Rod my friend I hate to disappoint you but as a farmer I must tell you my experience of almost 20 years here in America as an Orthodox Christian farmer. The most accurate thing that you have said in this presentation is that we are going to have to suffer greatly before we actually form communities and resist together this corrupt culture. It will take extremes such as people knocking on your door wanting to enlighten your children of the physical pleasures of perversion, backed by government warrant to do so.
I have lived the most idyllic Orthodox farming family life that you can imagine. For more than 18 years I've homeschooled my children on the farm living amongst the Amish and the Mennonites working together and going to liturgy at an Orthodox Monastery not far from my house. And in this time I've had many many Orthodox people come and stay at my house and dream of living as I have and never ever has one actually moved and taken up the community life, farming Life.
When my children got cars and the internet they departed into darkness. To describe the darkness of this culture I must say that I've noticed that many people who have lived under Islam for centuries and kept the faith have moved to this country and in one generation lost their children. So good luck my friend, good luck no one's listening no one's more importantly acting.

      So sorry to hear this....
Your children will return to the mountain you raised them on... might be when they are older
But seeds that were planted God will watch over them....

@P G my kids are young
I lament raising them in this world....
Oh how I worry they will become of the world later on.....
But I know how God always looks for me when I've been lost... I have to trust he'll do the same for my children

Of course this makes total sense. In the1930's, Dietrich Bonhoeffer spoke of the need to live in the world while always choosing God, no compromises. I believe this came to be known as 'new monasticism'.

The center of orthodox life and the only legitimate community for the purpose described in the video is the orthodox parish or/and any number of monasteries all over each country of reference, around 1,2 or more priests (around an elder, for the monasteries) taking care of the spiritual needs of the flock, under 1 local bishop and all Diocheses under 1 archbishop and his Holy Synod. This is actually the earthly Church and this is our guide for discernment in our path to salvation. This is THE proven pattern throughout the church history. Any other inveted scheme (I am sure it stems from a pure and honest good disposition) will not do and leads to self-rightious groups and schisms. So, the solution to an ancient problem (secularization, idolatry) is already at hand. In Greece, where I live, it is a trusted and prooven method/life/experience. Good bless!

Exactly right. We don't need another website. We don't need the heterodox "in community" working against the Orthodox faith of our children. Mr Dreher is so Western, sounds so reasonable. That is a sure way to lose Orthodoxy.

Spot on! The standard practice of Orthodox parish-diocesan-archdiocesan life is catholic (sufficient, universally valid) to all spiritual needs of believers. Dreher is NOT an intellectual, nor a theorist of culture, nor a wise critic deeply rooted in any loved experience of healthy life. He is a wounded neurotic fixated on an ideology opposite Orthodox tradition, desperately defending a idol of morality that draws away from the mainstream in self-preservation, deeming the world irredeemable. This borders on dualism and dovetails neatly with Putin-Gundiaev muh-apocalyptic propaganda for mass atrocity in its current war of genocidal aggression against Ukraine.
Dreher has divorced his wife, left his children and now lives as a bachelor in Viktor Orban’s Budapest, working as a cultural ambassador for the pro-Putin antidemocratic Fidesz party. Do not be deceived by Dreher’s pathetic portrayal of himself as a pious Orthodox Christian with good advice for laypeople or even clergy. Dreher is spiritually and emotionally ill and like a drowning man, will pull down anyone within arm’s reach as he drowns in his politicized pseudoreligious delusions. Avoid this person like the plague!

I am a Penecostal protestant investigating orthodoxy, and I’m liking what I hear but you are a different breed. It seems everybody else that I’ve heard seems to say that evangelical or protestant are saved if they are saved at all. How do I respond to this?
And also you’re in Baton Rouge so I’m sure you’ve heard of Jimmy Swaggart what is his affect on the city of Baton Rouge

    What chaotic situation? “Sin?”
And shouldn’t we ask just two questions to everyone that answers when we do an “alter call?”
    1. Have you EVER blasphemed the Holy Spirit?
And if they make it that far, I always feel move by the Holy Spirit to then ask,
    2. Are you submitting to the Lord this day by taking “Pascal’s Wager?”
I can’t count how many people have NO IDEA why there standing in front of me at the alter?! Crazy!

Compare Rod’s personal conduct (look it up) to his preaching in the first 20 seconds of this. When he was put to the test, not only did he not choose martyrdom (in this case, remaining in a bad marriage), he did not even choose the Lord (he abandoned his family). He is a fraud and a hypocrite. Shameful to promote him.

Sounds great but I don't think it's realistic.jesus said he would build his church if were in the wilderness or in a place of suffering or loneliness because of our faith this is our cross we have to bear , I do not adhere to any denomination but also find many denominations are separated for very good reasons.the bible teaches what it teaches men make up doctrine.

Dreher is not a wise man. He is a broken and desperate person lacking basic understanding of the role of Church in society, doing what he does best, making controversy. No serious person can overlook the paranoia and sectarian dualism that drives his self-promotion. I hope Chad Hatfield lives to regret having disgraced the Schmemann podium with this trifling controversialist’s blather.

He tries too hard to guide others, when it is clear he struggles (like many of us) to govern himself. Benedict Option is amateurish, while Live Not by Lies and his Dante book (less the personal drama) are quite good.
