As an American, we don't grow up playing, or even watching rugby. I played American football but while I was in college I started learning about and watching Rugby and naturally learned about the iconic New Zealand All Blacks. I have been a All Blacks fan for over 20 years now and last night was the best performance by an All Blacks team I've ever seen. I understand the heartbreak of Ireland and their fans, but you have to give credit to the All Blacks, they elevated their game to match and beat Ireland. Ireland played very well, and keep in mind that the All Blacks played 20 minutes of the game with 14 men and netted giving up only 4 points during that time. True master class in keeping your cool during adversity in a big game. Unbelievable. I'd have to say the only word to describe them is juggernaut. Well done, congrats to Ireland for the way they've brought Ireland into the forefront of international rugby in the last few years and hopefully years to come! Go The All Blacks!! ❤

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth no one will see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me." For God so loved the world that He give His only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but will have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the World through Him. For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord, and All who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. " If you want to be sure of Heaven and avoid the other place below say the following prayer sincerely from your heart." Lord Jesus I repent and am sorry for my sins forgive me. I forgive all who have offended me.I believe you died and Rose again .Come into my heart and save me. I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and baptise me with your Holy Spirit. Fulfill your plan and purpose in my life. "I recommend you read John's Gospel especially chapter 3.Gbu.John 3v3v22,John 14v6.

Englishman here - Ireland, you've inspired us all and brought a warmth that I only wish England could emulate (players and fans alike). Johnny, my heart is with you - you're an inspiration, be proud. The wholesome energy that Farrell and Sexton exuded in their post-match interview said it all really, so sad that's the end of the road 💚

Gutted for the Irish. Loved the way both teams played. Really felt for Ireland, but the reason I felt the pain so much is because it is our pain. Being the best team in the world doesn't automatically make you world cup winners. We learnt that over 24 years. When you are number 1, every team makes you their target and knows if they want to win a world cup they have to go through you.

Kiwi here. Beautiful game, world rugby at its finest. Respect to Ireland, they played well I thought. Didn’t do anything wrong. The men in black were zoned in mentally. Combative at the breakdowns, masterful with the kicking game, and mighty on defence. ABs have found ways to win big games in the past even when they weren’t at their best. They did it again. So, is the magic back? I don’t know. But I’m prouder than ever. Thank you.

As a neutral I think it may well be the best rugby World Cup game I’ve ever ever watched. IRE defending 30 phases in the first half, NZ defending 37 odd phases after 80 minutes, Sam Cane’s possessed performance and that cover tackle. As a neutral I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a game of rugby so much.

I don’t get this attitude …also mentioned by Sexton. It is just a way to devalue the ABs tries. Could say the same about Ireland’s tries: 5 missed tackles on Aki and very poor maul defence rather than brilliant feet from Aki and perfect maul trots over the line. Just have some humility in defeat.

I also want to pay tribute to a great leader in Johnny Sexton. He has been an unbelievable and exceptional player for Leinster and Ireland. something that was overlooked by all the commentators, pundits and youtubers alike is something that was very obvious to those who follow kiwi rugby closely, including the super series, and that is... This All Black team had never lost to Ireland. What I mean is THIS All Black team that is different to the team Ireland beat down under and is obviously a much stronger team. Players like De groot, Frizell, Lomax in the forwards and a few back changes and it's a totally different beast. It amazed me how so many were looking back at Ireland's great achievements against the All Blacks instead of looking forward to what they were facing. Nevermind c'est la vie. So happy to have won but feel so sorry for Ireland. If anyone deserved a fairytail finish they did and my heart goes out to them. It's a bitter sweet moment really but yeah what an awesome sport we support.

Have been a rugby supported my whole long adult life with family member proud to wear the green of Ireland and I never was as proud of any 23 young men as I was of those that lost yesterday. @@ben9l351 ….No, they weren’t and it reveals what bandwagoning noobs infest the comment sections of rugby vids. Even 1987 the AB’s had been recently beaten by both the French and Australian teams, were 50/50 at best and were in a huge rebuilding phase after the rebel tours to SA. I know, like all well informed folk knew back then, because I/we, watched the process, nervously.
1991, the Aussies had the good oil on the AB’s for two years prior and the rugby world at the time knew that too. The AB’s, not the favourites.
1995, definite, overwhelming favourites, hence the suspiciously timed food poisoning incident, that even had Nelson Mandela’s head of security, Rory Stein, turning up at the AB’s hotel to investigate, along with SA medical staff, with one and all saying they suspected it was deliberate, as not another patron of the hotel showed any symptoms at all.
1999, again not the favourites, as the Aussies had dominated SH rugby utterly, which was known by all who know stuff about rugby …. Another strange thing about the 1999 campaign, there was a stoppage early in the final between FRA & AUS, that was pre microphones on refs and it involved John Eales telling the ref that if he didn’t police the incessant eye gouging bring done by the French after repeated requests, he’d march the Wallabies off the field. Why was John Eales so adamant, so early on you might ask? Well, because he’d had AB’s players contact him about the French doing it to them for the entirety of the semi final and the ref refused to act upon it. So, John Eales threatened to walk the team off to force the NH ref to act.
Next, 2003. The English were outright, unstoppable, utterly deserved favourites and only the daftest of CZcams know nothings would’ve bet against them.
2007, the AB’s had the favourites tag rightfully applied to them for a long time and then Wayne Barnes appeared on the scene and, by his own belated, public admission, he phuqqed that test up utterly and came clean in public commentary about destroying the chances of the AB’s making it past the French, due to his own wretched performance with the whistle. 60 mins of not calling a penalty against the statistically dirtiest team in the tourney, while pedantically calling every jottle & tit against the other team has that effect.
2011…. Favourites again & won it.
2015…. Favourites again & won it.
2019, not favourites, massive rebuilding after the core of the squad retired from test rugby en masse after the 2015 RWC.
That’s the good oil on the reality of AB’s having the favourites tag for RWC’s and it shows how little tippy tappy typers on CZcams know and how much the AB’s live rent free in your ill informed noggins.

As an expat kiwi who's supported the All Blacks for all 50+ years of my life, I can honestly say that for THIS AB team they had to have a solid game plan and execute it to perfection. That's perfection from both coaching staff and players, and they managed to execute both last night.
There were several factors in play last night within that black jersey. Yes Ireland had a series win in NZ, it was a NZ team and rugby union still dealing with the impact of covid shutdowns. No lessening of Ireland's achievement but that fragility was in THAT NZ team and support staff.
Irish & Northern hemisphere pundits and media were completely writing off NZ after their loss to France in the pools and the loss to the Bokkes in the warmup game. Again, that was not this group of 23 and those were games that don't count for the top end of the RWC comp. NZ have won 3 world cups and have lost more, that combination gives them unique insight into how to manage this tournament. Don't overlook the benefit of that institutional knowledge.
The Irish fans were great for their team, but trying to drown out the Haka is a mistake. Kapo o panga is a deep spiritual message about what it means to be and to challenge an All Black. It might sound trite, but the crowd doing that undoubtedly drove the boys deeper into that blackness of All Black Mana. Gave them the fuel to withstand an 80min 37 phase attack from Ireland. It's hard for folks from outside NZ to understand that, but it's real. Trust me.
I have not been a fan of the long distance camera angles seen in the TV coverage of this RWC, but what it did show last night was that the Irish attack was very one note. Attack after attack they had the same structures and same ball movement within that structure. It's very reminiscent of how Australia used to play when they were on top of world rugby back in the 90's. Fozzy even mentioned it in the press conference saying something like "They were very cut & paste in their attack, weren't they". That made Ireland predictable and vulnerable. They didn't seem to have the ability to switch to a plan B. That cost them dearly.
Someone already said it in the comment stream, Ireland, as always, and I mean ALWAYS, bases future match expectations on a handful of past game results and builds expectations in the team and fans that can be greatly over hyped. This was particularly rampant for this match. I don't know how many different pundits I either watched on CZcams or read on the web that were mistakenly assuming this would be an easy game for Ireland. That again was a mistake.
NZ arrived with a game plan, and the pain and desire to wipe out all those points above meant they executed it to perfection with superhuman efforts across the team. NZ played 1/4 of that game with 14 men on the field, just stop and think about that. Think about how deep that team pulled from to pull that off. You could see how deep they went with how Ardie was reacting to big moments, how you could see on his face how much it meant to win this game.
As they say "it's the hope that kills". I'm sorry the Irish fans are feeling broken and disappointed (you're own media doesn't help lessen that any), sport is cruel. You should feel proud of your team, they played to the best of their ability using their tried and trusted game plan. It's just that the opposition had the edge and an extremely effective game plan to nullify Ireland. Ireland had no plan B, so the ABs didn't have to modify their plan either and they had the skills, and most importantly, the composure, to stick to it for 80+ minutes. It was a perfect game of rugby between two great teams. Game of the tournament so far.

Ireland will be a worse team in 4 years, 9 players will likely be gone from this side by then and none of the replacements will have any wc experience because we played the same side over and over again. Sexton and Keith Earls are gone. Aki, Peter O'Mahony and Conor Murray will be too old. Gibson Park, James Lowe, Tadhg Beirne and Iain Henderson will all be 35. If the best-ever Irish side can't beat arguably the worst-ever AB's side with 14 men for a quarter of the game when it matters then it quite possibly will never happen. 2031 is the next realistic opportunity.

@@kurupt7154 You're right there are many, probably more to try and convince themselves that Ireland would win, some just believing the hype and don't really know that much about rugby but have been swept away with all the excitement. Those of us that follow rugby know once thing, never write off the All Blacks, you do that at your own perril, and is you do you'll often come up with egg on your face.
I always thought the game world be tight but I did think venue the game started that Ireland would edge it, and that could have happened if the try that was held up had its way to ground. But after New Zealand went 13 points up and Sexton was constantly kicking for the corner I felt scoreboard pressure would take its toll and I think the end it did (something I'd heard in the build up NZ's plan would have to be and it turned out it was). The All Blacks made very few mistakes, didn't give away penalties in kickable positions unless they are forced to go stop potential tries, were so quick to the breakdowns, and basically managed the game so well, they were the better team. I give Ireland credit for the way they kept coming back.
The truth is that this shouldn't ever have been a Quarter Final. Either of these teams would have wiped the floor with England, Fiji, Wales, and to a lower extent but still easily beating Argentina (the same being true for France and South Africa). I expect a New Zealand v South Africa final and I can't see past the All Blacks winning if they can repeat how they played last night.

Nz'er here. Feel that our top players used all of that emotion and experience and all of our key players performed - even as we lost our two of them for 20 minutes. Look at what Codie, Cane, Savea, Richie Jordie, Beaudie, Reiko, ALB, did in particular and Whitelock to force the penalty. Great discipline at the end 37 too, which has been an issue.
I knew we would win when I saw Aaron Smith's interview earlier in the week. It seems to be a very different but special ABs.
Hoping for a France ABs final. Either way ABs should be very proud.

The series loss last year and the IRE pool games have helped the AB to prepare and masterfully execute the game plan to beat IRE. As an AB supporter, I never thought we had the coaching staff to devise or the players to execute the game plan. But the plan and execution were brilliant, winning the breakdown, the set pieces, the kicking game, clinical finishing, and more importantly, the defense. Oh my, the defense in the last 10mins was brilliant, but i did think IRE ran out of gas, and ideas, by this time. IRE needed impact subs in the last 20mins. But, what a game, what a game!

I like your comment about the Irish influence on Rugby. We've had several generations of NZ rugby where the ABs team have changed the way rugby is played. This last cycle it is Ireland who has done that. They are a phenomenal team. They have forced the ABs to learn an entire new system in order to compete with them, and inspired every single player who stepped out on the park to face them to reach their maximum potential. It really was a Final for us last night. I'm still smiling thinking about the game.

It was an amazing game of rugby, 2 teams played really well, I was hiding behind the sofa for that last 37 phases, and it had to be Whitelock with the key intervention. Thrilled for Fossie and Sam Cane, they have got stick at home and abroad (and on the pitch in Sams case) the last 18 months, but to put that performance together was brilliant. Hard luck on the Irish, but they will be back no doubt 💪🏼💪🏼

This was the most intense rugby test match I have ever watched. The build-up and hype, both teams performance were great, the Irish fans were amazing... not until the final whistle you can be certain who would be the winner. Unfortunate for Ireland. I reckon the brillance and experience of a few ABs made the slight difference. What a spectacle!!

A long one lol Started out as a short comment but quickly evolved into a screed:
I'm old enough to remember all of our previous QF exits, and while I am absolutely gutted this one is very different. What an immense match. Ireland showed up this year. The team are probably disappointed that they played well but not great, but NZ applied pressure from minutes 1-80 and really neutralised our threats. New Zealand deserve so much credit. They needed to put in a very big performance, and they did. It was enough - barely.
A number of leaders are retiring, and that certainly adds to the sadness today, but the future looks very bright for Irish rugby. The same couldn't have been said with the same amount of confidence after previous world cup exits. We were all terrified about the future without D'Arcy, O'Driscoll, O'Connell et al. when they retired, but young players have consistently stood up and taken the team to new heights.
The most damaging loss that we might expect in the coming months would be the departure of Andy Farrell and others from the coaching group. I'm hoping it won't happen, but the RFU would be negligent if they fail to give him whatever he asks for to manage England once this tournament is over. We Irish supporters can only hope they continue their record of poor decision making in the board room.
Finally, thanks for the amazing coverage of the tournament: an analytical fan's eye view. So refreshing and engaging. Keep up the great work.

I'm not sure Tim why you interviewed those guys in that bar last night. They obviously don't like Ireland.I think that was a shame given the huge effort the Ireland squad put in the really tough group games and a one week turn around .I think Ireland really just kept coming back. They just didn't get it in the end.
The first New Zealand try resulted from James Lowe returning the ball the New Zealand when the Irish players were taking a breather after defending the back lines.
I was shouting at the Tv for him not to kick was I saw the forwards with hands on hips breathing heavily.
Also Conor Murray giving a silly pen away for Barrett to kick after he missed one a few minutes before.Sexton missed penalty was costly.
Ireland could have won it was so tight.
    Buy well done New Zealand.
