The big difference is the task each multitool was intenten for, Victorinox is intended as a knife mainly, pliers are secondary tool, instead of Leatherman is intended mainly as a pliers, so there is to see what is your need to make the best decision, comparing the Surge, it would be with a Swisstool ,that would be the winner

That is a craftsman, one of my favourites, I also have the master craftsman which doesn’t have the pliers.
To be honest, the Workchamp XL is a novelty knife for collectors. You'd be better off using your Surge or the normal Workchamp. It's a nice knife, it's just that it's way too thick to hold.

Because of the width i always thought the Swisschamp, workchamp ect. (so the really big ones with "everything" on it) were for collectors mainly.
As a competitor of the Leathermans i would see the Swisstool.
Sure Leatherman has improoved in the way of replacable saws and cutting surfaces inside the pliers.
And you can open several tools with one hand.
The quality feel of Victorinox they still don't reach.
I have 2 Leatherman Charge ALx and 1 Swistool but i don'T remember the model, it has a bit set + an angles bitdriver. Like with allen keys you have a short and long side where you can put normal bits.
Leatherman on the other hand offer a ratched which is great. But the normal bitholders on Leathermans need specific leatherman bits.
(One charge lives in one car, the Swisstool in the other, and one Charge lives in my backpack for work. And a Vic Sportsman lives in my trouser pocket ;-) )
A lot of people EDC the Swisschamp, also the Cybertool L which is about the same width. They are even suitable for pocket carry, my Swisschamp fits into the coin pocket of my jeans no problem. But because of the width it's not the best if you have a lot of cutting or sawing tasks to do. It's more of a carry to cover multiple needs which may or may not arise. For example if I'm going camping and know that I will need to do some sawing and cutting, I'll take my Farmer which is more comfortable to use for those tasks. For office work my Climber. Some people will carry a slimmer model in their pocket e.g. Tinker or Climber, and have the Champ in their bag for unexpected jobs.
There are even larger models than the Swisschamp like the XLT, those are definitely more for collectors.
A SwissChamp XLT is about the max thickness you can have without sacrificing function (only 3 layers thicker than SwissChamp, but two of those are thin layers). Everything past it is a collectors item.
I EDC a SwissChamp and I even carry it in shorts in the summer without a suspension clip. It doesn't bother me. When I first got it as a gift I thought it would go to waste because it was too thick to use, but my opinion has changed. I gave my Climber to a friend and I EDC the SC full time. It's definitely not a collector's item.
The current version of the Woorkchamp XL uses a liner lock, which makes the caplifter lockable too, making it a great, small prytool. Additional, the current Workchamp does include the belt cutter from the 111m Rescue knife.
My daily EDC is a cybertool, most used tools are the scissors (surprise :D) and the pliers (as a heavy duty tweezer)

I think you should have compared the surge and the swisstool rs. Potatoes with potatoes
They shoukd of kept the craftsman renamed it the handyman and got rid of the handyman.
#1 reason what handyman needs a corkscrew theyd more less need a quick tough phillips to finish work sround the house or change blades or bits on tools etc etc.
I think both knives are stupid. SwissChamp is a bit thicker and has an inline phillips. Don't use the T phillips for a lot of torque, you will bend the aluminum liners. if you're using it just to loosen moderately tightly screws which you finish with the can opener, it's somewhat useful. otherwise most people would prefer a corkscrew.
personally i have a fieldmaster and a swisschamp in my rotation so i can swap them out depending on what im doing
i think the best thing to do is to choose both and have a phillips model and a corkscrew model in your rotation
if the t phillips has space it really shines
I have 2 Handymans, and this is not a Handyman. I think yours is a Craftsman, which is not produced anymore.
