@@NvanRoblox To be fair it was probably because Classic Sonic wasn’t a younger Sonic in the first place. Classic Sonic was 15 from the start and Modern Sonic is about the same age. Generations calling Classic a younger Sonic seems to have been a mistake that sega sorta corrected. Since Classic Sonic obviously can’t be a younger Sonic if he’s canonically the same age as modern Sonic. The whole alternative Sonic from another dimension is stupid but it does make sense.

I've always saw Boom Sonic as an sort of "Adult Sonic", since he has more quills, he is taller and isn't soo much cocky. And I always though that blue arms make more sense since Shadow and Silver don't have "skin color" arms. Plus, imagine Sonic shaving his arms... ಠ_ಠ

The Toei Sonic is my favorite too. I also really like the design from Sonic R. I think it really captures the Toei design in 3d in way that really worked for the platform.

Riders sonic is really good, although his body proportions are quite weird.
He can run. He can fly. He can reach the other side of the rainbow!
SA2 Sonic is my favorite, and I mean the model.
It's got much more attitude than Modern Sonic and his proportions are a really nice blend of lank and stout.
I also think the SOAP shoes were an awesome fit for the character; I thought they fit Sonic as a character more than his classic, albeit, goofy looking shoes.
That's just me though. I do agree that classic Sonic is absolutely timeless, but something about the edge in SA2's design really jumps out to me in a really nice way.
For me sonic from, Sonic x (SA1 and SA2), overdrive, mania anime, modern are the best. And the fixed design of the movie has a very good place but I waiting for the movie.
In my opinion, Ken Penders is the Rob Liefeld of Sonic comics.

Modern is my favorite because it just looks good in general, like Classic is. It's so good to look at it in Unleashed and Generations and even Forces. Something I also like is that this is a more experienced Sonic. He still makes mistakes and still has his playful personality, but he's clearly been doing this for a while, and seen some stuff that he won't forget. It's like Spider Man in the 2018 game. He's not as arrogant, not as brash, but he's still completely true to the original character, just older.

I'm surprised not to see Sonic Advance Sonic mentioned. It's an interesting and different design. I wouldn't put it at number one and I'm not sure if I'd put it even in the top 10, but I'm just surprised not to see it.

Swap the placement for SA1 and SA2, and i'd agree with you a lot more on this list. Also, the Heroes design isnt that bad conceptually. Obviously the plastic look is pretty bad and the head could afford to be a bit less stiff, but proportions wise, it looks nice.
If they brought this Sonic back and just smoothed out the eyebrows a bit, he'd look really good for a sort of Adventure-Era Sonic in a Generations 2 game.

I completely agree with your list except for #9 Early-Mid 2000s Promo Sonic. That one is definitely Top 5 imo. But otherwise excellent picks and esp your Top 2. The opening and ending movies of Sonic CD were absolutely wonderful and made me fall in love with the character as a kid. Coolest dude ever at that point in time.

I completely agree with your top picks! The Japanese classic Sonic designs from Sonic CD and Mania are his best designs. They are such a good mixture of cute and bad a**. They also are better representations of a hedgehog's shorter arms/legs. Sonic generations proved classic Sonic can also look great in 3D and I wish they would stick with his more classic look.
When you said how much disturbing detail went into the first model for the live-action Sonic, and I just started CRACKING UP at the thought of how much effort the animators and designers put in to make it look real and life like only to be abused and bullied by the entire internet to scrap their hard work 😆😂

I think the real reason people associate Modern with Unleashed is because its the first time they played that design.
I agree with this list. There was great respect for toei sonic, japanese classic sonic, adventure sonic, generations classic sonic, and even modern sonic when he debuted in unleashed/shadow 2005/the storybook games. Another great one was of course the box art from the adventure and advance days, and I always personally loved Sonic 06’s model, especiallt with the new fanmade polish we see in Project 06 by Chaos X, and also the cgi cinematic cutscenes for Sonic in Sonic 06 (sonic and elise in the forest, eggman’s ship crashing, and even the ending cutscene where Sonic and Elise blow out the flame of Solaris and we see Sonic running through Soleanna)

I can't believe that some people didn't realize that sonic's design swap from classic to modern until 2010, I always thought that Sega just liked to switch it up. (I was around 3-7 when I thought this)
My favorite design is the Sonic Prime design I think it is the modern Sonic design perfected it is very expressive I love the fur textures the arms and legs are perfectly sized his face is also very expressive I think it is perfect

1. Sonic jam - it's so cute, and I legit LOVE it! I think that it also just represents my love for early 90's poligon 3D
2. Sonic CD / Mania - you are completely right saying that this rocks, and if I followed your list's designs I would've also chosen this as the number 1. I think the reason I like this one is because it reminds my of the jam design, but it has its own twist, and that is epic
3. Sonic 06 - this one is more nostalgia based ( I grew up with 06 ), but I also just like the weird quill situation he has, and the length of his limbs never really bothered me... But yeah, I like it kind of ironically

Tyson Hesse's Sonic design is definitely great but it would've never been translated well into 3D games, so I think there should be a category for this. Also, some of these designs have never been animated before so while they look appealing, they might not be practical for animation.

I actually have a theory as to why they refer classic sonic as a sonic from another dimension. Maybe before and during sonic generations classic sonic WAS sonic from the past. But maybe after the events of generations classic sonic went on to have different adventures which means he's now a different sonic

The best version of Modern Sonic is in Forces and Lost World. I don't know why people haven't brought it up, but they brought Modern Sonic even closer to Classic Sonic in those two games. He has shorter proportions, he's a lighter blue color, his quills are shorter, and in Forces they even gave him his original idle pose from the first game. Next to Toei, that version of Sonic is my favorite, and I hope they continue to use that model for the next games.

Hmm... I dunno, "Promo Sonic" as you call him is my favorite. It still holds up really well, especially when compared to Classic Sonic; and is a better "Modern" Sonic than the current one. That's just me though, but I do feel it's a bit of a shame it wasn't ranked higher.
Also, if you ask me, Ken Pender's Sonic should've been placed at the bottom; as in worse than V1 Movie Sonic. It seems everything Sonic related the guy touches becomes a gross parody of the original. He made the female characters, especially Sally, WAY too human like as the most egregious example. Blech! But, that's neither here nor there in this video. Perhaps you could address Penders era Sonic more fully in a future video, if you haven't already?

I think Sonic Heroes deserves to be a lot higher. Sonic being colorful and having his sharp teeth be real apparent is real cool. It mad him stand out and I personally like more vibrant colors for Sonic
Just for the sake of clarification, during the Ken Penders segment, not all of those images were done by him. At 4:06 was Al Bigley, 4:17 was Steven Butler, neither of those images has anything to do with Penders.
imo the DiC sonic actually looks pretty good when animated by a competent studio (i.e the 4 TMS animated AoSTH episodes) and the production art is great stuff as well

My favorites are the 2 of Tyson Hesse (Classic and Modern), the japanese Classic, the Toei design, the Wreck it Ralph design and the Mario vs Sonic at the Olimpic Games 2020 design. This last 2 because his mouth isn't weird
