Mariko in shogun is one of the most iconic performance of all time. Anna Sawai has done an amazing and wonderful work on her role. For me, Mariko is the MVP of the show so far. Shogun episode 9 - Crimson Sky is one of the greatest episode in television history. What an astonishing show! She totally deserves an Emmy!
The redemption arc of Mariko has one of the best I've ever watched. Incredible character and one of my favorite. I've tried to cover the story of Mariko in this video and gave my best for this. I hope that you will enjoy and love this video.
Thank you for watching!

For some reason, this line from Shogun reminded me of Game of Thrones -- when Ned Stark said, "The only time a man can be brave, is when he is afraid." What a surprising & terrific show Shogun has been.
Mariko, the bravest of them all. Anna played this part to perfection. This brings me to tears. 🥺❤️

No offense. Even they were played by American or non- Japanese actors, still performed excellent job. It has been while to have such a great historical tv show. (In my opinion , cannot speak for everyone of course)
There were plenty of non Japanese Americans in there, I even looked it up myself, a lot of them never ever posted in English until they were promo this show right here.
@@takayukiuenaka-ol3de I understand your point, and did some research as I see majority of cast are Japanese. Isn’t or am I wrong?
@@faterosario7872 Hiroyuki Sanada focused on the way Japanese people move their eyes and use pauses.
His thoughts are what makes this drama so profound.
She has to be nominated for an Emmy for this incredible performance.
True!
Nominate? She must win
I think she's gonna win an Emmy.
She deserves it!
Mariko is a person who’s so respected by everyone…except for her own husband and son who see her as an embarrassment.
Tadaoki Hosokawa, the husband of Garasha Hosokawa, who was the model for Mariko, is the model for Buntaro.
Mariko's son is also a real person.
In historical fact, after Garasha died in an explosion, it was Garasha's husband who picked up her bones and held mass for her as a Christian every year on the anniversary of her death, and after her husband stopped holding mass, it was Garasha's son who tried to continue the mass.
I'm sure both Buntaro and his son will realize Mariko's greatness after she passes away😢
It's not that they didn't respect and knew of her greatness... In it this knowledge that leads them to be over protective and questioned her every act... Imagine living with the smartest person (eg., peot, swordswoman) and all the person wants is to DIE... whiles you have personal experience of the great things this person can achieve....
How would you feel mate???
In real history, Mariko's inspired role, Hosokawa Garcia, and his husband family Hosokawa klan released prime minister on 1993.
@@user-dfgcxxsdfd4rtCan I ask a question? So if Mariko is descended from Akechi Mitsuhide, He assassinates Oda Nobunaga, The queen's father early on in the series.Does that make her son the grandson of Oda Nobunaga? Why are they making Oda seem like a tyrant? Why is Mitsuhide a hero?
Oda nobunag is having a lot pro and con for what he had achieved. He was like Napoleon. I n the first war he experienced, he got over Imagawa who had more than 20times number of soldiers. So, he was very realistic and did not like Buddahnism as he see them hindering his drastic sosial change. Hence, he had killed great numbers of Buddahlist while Mitsuhide saw it with regret while he was following him.

THE WHOLE CREW DESERVES AWARDS FOR THIS INCREDIBLE MOVIE BEST OF THE YEAR!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
True!
The actual model for Toda Mariko, played by Anna Sawai, was Hosokawa Galasha, but her bombing was, unsurprisingly, a true story!
beautiful. i love you mariko-sama. well edited video. anna sawai deserves every acting award. she is mesmerizing and talented. her character has emotionally impacted me the most out of any other TV show. what an emotional rollercoaster.
Thank you very much!
Episode 9 ending hit me real hard
If Anna is not nominated for an Emmy Award I will never watch the Emmy Award show again. I think I fell in love with Anna and Mariko a little bit and I’m still upset that she died. I also think that the costume designers should win the Emmy Award too.
She totally deserves the award!
I can't watch the show without her😢
She was my favourite
She got the most screen time
Just 1 episode is left and there is no season 2
@@jool7793 Her death felt like it hit harder because the show tricks you into thinking she's got plot armour in a way, as she's saved from committing seppuku which, I truly thought was going to happen after previous episodes.
Mariko-Sama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭
It's so incredible... thank you for this super cut. What an amazing show, amazing performance of Anna Sawai and Episode 9 might be one of the best, if not the best TV show episode of all times.
Thank you very much! Glad you loved it!
The transient nature of flowers imbues them with a unique beauty, reminiscent of Japan's culture of wabi-sabi, embracing impermanence and solitude.
Anna Sawai Deserves an Academy Award!!!❤
I hope she will win Emmy...she deserves it
I cried😢 Tragic fate. Especially after fact when she felt true love before death...
Phenomenal character. She literally stole the show🔥and really fantastically played by Ann Sawai.

In Japan, there is a board game called Shogi. The difference between Shogi and Chess is that captured pieces can be used as allies.
Commendable job! Thank you for sharing. I'm a big fan of Shogun esp. Mariko.
Thank you very much!

I said the very same thing about this being one of the best episodes of television ever. And she most certainly deserves an EMMY.
Excellent edit. I'm brought to tears every damn time I watch her performances.
Thank you so much!

Very nicely done.

Please, make video about Toranaga after the end of the season. He is just the best character, and Sanada played him really wondeful.
Sure!
I missed the love story that is in the book…Mariko and Anjin are lovers not only once or twice.
I like your edit video. Good job.
Thank you!
Mariko its be best character and basic protagonist in Shogun.
They could have ran this show along way ,It ended to soon😢😢😢😢😢😢Why! This is a good show.REALLY
Show is based on the book and they went ahead with the book itself. That's why there will be no season 2.
I wasn't too sad when she died because she finally got what she wanted throughout the whole show
Anna Sawai did a fantastic job.

Too bad this awesome character was killed off 😥Mariko was an awesome lady
It was according to the book.
👏👏👍
Thank you!
I'm not convinced mariko is dead
She is...according to the book
Beautiful work! But perhaps you should put some kind of spoiler warning, as this video may appear as recommendation for people who haven't watched Ep 9.

This is a remake from 1980
A better remake
it’s based on true japanese history
THIS EPISODE 9 IS STUPID!!! IT MAKES NO SENSE AND THE WRITERS DID NOT RESEARCH!! FLAWS:
1) Mariko was tasked to A) rescue Toranaga's Wife, Consort and New Son, and escort them from the castle. B) if refused to leave, that proves all the "royals" are prisoners. Her "Suicide" was to Embarrass Ishido and the Court.
2) Since Ishido relented to release Mariko and the others, HER DUTY WAS TO GET THEM TO Toranaga, letting herself be killed was BREAKING THE PLEDGE to Toranaga!! MAKE NO SENSE, ESPECIALLY since she just found Love with Blackthorne!!
3) THERE IS NO HISTORY OF WOMEN OF ROYALITY COMMITING SEPPUKU! Mariko was a "Lady", ie Royalty, and NOT A SAMURAI! QUOTE: The custom known as "seppuku," which specifically refers to ritual suicide by disembowelment, was reserved for men of the samurai class in feudal Japan. Samurai women had different methods, which traditionally involved either slashing their own throat or stabbing themselves in the heart.Apr 16, 2024" AGAIN, MARIKO WAS NOT A SAMURAI, She Was Royality, "Lady"!!! The Character that Markio is BASED ON, NEVER HAD CONTACT WITH BLACKTHORNE, DID NOT COMMIT SUICIDE OF ANY KIND, was actually killed by her servant as she about to be captured.!! PS, the ACTUAL "Translator" that Toranaga assigned in the REAL story was a JAPANESE MAN, NOT A WOMAN!! The Writing in the Hulu Fantasy Shogun is Bullshit and Full or Flaws and Historical Inaccuracies! Blackthorne's REAL Character "Adams" Actually MARRIED his Japanese Consort assigned by Toranaga and they had two children.
I liek the effort man, but this is WAY too long and doesn't feel structured. Jumps all over the place, the inspiring quotes come at the wrong times and don't impact well. Would be better if it was 5 minutes shorter, concise, & put the best moments in order, to feel the growth of the character to her final inspiring defiance, culminating in redemption through sacrifice.
This felt like there was no build up at all.
kudos! this is a beautiful and moving video honoring the life Mariko. she reminds me of Khaleesi.
Thank you very much!
This wannabe-blackthorne looks to soft and to fleshy for his role. A constant hunger for "real food" was one of the topics in the book.
