    I did Ricor Intimidators with Progressive springs. Really made a difference. After I got a buddies yz250 fork conversion. The setup was very comparable to the yz but less adjustment. I will swap the Ricor/Progressive guts with new oil into a 2009 that's like new. Then after saving some coins I'll do the same Cogent setup. Very noice👌

      I did the Top Gun coil as a stop gap measure until I was able to save up for the Cogent. It got me through and I'm very happy I went with Cogent. 👍

    Have you had a look at the fork bushes yet? I was surprised how bad mine were after 50,000km - some parts were worn through
    You'll love the new suspension (I have similar from Ricor), it just goes where you point it & doesn't try to bounce you off. Power is nothing without control!

    I need to do something as I'm bottoming out the suspension in the woops. That Cogent Stuff is nice and has to make a big difference. When I looked up the $$$$$, reality check. Good video

    • @masonsadv
      @masonsadv  Před 5 lety

      Yes, that's typical. You may find the top gun coil helps with the compression but I found the shock had a hard time keeping up with the heavier spring rate and once hot, really struggled. The Cogent stuff isnt cheap but the KLR was :D We certainly didn't pay for great suspension from the factory ;) Cheers Ken.

    When I installed my racetech valves and springs in my forks @ 14,000 miles I did not change the fork seals. The seals blow out at 20,000 miles half way though an 11,000 mile ride. My take away from that experience is change the fork seals when you have the forks apart. I did the cogent rear shock at the same time as the racetech valves on the forks. It was the best modification I did. I do not remember feeling a single bump all though those 11,000 miles.

      You only need to remove the forks in order to change the oil out. If you’re deciding not to change the oil you just drop the new components in without taking the forks off. The kit comes with their recommended oil though so it worth doing.

    You do good work Mason. Are the Cogent spacers metal or PVC? Any thoughts on the use of either material? I can see the lightness advantage of PVC (which Progressive uses) but I wonder about brittleness over time or in the cold.

      Hi Pinkie, good question re the plastic spacers - I've had thin ones (plumbing pipe from the hardware shop) for over 50,000 km with no problems, so these thick ones should be good for ever.

    Hello Mason you have convinced me after watching each one of these videos 2 or 3 times each.
    Question for you: Is the DDC Installation tool really required? I will get it if required, but at $45USD to us Canadians it seems like a lot of $$$ for a one time use magnet on a stick, or am I missing something here? Can I just use a general purpose telescoping pen type magnetic unit?
    I just noticed 2 years + 1 day, to the day you posted the original rear shock install. I am going to buy the front and rear shock but waiting on the reply for the DDC install tool.

    • @masonsadv
      @masonsadv  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Paul. Funny you should ask about the tool for the DDC. I used it yesterday for the second time so for me it's worth having around. The shock oil is in the tube before you slide the DDC in and the tool holds it in place as you slide the shock over the tool to sit on the DDC. Then you remove the tool, install the spacer and top cap. A long magnet may work fine but the tool works perfectly ;)
