I've been fostering a "tough dog" for a few months now, who was scheduled for the needle at a local shelter. Every day he gets a little better, and so every day proves that he can grow to be a safe choice for a permanent home. Most dogs, alas unlike most humans, have the potential to transform themselves even late in life. But they need a chance for that.
This dog is a reflection of this lady love and persistence.
Yes that lady really loves gang colors. And then she is surprised the dogs bite each other when they are wearing rival gang colors.

Pitbulls will do whatever their owners want. They want to make them happy. They are the safest dogs to have for a family as long as they were treated lovingly as a puppy. I am not a dog person but have had several while married. So I learned how to train them. Had them on a farm with animals loose on our 10 acres. Slept with our cats. So I am glad they are getting the recognition they deserve as a loving family dog. They are like most animals if you are violent with them they will be violent too. Depends on the people.

I think the commentor was referring to the title of the video, and she did show some aggression by biting the foster moms dog. I get it was AGRESSION from being scared, but still aggression, she did get comfortable and the AGRESSION went away, but it's still something to let someone know who wants to adopt her.

We rescued a dog and on the second day having her my husband went to pet her and she bit him. What we learned is she was abused and beaten buy the previous owner. Fast fwd to four years, we still have her and she is no longer afraid of men and she has not bitten any other men. She is an amazing dog.

What a beautiful baby girl. You can see her scars inside and out. She has been through so much at the hands of humans and other dogs and still learns to move forward and love again. We could learn a lot from animals.

Many people would have been too afraid to take in that type of dog in the first place, yet this woman jumped right in to help this dog, & didn't give up- even after he bit her own doggo. Many would have thrown in the towel & returned the dog. Thank God there are people out there with good hearts & the means to do this fostering work. And it is work. I wish I were in a position to help these animals myself. I'm grateful to those who can help. At best I donate to worthy organizations when I'm able. And I pour lots of love on the kitty I've had for 9 years. He's a rescue that had been dumped while still in his mama's belly. Mama cat gave birth to the litter just a few hours after being found on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. A relative's young daughter found her & brought her home (her mom was NOT thrilled). They quickly realized the cat was very pregnant & set her up with a cozy, safe spot to have her little family. By the next morning, there were 6 healthy, adorable kittens next to mama cat. My Rusty was the smallest one. He's now a 17lb, very floofy orange guy, & he rules the roost.

@@screenPhiles well the issue is that a lot of ignorant people think aggression is just the animal being violent for no reason so they don't actually try to deal with the root cause. And yes, some animals are just aggressive by nature but not nearly as many as those that simply get labeled "aggressive" for being anxious.

You foster parents are absolutely amazing and so wonderful! Dogs are so forgiving and wanting a loving family. Pitties are so amazing. Yes, I have one given to us at 5 weeks old. She was the runt and the owner of the siblings gave her to us because he was afraid she could be a bait dog. Our daughter was the one who spent time talking to him about her own experience raising a pit and wanting to give her dad one as a birthday present. Coco is now 6 and the love of his life.

I adopted an abused dog 3 years ago. She was close to death when I got her. I had to syringe turkey baby food mixed with water at first as she wouldn't eat. Now she is happy and whole and healthy 3 years later. It was so humbling to see what love, patience and consistency can do. Pets are so innocent and vulnerable to abuse as they can't advocate for themselves or escape a dangerous situation. I'm so grateful for people like this who aren't afraid to go the extra mile for an innocent animal.

We are all, largely, molded by our environment and life experiences. Sadly, many animals and kids are abused. And the world sees the the resultant product - dangerous behavior. Kids get locked up. Animals get put down. Through love and devotion, many of these lives can be saved, like Cochi's.

This is a good story to see because I get the feeling many of the stories on The Dodo that appear really smooth and effortless really aren't. Sometimes these dogs are difficult, even threatening and it's good to see that. I'm glad it worked out but sometimes I imagine it doesn't.

I would love to be able to help at a shelter or foster but I have had a lot of medical problems since 2014 that prevents it. I still have my four chi’s that I had gotten in 2010 after the loss of a pair of chi’s who we had for 17 hrs. Teddy & Newton. As you know when we lose one of our furry family members it’s just as hard as losing a human. Teddy & Newton grew up with my boys and we all had such a terrible 2010 when we lost them both. Teddy had medical probs and after pleading n trying everything the vet could try for two weeks. The vet helped me realize I was holding onto her (Teddy) for myself and I had to do what was best for Teddy. Poor thing was in pain and miserable n would just lay in my lap and look at me with her big brown eyes. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do to have her euthanized. Then only four months later we lost our little boy Newton. My husband would always say “That dog loves you so much”. He was my shadow. He passed curled up next to me in bed. I cuddled him and told him it was ok to let go and he did. I love to imagine them meeting up again across that rainbow bridge and someday we will see them both again. 💜 Once again bravo to all of you that help animals in need. Thank you 💜

The dog she had once seen as a threat” I cry imagine if she had given up on her like most would as soon as she bit her other dog...This goes to show to please not give up on that animal you rescued/adopted/fostered. With lots (LOTS) of patience and loving kindness (and training!) they truly do heal.

I can tell from her wounds what has happened to her. I've seen them before. She has every right to never trust again.
But, to see her big beautiful goofy sharkheaded smile, a butt wiggle that'd make Shakira proud, a tail wag so strong that could propel her into space, and the love behind those eyes, is the best thing in the world. It's not easy looking after abused dogs, but please give them time. They're more worthwhile than you'll ever know. Thank you.

But like ANY dog, when they are afraid and insecure, they lash out. And like any breed, you give them the time, patience, love and respect animals deserve when we get one of them, they show their true colors. I have yet to witness a vicious pittie and I have met a lot of them. But I haven't met any from a family who either ignored them, didn't socialize them or trained them to be mean. Those are the people who should face lawful penalties for abuse.Thank you again for providing Cochi a place to flourish.
