Owned all 3 so here I go. BTW the last 2 versions are free and non commercial downloads.
Definitely the NES. Wish they would have made the original Donkey Long with this arcade quality.
The C64 version is a really good homebrew. Makes good use of its hardware and great level design. The color palette is limited but doesn’t suffer much from that restriction.
Of course the windows version looks better because it’s newer. Not a real fan of the gameplay. Just doesn’t feel like playing the original arcade game like the other 2 versions.

I think it's just Luigi helping Mario.
It’s because in the arcade version there is a scene where two Mario’s lift up donkey Kong maybe that’s why

The commodore 64 version is the best by far
It stretches hardware limitations miles ahead of the other versions. It really plays well also. I’ve seen some really good arcade homebrews for the C64. Especially after this port was made. But this port still impresses me more than anything else.
