Rebuilding your forks with new oil and seals can seem like an intimidating task, but learning how to do the job correctly by yourself can save you time and money compared to taking it to a shop. The Showa SFF-Air TAC forks can be found on 2015-2018 Kawasaki KX450F's, 2015-2017 Suzuki RMZ450's, and 2015-2017 Honda CRF250R's. In this video, Charles shows how to rebuild Showa SFF TAC forks off a Kawasaki KX450F with new suspension fluid and seals.

Thank you for doing this video. I’ve got a 17 kx450f and looking at changing all the oil for the first time so really lucky you put this video up a day ago. I
You guys do an awesome job at Rocky Mountain. From product reviews for basically everything u sell to these how to videos. Really awesome. I just rebuilt my forks on 2015 kx450f, referencing this video. You did not miss a single step, thanks again pal!
Thank you. That was my first attempt at fork seals and it was a success. 2016 Suzuki RMZ450.
Awesome! Nice job.
Great instructional video. Just bought all the seals, bushing and o rings to fully service mine. Bought all my parts from Rocky Mountain. Glad you guys finally did a video on these forks. Now you need to make a video on the rear shock of the 2015 KX450. There is no standard valve on the nitrogen cap. It has a little whole that you use a needle (football inflator) to release all the nitrogen. Again thanks for the great video.
Greetings from Australia, just found this video 2 weeks ago and now going to attempt it in the morning. You guys make it look so easy, thanks again.
Charles, you always do such a great job clearly explaining the steps in these maintenance videos!
Glad you like them!
It has been surprisingly hard to find correct information about the tac fork, thank you so much for your clearly explained and accurate video. cheers from Australia
i love my honda unicam!!!! but this sff fork set up is intimidating to set up. thanks for the video! good job 👍 !
Thank you!
Left my forks compressed in the bed of my truck over night. Come outside today and fluid sitting under them. Can't say I didn't expect it though. I already knew they were blown.
Would say one thing I found, press the dust seal on with the seal driver as well (if you have the one he does it goes around the lip and is clear of causing damage to seal). Tried pushing it on like he does and it made my top bushing push into the threads of the outter tube and damaged the Teflon coating... also, make sure you are checking your manual as he says for oil spec. My 18 kx450f forks are not the same as he says. Thanks for the video, cost the same for tools and parts as it does to have someone else do it once.
Can you share your oil levels? I'm working on a 2018 kx450f now and I feel the volumes are different as well.
hello how much pressure to pump into the fork bar? weight 85 kg
Can i use whatever grease?
Like the one i use for my bike?,
Hi, I have a problem with the front suspension, I know that you take care of everything, it's about sff air, I changed the seals and the air from the inner chamber is leaking out during pumping 😤 you have any idea if so, I will be grateful 🙏🙏
Can you remove the rod from the inner chamber?
Why 100ml in the inner air fork chamber my 2017 kx450f only calls for 20ml
I know shorter way. Take out the air cartridge and put Öhlins cartridge.
I spent lots of money on the sff and put skf glide kit. After the 10mth oil was cumulatinf in balance chamber. Happens twice co I put the internals in the garbage and bought ohlins.
I love your video... I need help for my 2018 kx450f sff tac fork.. my inner chamber air leaks going to outer air chamber .. how to repair this and parts needed.. thank you in advance..more power AtvMc
Check all the o-rings really close. I would just replace them, this is the only fix for that besides replacing the complete air chamber. It could be the balance chamber or the main chamber leaking to the outer chamber. Sounds like you already narrowed it down, but just in case, which chamber is loosing pressure and adding it to the outer? That should let you know what o-rings are bad. But...before you replace the o-rings, check the main chamber on the bench, pump it up to spec and spray some soapy water around that lower seal and check for bubbles. If that lower seal is bad, you will have to replace that chamber as a unit. I hope this helps-Charles
thanks for the video. my balance and outer wont hold any air anymore lol
What are the exact tools and sizes done need to do this job? The video really helps and definitely want to learn this.
The first link in the description will take you to a page with all the parts and tools used in this video. Some of the tools may be different size depending on your specific bike but if you just enter your machine's year, make and model when on our website, you will get the correct size.
@@rmatvmc Thank you so much
Is the air side going to feel stiffer than the other fork off the bike?
Yes that's normal . -Charles
Does the other fork of the bike require a spring?
CRF 450shok absorber
Why is it 100ml oil on inner and manual said 30ml?
Hi, great question. We talked about this at the beginning of the video, but always go with the specs in the manual for your bike. The Kawasaki manual for the 2015 KX450F does specify 100ml. But like we said, the capacities will vary from bike to bike. -Charles
Chamber cap will not come out any tips
Even with pressing the fork up like we did? I would just make sure it's super clean around the circlip groove, no burrs or anything, then you might have to try pumping a little air in the cap with the suspension pump. -Charles
Who's the jackhole that gave this a thumbs down? I always wonder about these people...
There is always "that" guy on every video - Chase
These were such a terrible idea
