Asuka has gone on to state that she asked for it. Minoru was one of her idols, and beyond that she felt that if she could handle his stiff wrestling style she would become to female version of strong style. Minoru has been wrestling a very long time and has yet to cause a serious injury. His style is brutal, but he takes care of his opponents.
Coz afterall he is still the 'grandpa'
The KING
concussions are serious injuries to knock someone out with a headbut then to lift them up and hit them befor they come to is leaving a concussion no mATTER WHAT your ridlicous if u think she wasnt concussed after this
Minoru is one of the best ever
Man vs woman is stupid from both a kayfabe standpoint as well as real life. For the very same reason letting transgender people fight women is stupid
Asuka's refusal to settle for the joshi status quo not only made her a great heel, but also gave her the opportunity to go to WWE and become, ironically, probably the most famous joshi in history. Much like how Rey Mysterio is famous worldwide and is the face (or rather, the mask) that people think of when talking about lucha, Asuka is the face of Japanese women's wrestling for anyone who isn't from Japan or a highly engaged smark.
Tbh Chigusa Nagayo was probably more famous just within Japan than Asuka is worldwide, ditto for El Santo over Mysterio in Mexico. I get the point you're making but I think WWE fans fail to grasp the enormity of just how big certain non-WWE stars were in the pre-internet days. Yes, WWE has global reach but is fairly niche nowadays and unfortunately the average person on the street couldn't tell you who Asuka is, whether here in NYC or even her hometown Osaka. The Crush Gals on the otherhand were true celebrities and even got NBC News to cover them, plus Vince brought them over for house shows at MSG and Boston Garden where they popped crowds.
She also became the most successful Japanese wrestler in WWE.
I question if WWE/triple H/Vince McMahon even knew about this match when they signed her…
@@BiG-JuPO1O1 Only because she didn't let them do what they likely wanted to do with her. It's been easy to see that Vince has this thing about keeping Latin and Asian wrestlers, especially women, down because they don't fit his mold of a wrestler. He definitely wanted to have his steroid bloated "talent" to put these "little people" in their place.
@@jimjaspers3050 I would say yes. Due to only seeing them on CZcams it's a little tough to remember names, but I remember watching one match a joshi legend had against Aja Kong as her retirement match. The whole hardcore deal. "Electrified" barbed wire instead of ropes, and all. Not big weapons, not their style. No fake blood though, either.
This woman was held up to Godess status. Even Aja Kong broke character at the end and bowed to her. That would be equivalent to Ric Flair hugging an opponent. Unthinkable.
One VERY big detail ommitted from this story is that this match was the last show for Kana Pro Wrestling, as Asuka had already announced that she was coming over to the U.S.
One other thing is that Asuka had worked intergender matches regularly in her company and almost always booked herself to lose.
The Minoro beatdown was just because she wanted something extra memorable for Kana Pro's final show.
Actually this wasn't the last Kana Pro show, there were five shows after this with the last happening 15 months later. She would also go on to team with Minoru in another intergender match against Shuri and Yoshiaki Fujiwara on the following show 4 months after this one, a match that they would lose when she was pinned by Shuri. Her match on the final show was a 6-person tag match with Kana, Shuri and Hikaru Shida against Arisa Nakajima, Ryo Mizunami and Rina Yamashita which Kana's team won.

This is an uncomfortable match to watch, but Kana booked it and it turned out exactly the way she wanted. Suzuki is one of the most terrifying heels in the business, but he is also a respectful professional and while this looks absolutely horrifying, he is in no ways taking liberties.
For all that it's a difficult match to watch, it did exactly what Kana booked it to do, and did so extremely successful. It made Suzuki look like a cruel and brutal bastard, and it made Kana look as tough as nails for taking it for as long as she did.
The fact that we are still talking about it years later, and that Suzuki is still taking bookings for intergender matches hoping for something half as effective as this one, is a testament to its success.
You get it. This fucking youtuber doesn't. Though I don't think this match made Asuka look tough at all.
Yeah he did what was asked of him, from his promoter. He looked like he was like oh shoot I killed her haha
Show me a single intergender headbutt that you can hear from the main camera. I think she asked him to do something she couldn't handle and had no way to mediate it once that choice was made. There's nothing professional about repeated stiffs to the head. The visceral soap opera of a pro wrestling heel doesn't circumvent law and order just because the fans are all in on kayfabe now. Wrestling fans repeat trivia like truth, even though we also know pro wrestlers are at best thespians and at worst con artists. But they're certainly not honest people. Their stories change over time and there seems to be a lot of pressure to say what you're told to say when you're in the moment.
To be fair though, if this was truly an unwanted assault, when he would have dropped his guard to taunt her she would have just gouged one of his eyes out. Maybe it was planned, but it certainly wasn't professional. She's either a victim or an idiot.
@@danloweIt is professional, if it's what the promoter (Asuka) said should happen and you do it you're being professional if not you're not being professional. Asuka knew what she was doing, the match established her as a tough wrestler who can handle a lot of punishment and gave the respect she has in Japan.
@@based_windwalker The excuse of "Doing whats asked" doesn't make it right. Soldiers were just following orders under Hitler. Respecting other performers and your own values are important. If someone askes you to do things that go against your own values, you shouldn't do them. It's not that complicated. The fact that he followed through with it because "its was what was told" isn't a good excuse for anything. He went over the line
The fact that Asuka still hasn't won at WM is criminal.
I'm hoping with Vince essentially banned from the product that this will change.
She still holds a lot of records and already is a grand slam champ. Her WM lose streak isn't that big of an issue. She is still a very solid wrestler

This was a right of passage for both people,it wasn't a negative thing at all. This is showing how Asuka(Kana) is a legit badass and wanted to be the best by all means!
I thought this would be even more controversial than the infamous Stardom Yoshiko beatdown, but I was slightly less shocked it was revealed it was actually Asuka herself that book the match.
Legit this makes Asuka one of toughest wrestlers in WWE
So true, she’s probs the toughest in the WWE locker room, I don’t think many women would be down to do this
No it doesn't. She asked for a shoot match, any wrestler can peform in a shoot match. You really have no idea what you're watching
@@nutter789 you think all the divas would put up with that in a match let alone book it that way?
It made her look incredibly weak, like a punctuation on the men vs women debate, when in a real fight she'd have used every 'dirty' trick from biting off his lips to clawing out his eyes. It would have been much more impressive had they had a marathon or allowed her to evade him rather than try to hit him back like he hit her. Yeah probably, he has a reputation for being stiff

@@ScoobyWithADobie Oh, bullshit on your BULLSHIT. You can’t have Kana come to him and literally tell him to stiff her, and then cry about him being stiff. She literally TOLD him to do it. As far as your “random dude” skid mark, you can pull up any New / All-Japan match from nearly any decade you wish and watch how stiff they were. Nearly all the wrestlers from the west had to shoot in some cases to survive. Ichi-Bon strong style. It’s all there to watch so how about you shut your suck as you clearly don’t know shit about it.
It's a testament to their skills as wrestlers that they were able to sell everyone on the brutality. The fact that people thought it was going too far, despite Asuka not actually sustaining serious injuries, is impressive.
Great video, didn't know Asuka was through so much in Japan. She's truly the goat in women's wrestling
Strangely enough if you watch closely suzuki looks a little worried as he stands in the ring. Kinda like hes waiting for movement or a sign from Kana. (Thats she's ok)
But of course if its a show. Its has to move forward.
Kana wanted to test herself.
I like everything about Asuka. She made me a fan again, as I quit watching pro wrestling after the Monday Night war.
Wow what a great video. It really clears a lot up and makes more sense why she takes off how she does.
So, in short: Asuka wanted to put on a show which seemed real, and didn't want her opponent to pull his punches - and she acted it out so well that people actually believed it was real, while she suffered no injury or adverse effects at all. She always wanted to be part of men's wrestling, and fulfilled her own wish at the end of her Japanese run, going up against one of her idols and delivering a brutal, memorable fight, which is the opposite of what she criticized women's wrestling for (being to stylized and focused on good looks).
I don't know man, sounds like "intergender wrestling gone right" to me.
If there is one thing I know about Joshis, they're insanely tough. If you have ever seen the bumps Minami Toyota put her self through, Megumi Kudo putting her body through fire, barbed wire and explosives you will know these women have a tolerance for pain many men might not even have. The Joshis in Zenjo arguably took things way harder then the men did back in the 80s and 90s. Chaprita Asari got her nose broken live on RAW back in 1995 by Aja Kong and after that match all the "boys" in the locker room were up in arms over how brutal that match was.
Intergender wrestling is a lot more common in Japan then it is here. Saki Akai is a good example of a women that wrestles exclusively for a male promotion.

You're wrong. Asuka is the baddest chick on the planet for this! When you said it was all planned, my jaw dropped. She legit told him to go full Spopovick vs Videl on her. Asuka forever has my respect, and so does Suzuki.
It was scripted.
@@ace-zs1obno…shit that’s what they said?
@@darkvioletskull yes femcel.
The problem is that people are afraid it can perpetrate the normalization of men beating women.
Obviously, men are naturally physically stronger than women, therefore such a thing is unfair at best.
The problem isn't the match per se, of course Asuka/Kana was absolutely consenting, heck, she booked the thing herself, but rather the fact it supposedly may set a bad example to viewers, especially since it's all made in kayfabe and viewers may not know it's staged.
@@Shendue .....you're obviously new. Nobody watches wrestling because they think it's real unless they're under 6 years old. If this is what you're worried about, you should consider if wrestling has been normalizing violence in general. This is an industry that already depicts a lot of ultraviolence. Not too mention obody would be complaining if he were dominating a skinny, meek man even smaller than Asuka.
Leads me to remember that beatdown that Lita took, at the hands of Triple H and SCSA:
Those chair shots were brutal; and the Pedigree on her, was the original, more realistic one (that Trips was told to modify into a safer version).
The amazing thing is: that she wanted it "to look as real as possible"...to, likewise, "prove how tough she is".
I also remember Eddie Guerrero power bombing the shit out of Lita on the floor, on an episode of Raw.
I hope triple H and this weird thing go to hell for hurting girls like this
@@edencieslowski9310they aren't girls lol, they're professional female wrestlers and if they asked for it, then..well. I suppose it's on them.
But for both Suzuki and trips, neither one really injured the female they were working with. Intergender matches can *LOOK* absolutely brutal at times, but in most cases the males working with them are pretty safe with the female, and almost always concerned about the wellbeing...even if it doesn't always look like it.
Men may be physically stronger than women (biologically)but that in no way means that women are not tough as all hell with absurd levels of pain tolerance.
@@edencieslowski9310imagine being such a loser that you have to write in your bio that you are, quote, "better than you and your family combined" LMAO.
Not surprised coming from a thing that looked like its missing a chromosome
you also need to remember they are talking to each other the whole time wheather that's unspoken slaps or claps on bodie parts or actual words they mask around ring talk.
In this case Paul is a BIG guy especially at the height of Lita's time.
I'm sure when given the choice the female wrestlers aren't going to "step" into a ring with a male wrestler they don't feel safe with.
Thank you for talking more about asuka’s background I’ve been a fan of hers since her nxt days where she was undefeated always wanted to meet her irl it’s on my bucket list actually a lot of ppl say wwe is underutilizing her but think about she’s a former raw smackdown nxt women’s champion and tag champion she’s done almost everything there but she is really passionate about her love for wrestling eventually when she does retire i personally hope she just enjoys herself bc she’s earned everything she’s accomplished truly a one of a kind wrestler 🤡
3/7 of those reigns suck. The best ones were as Raw Women's Champion (the second time), NXT Women's Champion, and Tag Team Champion with Kairi Sane. This is clearly a double standard. If that's what she wanted, then there is no controversy. Wrestling fans keep on going on about how they want equal treatment for female wrestlers, then they complain when female wrestlers CHOOSE to be in violent matches.
Like the various bloody women's matches in AEW. No one forced those women to be in those matches. They chose to be, just like Mick Foley and Terry Funk chose to be in bloody matches decades ago. Terry and Mick are legends for their violent matches, but some wrestling fans want to go on a moral crusade when women chose to be in violent matches.
Yeah, too many fans are paternalistic nowadays. I'm a huge Stardom/Joshi fan and I can't tell you how many people cry about it being too dangerous because they're used to seeing watered down diva matches. They're trained professionals, they KNOW what they're doing.
I understand what you are saying, and I respect it, but life is filled with double standards, and this is just one of them. Inter gender wrestling can be done right but this time it was done wrong. It’s just not acceptable to watch a man literally b*ating up a woman in a one sided fight.
@@AgeOfWrestlinghow many squash matches have you seen throughout wrestling? How many are you making videos on? Did you make a video on Brock lesner destroying the one legged cancer survivor?
Asuka is a man
@@Ironmike341 You need to make your own videos rather than expecting everyone else to be an encyclopedia to your particular worldview. If life is unfair, then rhetoric and speech is unfair. I'm about to watch a Glenn Greenwald segment about Waco and forget all about why I was mad about Suzuki. Now THAT'S an unfair story whose truths don't get told and someday might be forgotten. Because a person's message is theirs to carry, and ceases to exist without a messenger. If this creator doesn't want to say what you think people need to hear, then you need to say it, and publicize it, memorialize it. Or the idea itself will disappear from history and no longer considered for a 'balanced' argument.
I’m just now realizing Suzuki is one of the many men I watched Bas Rutten completely destroy a couple times in shoot fights in Pancrase.
I had no idea just how much of a badass this woman really was!! I have so much more respect for her now, not that i didn't before, but after seeing this, it's on a whole new level!!
Asuka is incredible. Everything about her is off the charts. She has the sweetest and most beautiful smile ever, too.
Asuka is amazing. I would love to meet her and give her a hug and tell her how amazing she is. She really is something special in the wrestling business and it’s rare to see a man or woman as popular as they are, be as humble as she is. Phenomenal work.
As a casual fan, she's always been the standout for me. Belair, until live, I thought overrated, seeing live, Bianca and Asuka are something special.
She hits people with her hair. I can't take her serious at all. With her fake hair whip. She looks so stupid swinging that thing around like inspector gadget when he does the go go gadget helicopter.
I think it won't be controversial when i say Asuka is the greatest Japanese fenale wrestler ever.
Her story and rise to superstardom is absolutely incredible ❤
Nah dude. Is not the best. First of all she is semi-retired wrestling in the WWE. Secondly she doesn't come near to the levels of Joshi legends of the 80s and 90s. Not her fault as that era was special and the training was perfection. Japanese women Pro-Wrestling will never produce that level of fighters again.
I mean his name is 'Murder Grandpa' for a reason. Also Kana/Asuka was the booker for this match and it did exactly what she wanted it to do. Suzuki became a MONSTER heel and Kana was the biggest baby face in KANA!PRO.
This is kayfabe nonsense. We can't trust our eyes because the most dishonest people on earth told us a story about it going to plan. Pro wrestlers stories change all the time. Standards change all the time. It was unprofessional to let Asuka's ego risk her life. OR it was unprofessional to stiff her that much just because the match called for it. She clearly can't go punch for punch with a heavy weight. This isn't a testament to why she belongs there but a reminder about her fragility. She's done enough other athletic stuff to forget this but it was incredibly stupid the way it was run. I simply can't believe Asuka would ever take this beating IRL. She'd run, she'd throw stuff in his eyes, stab him or (now that she's in the US) shoot him. It was nothing but a parable of failure.
@@danlowe Disagree completely. If this had gone past where it should have people from backstage would have come out to actually stop it. Asuka wanted this, she wanted to prove to Suzuki that she could hang with more than just Joshi wrestlers, and this helped prove it. It was literally withing like a year and a half of this that WWE hired her.
@@charlieflickinger7372 I don't remember anyone coming out to help Mic Foley when Rock broke their agreement about how many chairshots he was going to get. It's not a regulated science, heavily waivered and built on a party culture of risk taking. I have no problem with risk taking, I just think we're all giving her and wrestlers in general more credit than they deserve in terms of hindsight. I just don't believe that match went as planned. He could have permanently disabled her before anyone could intervene, which could happen in any match. But particularly one where your shoot is a beatdown, you've got to show more head and neck care than this. We can respect her willpower without getting in line to support her terrible decision making. She gets a brain injury and her story and legend ends before it starts.
Also the way she stiffed him back without making a dent just reinforced how much leverage a smaller person needs to confront a larger person. Every other time I've seen retaliatory stiffs it was a message to the other wrestler that they're going too far. That's what disgusted me. In terms of the mythology and cultural message, maybe it did show that a woman can shoot with anyone but it definitely didn't reinforce they could go 'toe to toe' with them. It seemed to punctuate the argument that women are out of their league when it comes to trained H2H combat.

What a fucking legend, words cannot describe it but your video did it well!
"Its's not even a thing of projecting western values onto Japanese wrestling" - Bud that's *exactly* what you're doing.
Pssdivd aggressive western approach 🤣🤣🤣
Why should someone respect the values of a violent culture?
There's something called basic *human* decency. It has nothing to do with culture. Also, culture can be objectively wrong.
@@ferna2294that's a good question. I too was quite puzzled when people cheered vandalising and looting.
If you watch closely he throws working punches between those slaps. Needless to say that headbutt sound was nasty. Props to everyone all around, imo this was great.
Asuka is one of the best wrestlers I’ve ever seen. She’s so talented.
Auska is sooo freaking cute
I love how the close captioning calls her "Oscar" like Jim Cornette. Hilarious.
Asuka is a legend and she will be in the WWE hall of fame for all the years of hard working and kicking ass.
Japanese purruresu is so savage and brutal. I don’t mean that in a bad way since I love it but if you’re strictly a western pro wrestling fan it’ll be a pleasant shock when tuning in for the first time :)
Damn Aska really paid her dues.
Great Video as I'm a big fan is Asuka! We all know how she did in NXT.
Very interesting.
It's crazy to know that Asuka wanted him to do this.
You can even see where she really starts hitting him pretty hard to get him to hit her harder.
Bro really called Meiko "Miko" Satomura 😭
Apologies for the bad pronunciation 😂
And also Asuka is the smallest wrestler manage to put NIA JAX to GERMAN SUPLEX in a multiple ocassion in NXT.
Even they bring Kana vibe WWE is still holding back ASUKA and IO and MEIKO.
Io doing piledrivers to people would be amazing, it's weird they only allow Kane and Undertaker do them despite them not being the safest anymore.
Bro I likes her in wwe, but I never knew she did all this. Her beating was by Suzuki was art
That was brutal.
Asuka aka Kana isnt the only woman he beat hard in the ring.. he did this to Sak Akai and boy that girl stood up to him and fought back at him more then Kana did. She really tall for an japanese woman too and as wrestled many guys in DDT so I have huge respect for her.. too bad her career ends this year.. like.. next month?
This is scripted.
Yo im sorry im 😂 but i accidentally busted out laughing at the start of the beating. I feel bad about it 😅
Asuka had one hell of an idea on how to increase her reputation after having the guts to call Joshi Wrestling out
Definitely one of the best ❤😊
Video and thumbnail is in real poor taste as the match was simply stiff, consensual, and not “an incident.” It’s especially poor when there are actual shoot incidents such as with Act Yasukawa that weren’t consensual like Suzuki vs Kana.
I respect your opinion
Nah,still no excuse, its just ok to beat the shit outta women over there
what he means is "you're a furry twat"
@@AgeOfWrestlingit's not an opinion, that's a fact you fucking chump
You even stated in your video that Asuka asked him to be as stiff as he could. It's not an opinion. You just proved that yourself. Idiot. Go into the world and get a fucking job. You ain't shit here. You don't know shit. You think it's promoting domestic violence even though female wrestlers attack male wrestlers within storylines all the fucking time. You never mentioned that. It's because you're completely unaware of the politics of wrestling, the culture and the wrestlers themselves. Its a fuck up world you have NO GRASP ON. LMFAO 🤣🤣👌
My intro to Suzuki was his match vs Jon Moxley in AEW. This is wild
Thinking about how she took that beating to earn respect from Suzuki who she admired ( successfully achieving her goal ) legit made me emotional for some reason. Beauty in pain..
Honestly Suzuki is actually a very very kind person outside of the ring and very respectful, so I don’t doubt he probably did do everything he could to try and talk her out of it or at least warned her what she was asking for. But she probably just didn’t care and was going to go through with it no matter what he said. But honestly in the end this worked out exactly how she wanted it to, it gave her a reason to get written off screen for her to go to wwe and take her big chance which paid off and it gave Suzuki even more heat and hatred than he already had and gave him more legitimacy as well. In terms of booking it’s actually quite genius but definitely shouldn’t be replicated in my opinion. But another female wrestler that made her name in hardcore intergender matches is actually Candice larae she is actually a big pioneer for women’s wrestling in my opinion and very underrated.
She didn't join WWE until over a year after this match, and in that time she put on 5 more Kana Pro events with the last happening a week after her WWE signing was announced which was 15 months after this match. She also in fact actually teamed with Minoru in another intergender match against Shuri and Yoshiaki Fujiwara in the event following this one 4 months later, a match they would go on to lose with Kana being pinned by Shuri.
i literally was covering my face and turning my head during the recap of the match
This is what we need to bring back, this was cool wwe take notes.
I’ve been a proud Asuka simp since like 2010. I stumbled upon her matches on CZcams and I was like, “Yo! Who the hell is this?! She wrestles like a dude!” She was amazing. And I’m very happy that she came to WWE and had such an amazing career there.
Would I have preferred that they gave her the ‘98 Goldberg treatment on the main roster and made her champion for a year and won at Wrestlemania? Yes, obviously. But she’s had a wildly successful career there. Royal Rumble winner, Money in the Bank winner, multiple time singles champion, tag team champion (and best women’s tag team champion), and she barely speaks English. That’s crazy that they keep using her so prominently despite the language barrier.
And I watched what women’s wrestling was in the 2000s where it was an after thought and they were constantly pushing models who wrestled badly. You had like Mickie James, Melina, Beth Phoenix, and Michelle McCool and everyone else was trash. And if you think the others weren’t trash, it’s because you were too young to know better or too single to care. Asuka’s WWE career is miles better than any of the top women’s careers in the 2000s. It’s better than most men’s.
Asuka is the Booker T of the WWE Women’s division. Crazy talented wrestler that can fit in any role you give her from random tag team to main eventer. Had a killer career but was so good that you wish they had a John Cena career, even though they’re easily Hall of Fame material that nobody with a brain would question.
Asuka is such a badass.
Asuka (kana) is my favorite wrestler. She is awesome. I had the pleasure of seeing her live recently and she's a bad ass.
lmfao I remember this match, I knew the moment Kana stepped into the ring the match was already over.
Lol, I love it 😂
She was probably complaining to him for twenty minutes that he was being too soft. This woman is tough as nails. This was a work, it's evident it's a work.
Bro I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. Christ almighty she took the beating like a champ
My absolute favorite Joshi/Women's wrestler of all time, Kana, with Ayoko Hamada coming in a close second.
I still have edits/caws of them and many more on WWF No Mercy. I was a huge fan back in the day of Arsion.
