Great comparison. I do hard use my case knives. They hold up very well

I think the Case is just a “pretty boy” for show. When it comes down to actually getting to work, the Buck is sharp right outta the box and ready to go. The dull blades on the new Case knives have become a common nuisance with that brand. Virtually all of the new Case knives I’ve bought in the last year (several) have required sharpening, whereas 99% of my new Bucks were razor sharp. “Pretty”doesn’t get the job done. Just my 2-cents worth…

That was a good comparison, I think. I like the 301 better, like my Stockmans a little bigger. They both have held up great for me, and they've done a lot work. The Stockman has always been my favorite pattern. Cool video John.👍👍🇺🇲🇺🇲

I’ve never found a buck like that but my whole life everyone around here always says case it the best pocket knife. Heard it my whole entire life. Buck ain’t bad tho , need to get the 2 USA made stockmans for my collection. Thanks for the video John!

Great video. My pick is the Buck. Reason I like the placement of their sheepsfoot blade location, slightly better heat treat of the 420HC steel. I picked up a 301 with Rosewood scales and lots of brass. Honestly it's too nice to EDC and use it to harvest morel mushrooms in the spring and mostly a shelf queen , that being said. My current EDC is a yellow delron Sodbuster Jr. 😉

I have the buck 301 in Rosewood. It's a beautiful knife. I collect case knives but I still have a liking for buck knives too. Excellent video though! I used your knife oil yesterday for the first time. It smells like cloves lol. I like it!

My Buck 301 has been a solid work knife for me since I found one at a knife show. The knife looks as good today as it did when knew.
I recently acquired a few CASE models, the ‘47 is a great size. The ‘75 is more a working knife. A SS is dressier, but my. CS is a worker, and takes an edge much better than SS.
Strange the Buck 420HC always takes and hold an edge the best. Both good, but if I am going to select one to go into back country or farm work, the Buck 301 gets the call.

The difference between a Case knife from a Buck knife is like comparing a Craftsman wrench to a Snap-on wrench. Buck is a fixed blade company that makes traditional pattern pocket knives as an afterthought.
The burr left on a Case Blade is normal, it tells you it is not been used. No pocket knife is truly yours until you sharpen it. It only takes a few seconds to remove the burr and expose a good cutting edge.
When buying a new car you have to set the mirrors and adjust the seat to fit your liking too. Case marks their knives with date of manufacture, steel type, model and box them wrapped in protective paper the old fashion way.
Case provides choices in blade materials, cover materials, sizes and blade selections. They also do not outsource their traditional pocket knives from China either.👍

I only have a couple of BUCK knives in my collection because I much prefer a CASE XX.I sharpen every knife when I purchase it no matter the brand or how it comes out of the package and a New BUCK is usually sharper when New but CASE XX is a far better looking knife and they feel better in my hands and they do the job that I need from them.I’ll give a couple of BUCK Knives for one CASE XX any day of the week.👏❤️🇺🇸

The Case is one purdy knife. It’s a shame they don’t take the time to sharpen them like they do rounding the edges of the blade. Have you ever carved anything else after the bear? Do you ever think about getting back into carving?

    • @JohnKlahr
      @JohnKlahr  Před 16 dny +1

@@johnshifflett1722 I did a duck after that but unfortunately sanded it really smooth and took all the character out of it. I like the bear because you can still tell it was carved with a knife

When it comes to Slipjoints Case wins , but when it comes to lockbacks and belt knives Buck definitely wins.
There was a time when Buck could hold their own with slipjoints, but those days are long gone.
The snap on their slipjoints is pretty weak these days, and their hollow Saber grind isn't as good as the full hollow grind Case uses.
Back in the 90's the full flat grind buck used was so much better.
The 420HC from Buck is better than the Tru Sharp from Case, but it's hard to beat the carbon steel from Case when they offer it on a knife you want in a cover option you want.
The elk stag from the Buck custom shop is nicer than any stag Case offers too.
