My favorite one is the OG red shoes he uses since day one, but I have quite the respect for the rest of his footwear (especially the Soap shoes and movie shoes). I also have a bit of a soft spot for his green shoes from the movie beginning

The thing I find most funny about people saying design details like shoes doesn't matter is that it really *does* matter. They might not care very much about the process behind a character's deisgn but each element is usually thought out carefully to convey what they want to convey about a character. A great example is the all the variations in Shadow's design before we got the one we know today. There's a reason why red on Sonic feels like a bold splash of color showinf his bold personality, while red on Shadow moreso conveys a more aggressive personality, and it comes down to the elements of their design that make them that way.
A lot of people will say that it "isn't that deep" refusing to see that why our favorite characters are our favorites is because of their designs. And analyzing what works for someone and what doesn't is very much a valid thing to do. Care about it or not even seemingly minute details can make or break a character for people and its good to critically examine those details.

As an avid Tony Hawk fan (player, so what?), I like how the entire Sonic franchise puts emphasis on sneakers, shoes, and stuff as much as skateboarders value some kicks.
My favorite Sonic shoe definitely has to be the Soap Shoes. They just look so cool.

The soap shoes are honestly my favorite, I played adventure 1&2 on GameCube so much as a kid and the soap shoes are what I think of when I imagine sonic. I honestly really like the shape and design and wish these shoes stayed as the main shoe.
Imagine if you will, the Speed Battle Elf Shoes... And imagine Sonic actually running at the speeds he does, and having to hear those bells jingle with every step.

the power up shoes are the unlockable abilities that sonic would used in sonic unleashed
Example:
wing shoes: grants you airboost
metal cleats: grants you stomp and slide
the gold shoes: used for light speed dash
and spring shoes: grants sonic wall jumping
The rainbow gem is real though, just unused. It would've turned you into Super Sonic.
You also forgot to talk about the shoes in SA1 and 2 when you get upgrades (changes the shoe design)

I dig how the Adventure concept shoes/Modern Archie shoes have more detailed soles, makes sense given the land Sonic has to travel.
They also fit better with the world of the adventure games

1 year later and I still can't believe I found this channel because THIS VIDEO popped up in my recommended and I said "Why does this exist? Eh what the hell, dumb tier lists can be fun, I'm gonna watch it lol"

What's funny is, I don't really watch tier list videos, but video essay type stuff is my jam, so I'm glad I liked this enough to check the rest and binge all your other videos
the one nitpick I have with the soap shoes is how sonic usually grinds on the rails. He usually has both feet pointing up a little bit, so he would be grinding on the edge of his soles, not where the arch actually is, which sucks because it would have been really cool seeing the rail actually fit in flush with the arch. That, and quite a fair amount of rails recently have been made squared, rather than round. There is some artwork that has the flush grinding and I gotta say, it does look pretty damn cool. I just wish some of the utility from the soap shoes were shown a little more.
Bonus too, puma had released a variant of sonics standard shoes, being one of the most sought after sonic items at the current time, even though they aren't truly classified as official as it has never actually been stated if it was a collab with sega. These shoes are however currently all over places like ebay, supposedly selling for 4-5 figures.
Soap Shoes are the best, they look cool, and rail grinding

This is a great video dedicated to one of the most iconic sets of footwear. I bet you could do a video of all the footwear for other characters in the franchise, but dare I say no one has worn as many shoes as Sonic.
I'm surprised the Light speed dash shoes were never brought up as they change the shoe model in both Adventure games. Great video overall. Didn't even know half of these shoes existed!

Judging from the time frame, this is before the Monster Hunter DLC of Sonic Forces, where Sonic is decked out in Rathalos Armor. For the sake of completion, where would you rank the Rathalos Armor boots from Frontiers?
Great video and overall felt pretty similar about most of this. Though I was surprised to see you left out the Light Speed Shoes from SA1 as those are probably my favorite upgrade shoes and are honestly S tier for me. Still a great video and can't wait to see what other cool stuff you do like maybe some kind of video on the various concept art released over the years

My favorite sonic outfit is probably his adventure 2 beacause he has that swag.
I personally think that the more common default shoes are the best. Red is a very eye catching color along with blue, plus the shoes look pretty slick, durable, and easy to run in, allowing Sonic to have proper protection of his feet wherever they take him.

I think the mario/link shoes are fine. They're simple enough not to detract from the rest of their respective outfits, and on their own; that's the brightest brown they coulda gone with without going beige, like a less shiny milk chocolate. Plus, the link boots' shape is still very sonic like.

The Lego shoes are very odd, I get there are practical limitations for why only the front and outer sides have printing, but they should have used the same technique done to Finn from the Adventure Time DLC, Finn had his duel mold have blue and black with the socks as printing, rather than the sock as the mold and the shoe the print. If they where trying to take advantage by this also making his souls white, it still doesn't excuse the ugly look.
