I've always believed that Honda made the best XR trail bike when it made the 400. This bike was just the right size, weight and power for ripping through the woods. Now, as far as this particular one goes, it looks and sounds amazing.
@Quirin M. I absolutely love my 600. Always has enough power and feels much lighter than it is.
@Quirin M. Yeah, I've owned both. The 600 is a good machine. I set my 600 up as a dual sport, street legal. I just feel a bit more confident on the tight, technical stuff I usually ride on the 400. However, truth be told, I prefer the KDX (love 2 strokes) over both. That all said, I really miss seeing them all new in dealerships.
What about the 82-85 xr350? Is that a contender? Maybe just the 85 because the 83-84 sported dual carb
There's not a 400 that can catch my 600. Web-cam, Wiseco piston, dual carbs dialed, custom transmission.... Shit I'll put money where my mouth is, if i didn't go broke building it lmao.
I have a 1989 CRM250R that could give the 400 a run for the money. Look it up, we never got them in the states. I have one in California street legal.
The XR400R is an absolute legend. The perfect package of fun, comfort, reliability and performance.
I have a 98 that has been through the wringer, and never let me down. The tank and side panels look like they've been sandblasted from rubbing against them while covered with mud. Seeing this one with the A-Loop kit on it has my wallet burning. Wish the graphics were available because they're better looking than what's out there for sale! Great job!
They are really speacial. All the graphics kits are top top quality and design. The graphics can make or break a bike

They never should have stopped making them. Perfect bike for an older guy that's getting back in to riding. Perfect bike for all around fun. I love mine.
@@1176hambone owning a crf 450 with the amount of money I make would just be a constant struggle to be able to afford to even ride it, seems like Honda forgot that poor people like to haul ass too 🤣

Beautiful!! Another masterpiece we all took for granted!! The XR line in general was unbelievable.
I would rather have the XR line back and get rid of Hondas CRF Trail Bike lineup. So many of us grew up cutting our teeth on a xr200 in the woods in Michigan. That 200 engine was special. Anyone ability level could have fun on it.

This CZcams video is the single reason I now own a new ( to me ) 2001 XR400R. So glad I chose this machine to get back into two wheels after a few decades off the single track. Easy to ride, easy to work on - doesn’t get any better!

I had a 1985 XR-350 it had a rear drum brake and I alway thought with a rear disk brake and a little more power it would easily be the perfect bike for the woods

Kickass job guys.. your old lady should charge $100 an hour work time on her decal kits put them up out on the market put some money back in your guys' account. It's definitely a won a kind work of art.
Oh wow , I bought an 04 in 05 from a dealer in Orlando, still had the little nubs on the tires and not even a scratch on the engine side covers. Raced it, and sold it to buy my 06 RM 250, now I find myself looking on cycle trader now and then … Beautiful example !

My first bike was an SL70, next was an XL250. Both were predictably docile------then came the CR250R!! I just can't adjust back to 4 strokes. I loved the sudden and brutal power of the CR. Nothing like it.

Absolutely love my 01 XR400! So much so, I sold my 96 CR500 to my buddy, (I still get to ride it when ever I want though.) Now I'm going to order that kit!! Nice work on that one!

I own two of these bikes; 1999 and 2001. Incredible machines. But the one in the video is awesome! Love it!

1985 XR-350 and actually won the Maryland state championship in open A on it ! Bet he would've loved racing this XR-400 but then again i would've too ! Very nice bike 👍
In a heartbeat i WOULD take an '85 XR350 over any XR400 !! The '85 350 is a holy grail offering from Honda.

@@clintonlied Don't get me wrong Leopold, the XR400 is a great machine, i just think the XR350 'absolutely Blows' it away in looks. I still have all my old Dirtbike magazines from the 80-90's, and every couple yrs the would always have 'Top 10 Bikes', and the 85 XR350 was always in it..the bike just screams 'sexy to me, and even though i like the 1985 XR600 the best, the 350 was actually faster on the trail than it. Got to love the xr4! They also look great with a newer (07ish) crf 450 front fender, and fork guards from 97 ktm 250 exc. They don't make the style fork guards for the xr4 any more. A little trimming required

I purchased this moto the first year they came out. As California started outlawing 2 strokes.
Super reliable. But was built to replace the the cr 250 …. I dumped it after a year.

Hey, have you guys looked into Steel-It finish products? Honda Off-road Racing apparently uses their stainless steel impregnated polyurethane spray. I can't imagine you don't know about Steel-It. I look at Steel-It more like high end equipment, than paint. Superior finishes, especially for frames. (stainless steel or black) I would bet the folks at Steel-It will love your business, and you'll love their products. Stainless steel and polyurethane coated frame? Yes please! if you get a frame crack, weld it at the truck, hit it with a spray of Steel-It, and you're fixed, and re-finished. You can weld right through Steel-It, and you don't prime bare steel, before finishing with Steel-It either. Amazing stuff, dude!

Are those stock forks? I actually had one of these but unfortunately I got rid of it and now I have an xr650l. Is that what the 650l forks look like under the rubber boots? Can you tell me why they use the boots? Not that I don't like my 650 but I wish I kept my 400.
