If you aren't watching Shogun, you are seriously missing out on one of the best TV series of the last decade, at the very least. Anna is absolutely captivating as Mariko and the latest episode was both shocking and heartbreaking for her character. I have full faith that the showrunners will stick the landing with the final episode next week! Can't wait!

It's good, it's definitively not one of the best TV series of the last decade..
The show is different. The comparisons to Game of Thrones is unwarranted. There is none of the backstory of the various Houses and no presentation of the Principals of these Houses. That being said, the series is very well-done. It depicts a certain elegance and refinement which of course veils and masks for the savagery and brutality and naked power lust by some of the key players. Where the series shines is character building. John Blackthorne in this rendition is more a portal for the viewer seeing, feeling feudal Japan first as this primitive place with hostiles all around, and then slowly progressing to this elegant, refined, dignified societal structure filled with rituals and courtesies and formalities which of course belie the savagery and brutality and naked power lust that lurks underneath the airs of silk and flowers and gentle teas.
It is an excellent treatise on world that at first seems militant and foreign but them becomes familiar and for which we grow some fondness, only to be heartbroken at the turn of events and see that humanity never quite fully extracts itself from the mud of its barbaric origins, even with all the eloquence, poetry, fine garments and pristine dwellings.
Anna Sawais portrayal of Mariko is not only the best acting I have seen all year, it’s some of the best acting I have ever seen. Building on one of the most incredible, strong and complex characters ever put to paper, the show was able to elevate Mariko into new dimensions; The writers gave Mariko focus and stoicism, and Sawai gave her heart and raw, unbridled power. Not many people can believably play a one-man army able to topple an empire. What a lightning storm of a performance she gives in episode 9 and all throughout this series. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of an Emmy.

To be perfectly honest, I started watching Shogun because of Hiroyuki Sanada. I have been a huge fan of his for years. That being said, I quickly became a fan of Anna Sawai and Cosmo Jarvis.
I absolutely love this show. Typically, I don't watch Series, until they are complete. Then I beign watch them. This one is different, I find myself waiting very IMPATIENTLY, for the next one.

The clip they show is one of the finest moments for the character Mariko Sama. Her open defiance against the presumed leader of Osaka and the Council of Regents is one he really couldn't deliver a comeback for. Her statement carried a tone a bit like Gandalf coming into Edoras and the Hall of King Theoden when he says, "The courtesy of your Hall has somewhat lessened of late."
She's such an amazing actress.. Loved her in monarch as well

Shogun should be made into a Game of Thrones style series starting before Oda Nobunaga and showing Hideyoshi’s attempts to colonize Korea, as well as the first encounters with the Dutch and Portuguese traders and missionaries. It would be an amazing series if it was as well done as this minj-series.

Anna is truly the reason to watch Shogun. They're treatment of the book is just ok, but she is spot on. Her future is bright indeed!! 1980 with Richard Chamberlain was epic. Hard to live up to that production (even after 44 years). The book was phenomenal.
