I can't believe the cult legacy church is allowed to advertise on this video
Beautifully stated. Anyone can understand this. Now they only have to choose to do it - which is, of course, always the difficult part 🙏🏻
Oh, I do agree in the one step after another and discipline we are a Tryon likeness of god. In other words not just body, soul and spirit although that’s true we have a brain we have emotions and we have either the spirit of the world or the spirit of God in us Scripture says test the spirits. Obviously that means there are two types. At least Jesus wept when Lazarus had passed away, and he raised him from the dead proving emotions do occur in the Godhead, and again likeness of God means we have emotions as well, throwing them away after you get saved is it logical at best , allowing for all three parts of us to be united and function in balance for gnostics only wanted to use the brain only scripture sola Scriptura like the Pharisees and that was a heresy. Then it is a heresy. Now your relationship must be balanced, and you will have goosebumps on occasion , so don’t reject them all together until you prayed. It’s not God in that situation. Otherwise are great video.
Sexism is a modernist term and not how any Christian should define their morals or faith. The Bible and Tradition are very clear on women’s roles and if people have a problem with that they can take their chances outside the church
It should mean we’re not active in politics. Dividing our energies between the aspirations of heaven the sublunary grope for power over others (the state) is misguided at best.
people place their hope in politicians for societal change not realising its only temporary, empires rise and fall, kingdoms collapse, the kingdom of heaven and its king Christ are eternal
I miss him. Sadly I got to know of him after his passing. Memory eternal Papa ❤ i sometimes call on him for help even if he's not confirmed as a saint and i received the helpful wisdom i needed.

Orthodox seems to be more pragmatic

I saw a toddler go behind the couch to have a bm i thought if he could do that he could be potty trained
This seems to be doctrinal acrobatics on baptism. Would not it be simpler to just baptize everyone? No, EO is simply a part of the Christian Church. The claims of utter exclusivity never stand up to Biblical or Historical scrutiny. Mark 9:38-50
Nuns IN the altar? I only heard of nuns entering the altar for the sole purpose of cleaning it, never for serving alongside the priest.
It's different in monasteries. There's only women there.
Quite common
Yes. The Abbess blesses nuns to serve in the altar. In fact, the priest has to receive the abbess’ blessing to serve in the monastery.
I'd like to point out the difference in how Orthodox vs Catholic church handles this type of thing. Orth can maintain the strict regulation, but via economia can permit a localized exception. Rome would need to establish a new canon granting the blanket permission, which would over time become a norm. For example, girl altarboys, lay ministers of communion, and on and on. In Orth. the authority is maintained more thru tradition. "That's how we do it." In Rome, authority must be maintained via the letter of the law. "The Pope sez we can now ______."
Of course, nuns can do this. These are the same actions of altar boys and altar girls. And deacons, if you are lucky enough to have them.
What does Fr. Stepjen mean by the following statement made at the 8 minute mark?, " We've been nursing since we were porpoises." ????
i never believed in myself until i believed in God
A very interesting take on an issue I myself face. I am being instructed as a catechumen right now - and in a Bavarian area that is overwhelming Roman Catholic and a 200 mile round trip to an Orthodox parish for Divine Litergy isnt easy. Though being here, I grew up as a Mormon. A lot disagree on the LDS even being Christian in that, in fundamental ways such as the rejection of the ecumenical councils and creeds, they certainly are not Orthodox. My baptism is a mish-mash quite frankly of yes and no. For those who do not know - LDS baptism is full immersion a single time and done "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." But Mormons are not trinitarian and not monotheistic - so is that baptism done in the name of the Holy Trinity or not as they use the words but mean something quite different. I have to have faith and trust that my priest and the bishop know what is best to do and have faith that, even if there is some error if they choose to receive me not through Orthodox Baptism, that it is the proper thing to do and that God will accept that intent. It has taken 40 years for me to come to this since my first passing talk online with a Greek Orthodox priest in 1994 when I was a teenager discussion religion. I do trust that God is more merciful to us than we are to each other many times. I often think that he chuckles at us as we argue, with good intentions, but argue much as boys argue over some game as a good parent often does. At any rate, I would prefer reception by baptism. But I have to trust those who are placed to shepherd me and who understand more than me and to not fall into the trap of over-legalism.
Not when our greatest example of being a Christian is the most pure, most blessed and glorious Lady Theotokos.
I love our Lady but I don't think it is proof that one is not sexist. Worship of Greek goddesses didn't make life better for women in Ancient Greece for instance. You can honour the Theotokos and still see ordinary women as inferior to men. Christianity is not sexist but there are sexist Christians who use religion to justify the subjugation and mistreatment of women
While I wholeheartedly agree with Dr Ford's view of Orthodoxy, her answer to the question comes from a position which fails to take into account how local customs and cultures directly affect the practice of faith. Is Orthodox sexist? No, or at least as Dr Ford rightly points out the question itself is erroneous. Can local customs/traditions (with a small t) be sexist and therefore affect one's interpretation of orthodoxy? Absolutely.
??? What local customs or traditions are sexist?
I grew up an orthodox in a traditional village from Eastern Europe and i cannot recount one instance of "sexism". Not one.
As a female catechumen, this matches what I've experienced so far. I'm blessed to be part of a parish that has this regard for the laity. There is so much power in prayer! ☦️

"We are all on a journey." It cannot be said any better.
Thanks
Thanks so much for your generosity! 🙏🏻
No way, Lord have mercy.
That great depends on whose definition of ‘sexist’ one is going with. By modern definition, certainly. But the modern definition of sexism towards women isn’t worth the time of day.
Once I found the church, I jumped into it completely. I did not slow down. I tried to drink from the fire hose 😂 I don’t think I could have followed this advise because I was so full of zeal. The precious pearl I had searched for all my life was before me and I had to get it. However I do know many people that had to take it in bite sizes.

Lord Palmerston and British created 'greece' in 1832 for geopolitical purposew, southern cyprus is UK territory
Same thing happened to Macedonia in 1913, the capital Solun and agean part was given to British creation of greece, the Macedonians were forced to change their names to greek, speak only greek, relabelled all ancient Macedonian monasteries as greek. The eastern part Pirin, same thing given to bulgaristan, another western minion controlled then by the British now USA
Christ is king! America first!
Become God, yes my mind is blown, i dont understand what he meant by that.
This doesn't inform anything ive heard some self descriptions of Orthodox Christians. Jonathan is great at saying nothing
So… what should we know ?
Attend as many services as you can, vespers, Divine liturgies, and during lent, the canons. There are also lots of good youtube videos to watch about the Orthodox faith. There is a lot of fasting, standing during liturgy and the liturgies are usually 2 hours long, at least.
@@Marilynlovesebiking Thanks. I've been watching a lot of videos like you suggest. I hope to attend one of the two Churches in my area soon.
Can anyone point to Cain and his Sister? Someone at Church is asking and I've NO idea
Zen practice leads to the non-dual or emptiness. But there's no sense of a creator. The Orthodox tradition seems to carry a mystical core which gives the faith experience validity.
What is a prayer rule?
Prayers that you say every day. Most people pray the morning and evening prayers, prayers before and after meals, and prayers before and after communion.
@@ellemnop123how can i find one that’s right for me?
@@Christ_is_Merciful speak to your local Orthodox priest.
@@Christ_is_Merciful What's your life like day to day? You should own a copy of an Orthodox Christian prayer book and faithfully recite morning and evening prayers each day, plus prayers before and after meals and communion. Do you have a prayer book? OCA prints a nice one
@@Christ_is_Merciful I hear from everyone, online and from my local priest, to ask your spiritual father. If it helps, I asked for myself and was told to try the Lord’s Prayer 5 times a day. I’m weak enough to not even be able to do that.

Execise in endurance? Aren't Monks considered Spiritual Athletes?
One of the reasons why people don't understand nor want to be part of Orthodoxy. It's set up like a protestant church right now. What's worse is the lack of evangelization. This "come and see" attitude will kill Orthodoxy in a culture that believes in evangelizing. No one wants an American Orthodoxy because everyone will fight over who's the patriarch. This is why people choose Catholicism over Orthodoxy. Everyone understands who's the Bishop there.
So do you have to rely on your own good works to be saved?
I'm not sure *any* technology is inherently good or bad... Let's not forget the reception given to the Gutenberg Press
That long pause on Endurance... heavy.
Can anyone point me to the source from Fr Zachariah of Essex that Fr Freeman is referring to? Relating to the true meaning of John 2:4
There are three levels of existence: the physical, the psychological and the spiritual. From the physical to the spiritual, the distance is the same in all people, but in women the middle level is a bit higher than for men, that is why sometimes women confuse psychological states with spiritual states. It is more difficult for men to confuse the two, but they are more vulnerable on the physical level. Women can stay longer on the psychological level, whereas men cannot; they fall too quickly on the carnal level. We priests specially must know that and always be on our guard. The distance between the ordinary level of life as we all live it, and the level of sanctification is the same for both male and female, but the distances between the three levels - physical, psychological and spiritual - is different in men and women. Fr. Sophrony explained this to us, and it is something useful to know in our pastoral care. It is good to know where our vulnerability lies, so that we are careful. Archimandrite Zacharias The Hidden Man of the Heart (1 Peter 3:4) The Cultivation of the Heart in Orthodox Christian Anthropology
I love his smiling face! 😃
