“There are meant to be 12” of travel... to try and utilize the maximum amount of that stroke” something I’ve never heard and excellent advice to keep in mind when setting suspension!
Amazing!!!!!!! This video was very helpful. Up until today my suspension has been very harsh feeling. This video was super helpful and now my suspension is smooth like butter. Keep up the good work
Only using half of the travel on my 2022 WR450 with compression and rebound all the way out. I'm in pain for days after a days trail riding. Already tried bleeding the air and straightening the forks. Next step is a softer spring, re-valve and lighter oil but I'm dreading doing it myself.
From my experience: I go a long time between maintenance too. My 2002 Yamaha YZ250 (2 stroke) keeps going! BUT when I do tear it down and go through everything it really does run and handle better. So I’m happy it just runs no matter... but I should give it more TLC as it pays me back for my effort. I am for the first time buying a new bike.... I deserve it! 2021 YZ250FX should have it in May depending on Yamaha. This is also my first 4 stroke!
On a 2019 WP AER 48's I was a Comfort level 17/17 clicks... I put to Standard today. Which is 12/12 clicks. I don't race, but Enduro ride the 300XC on over logs and trails, cornering ect... Im 198lbs. Would you suggest I do the Rebound to 15? So its 12 Compression and 15 Rebound so the front forks Rebound quicker back out? Your input would be great. Thanks
Just had my fork seals serviced and now my forks don't extend fully or rebound all they way out. Is this a rebound adjustment? It's on a 2015 kx450 1 side is air fork other is compression. Would appreciate any help thanks
Is that normal to have 465mm springs in a fork that should have 485mm??? I just change oil and seal on my fork and I realize that the guy who have rebuild my fork have put spring too short, If I refer to manual and fork spring catalogue I find online, the spring look to be for a 2014 300 XC KTM where I think they put the 4CS on, my 2012 have the `closed chamber` forks and the 485mm one! Thank you
Hello I have been scouring the interent the tuning mechnism on my left fork seems to be broke i hear clicks but it never get stiffer no matter which way i turn i can turn it indefinitely was not always like this the right one
I wanna know how much it should compress over a jump.... I hit a 30 footer step up landing on relatively flat ground, and the wheel is like 2-3 inches away from the fender.... I weigh 130 and it’s an 04 kx 125..... I know it’s meant to use all the travel, it just feels like it compresses to much for a not to big jump
It depends if the fork has a high speed and low-speed adjuster, or just a standard compression adjuster. If it's just a compression adjuster, it adjusts both in a sense but if it has separate labeled ones, they effect what they're labeled to.
Don't be scared to tweak your suspension with the clicks and stuff You bikes manual usually will have instructions to reset to what the book may call the "stock setting" that your forks have when built straight outta the factory It will feel exactly like it did the day you first tried it
I only use half of my travel no matter what i do. Even with the compression all the way out. I've changed the oil, bushings and seals. I even removed a shim. I can't figure out why. I've been messing with it since i got it.
john Franklin what’s the model? Oil height and are you torquing the triple clamp bolts to the OEM specs? If the lower clamp is too tight, it’ll restrict the movement of the fork.
@@vitalmx it's a 2002 yz250 with kayaba 46mm forks. 80- 150 with the standard oil level at 135. I have it at about 140 right now. It had more oil, but i took some out. It had 10wt, but i changed it to 5wt. I don't remember the torque specs, but I've taken them off a dozen times. I just tighten them to how tight i know they were torqued at before. I don't over tighten though. I took out the cartridge. I couldn't find the info or any videos on how to open the cartridge though, and i didn't want to mess it up. All of the o rings and rubber that i did see looked they were in good condition though. Both forks worked the exact same. The only difference is that one has a bit of stiction at a certain point in the down stroke. The spring isn't marked, but my manual says the standard spring has no markings. I'm at the top of the weight bracket for the standard springs.
unscrew cap and drain oil. Then stuff the fork with foam from a pillow or mattress and screw cap back on. You need to test it and then add more foam or remove. If you require harder forks than how they are with oil, thenyou can add the foam to the oil. I suggest you stick with the manufacturers foam for the bike you are on. Yamaspounge is excellent for YZ. Just ask your local bike dealer
@@privateperson299 Does the type of feathers in the pillow make a difference, I think they use duck down in the Yami ZY, which allows for less oil travel as opposed to chicken feathers. Let me sleep on it.....
I am on a yz250f My friend and i where messing with the suspention and i think we went uneven amount of clicks on the suspention. How to i make sure the hardness and softness is equal on suspenion?
@@kylejohnson9510 The Dude said screw the adjuster in until it reach's its limit (the End). then back it out and count the clicks. Do this on each side you will have even Firmness. Best of Luck.

@@mxgryan Cry in your mothers lap, better try and afford a bike and learning standard shit every pro uses, then you can talk to me. Oh and take that stick out of your ass, it may get stuck if you keep it in too long.
Too simply explained. There is a high and low speed compression valves. If low speed is too fast, a screw gives you only high speed harshness, but do nothing or little effect with low speed bottoming out on jumps and whoops. In that case you need add some shims to low speed compression valve. Also an oil level plays major role with bottoming. Stiffer spring and lower oil level also gives a plushier mid stroke feeling.

So is the compression adjustment on a fork adjusting high speed or low speed compression or does that concept even apply to forks?
