little key that stabilizes the pulley works its way loose, and the pulley comes off. Do I just need a new key? Where would I get one, if you think this is the answer. Thank you.

    I just heard you say something about the Platinum Package - where the Delta comes with Carter guides. I have a Powermatic PWBS-14cs .. I was told those were Carter Guides that that one came with. Is that so? I bought the conversion kit for it, anyway - have not put it on yet. But - that kit also fits the RIDGID 14" BS that I have (14002). So - Should I put the kit on the powermatic and the old powermatic stuff on the Ridgid? or ? I mean - if the Powermatic already has the carter bearings on it - I'm not gaining much, right? So - which one do I put it on?

    • @bandsawlife2660
      @bandsawlife2660  Před 2 lety +1

      Sorry but the Powermatic comes with Carter like guides, the same guides do fit the rigid. I would install the conversion kit on the Powermatic and a stabilizer on the rigid.

    Alex, Hello. I reached out to Carter to get the conversation kit for my bandsaw and I was given two options. I have the G0555XH 14” extreme series resaw bandsaw from Grizzly. I was told this bandsaw has two kits so I was hoping you could do a video to help me out. Jet 14” Pro sku Jet14D-pro or Grizzly 14” SKU UNIV-GRI14. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
