It is full of very pretty grain with lots of contrast.
Always fun turning English Walnut and it gave me time to work on another crazy glue up coming soon.

There is something just so very fine about turning English Walnut, it is such a beautiful wood in the hands of a master..Gary you brought the very best out of that piece, nice job
Thank you Richard and I agree that English Walnut is a very special wood. I also thank you very your kind words.
Take care,
Gary
And also here a beautiful walnut bowl. I already thought Leo's was beautiful, but so is this one. Walnut is really a favorite of mine. Nice!
👍Frank.
Thanks Frank. I watched Leo's yesterday. Very pretty wood.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
That wood grain is absolutely beautiful, Thank you for sharing your video.
Thanks Mark, for sure the is some very nice grain. Looking forward to turning more of this.
Take care,

This is a really beautiful piece! You "integrated" the crack masterfully!
Thank you very much. Happy you liked it and thanks for watching,
Gary
You and Phil are my favorite turners, keep up the good work and great video s
Thanks Edward I appreciate your comment.
Gary
A nice simple yet elegant bowl , that does not need further embellishment . I love turning walnut
Thank you Gary! I have more to turn and most will be similar to this because I am sure the bark will not stay on.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Bowl shape plays well with the two tone ribbon in the wood. Great to have a bowl turn easy with out any major dramas. If they would only all go that smoothly!
Thanks Valerie, yes it is nice when everything goes smooth. On some of my turnings it seems like I am doing what I can to make it hard to turn. Like the one I am working on right now.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Good evening, Gary. Gotta love Walnut. Nice job with the crack. Absolutely a beautiful bowl. Oh how the wood changes when the finish goes on. Wowzer. I'm already excited about your next video. See ya then.
Thank you very much Ray. For sure it is like once you put that finish on there is nothing left to see. That is why I take it one step farther with the abrasive paste.
See ya later!
Gary
You really captured the beauty in the grain of that piece of English Walnut, Gary! Just a lovely bowl. Thanks!
Thank you Greg. I was a wonderful piece of wood to turn.
Thanks for watching,
Gary

Gary

Thank you very much Mike and God's blessings on you.
Gary
Walnut never seems to disappoint in its beauty. I do a lot of Black Walnut and have quite a bit of it. As soon as the snow melts I'm getting another 20 ft log. Another Another nice video
Yes Walnut is a great wood. Wish I could find a 20 foot Black Walnut. I have yet to score any of it.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
@@ThePapa1947 Very common around here. I have 2 very large trees in my yard. They're a very messy tree and a lot of people take them down. I really don't need this log but I am going to get
Yup, you've got that finish down pat, Gary! Sure looks good with the contrasting sap wood and heart wood. It was fun to see how the dark part of the river that you wanted to keep near the bottom side of the bowl just moved it's way up as you did a little more turning. No harm done and it looks great! Just another excellent turning, my friend. Keep'em coming! 😀
Phil
Thanks Phil! I tell ya that was the coolest thing I saw all week when that river relocated it self to a better place.
Looking at the bottom I was sure it was going to be gone. Happy Days!
Speaking of rivers I know you have been on the Clackamas. Well I fished it for years for salmon and steelhead and could go down in the dark to get my spot. In the 1996 flood there was a spot on the river where the channel I would go down moved about 500 yards from where it was at before. Not talk about being confused. Made this little Walnut river pocket change LOL
Thanks for watching my friend,
Gary
@@ThePapa1947 Yeah, that would be a little disconcerting. Did you end up standing in someones backyard to fish? LOL!
Actually a new channel was formed and we drifted over what used to be someones front yard. It was a little tricky getting my drift boat around the corner.
Such a beautiful bowl! There is something very satisfying about wood chips flying! I love the shape too, very elegant.
Cheers, Rick
Thank you Rick. Yes sometimes it is nice just to make a big pile of shavings. I hang a big plastic bag off one of my benches and when it gets full it goes out to the yard for lots of things.
Take care,
Gary
Wonderful Walnut bowl beautifully turned and finished. Well done Gary 👏. Very enjoyable video.

Love walnut, love cherry. I turned a segmented yarn bowl for my wife
Thank you. Your yarn bowl sounds very nice.
Thanks for watching,

Beautiful Gary. That wood is special. The crack you filled looks like it's a natural part of the grain. It also sounds like the mad scientist is at it again! We will see. Take care.
Bill
Thank you Bill. I do like how the crack looks as well.
Yes late yesterday I was in the lab and got the pieces together. Today I will see if I can turn it.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Gary,
The bowl looks great…the grain really popped and the undulating pattern is special. Glad the crack didn’t effect the final product, in fact it enhanced it.
Thank you Skip. It is a very pretty piece of wood for sure.
Thanks for watching.
Gary
See Gary, after doing those exotic segmented and glued bowls, you can still turn out a plain bowl, although there is nothing plain about this one. Its absolutely beautiful.
Thank you Garth, it was fun taking a break to do something easier.
And I was rewarded with a beautiful piece of wood.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
It's really beautiful and the crack that filled adds to the design, thank you. Graham UK

My my my, what a beautiful bowl. I'm one that loves wooden bowls and especially English walnut, but I've never had the opportunity to turn one.
I've watched your videos now for 3-4 years and I've never seen one that I haven't liked. You do a fantastic job on everything you turn. You and Phil are 2 of the best turners that I've watched and I hope to see many more. Thank you for showing your work, I have learned alot from you. Again thank you... Wesley

I LOVE walnut, Gary, and this is one of the prettiest pieces I’ve seen in a long time. As usual you have done an incredible job of turning. It must’ve smelled very nice in your shop for a little while. Really enjoyed this video, my friend. 👍😃😃👍😃👍
Happy turning,
…..Gord
Thank you Gord. This piece was so pretty all I had to do is not turn it away. Even before I turned it I could see the beauty where it had been cut.
So I have a problem with knowing how anything smells.
In 2006 I lost all my sense of smell. Not sure what caused it but the doctors said it might have been some virus. I used my share of epoxy and other resins at work when making core boxes for the patterns I built. The fumes could have had some effect but who knows.
Now and then in cold dry air I can smell some things.
Take care my friend,
Gary
Beautiful bowl. Would like to see more of two tone pieces of wood.
Thank you Leslie! I have lots more of this wood and I am sure most will be two tone.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Nice to hear your thought process as you were determining the pieces shape. Love walnut great piece.

Love that black walnut
Thank you Joseph! Believe it or not this is English Walnut but it sure has the look of Black Walnut.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Excellent work Gary! Walnut is one of my favorite woods, because of all that beautiful grain. You really made this piece shine. I kept thinking "You're taking too much off! Stop before it gets too small!" But you really know how to make a beautiful piece beautiful-er. The simple projects are sometimes the best, because they just show off the wood so well. Thanks for a great video. See you next week!
Thank you Mark. Trust me I had to make myself cut some areas to get a decent shape. Such as the bottom but when I saw that ribbon move right upward and stay together I could take a big breath.
Gotta love the simple ones when the wood is Simply Beautiful!
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Great job, Gary. Awesome piece of walnut, a fancy shape most probably would have spoiled that great outcome of the grain. I very much appreciate your thoughts and comments from the beginnig 'til the end. Keep ist up that way! Greetings from Germany, stay safe!
Thank you Reimer, happy you liked it. Also glad you like how I do my videos. I am basically talking out loud to myself planning my next move. Which I may or may not have figured out at the time. Studied the wood is one of the most important things to do when turning.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Absolutely gorgeous, Gary!
Thank you very much Pauline. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
Gary
Beautiful bowl. I will be watching for more. Thank you
Thank you very much Pete. I appreciate you a watching and look forward to you watching and commenting.
Gary
I love just making shavings. It's what it's all about.
For sure! It is fun watching those shavings peel off. As long as you stop in time.
One day my wife needed some shavings to go around her blueberry plants I grabbed a piece of Leland Cypress and turned it down to nothing and brought her the shavings. Now that was fun!
Good job on the crack filling and on the bowl! Came out great!! 😎
Thank you Mark. The crack came out a lot better than I expected. Almost looks like it belongs there.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Beautiful bowl Gary stay safe friend👍👍👍👍
Thank you Radar I appreciate you watching.
Take care buddy!
Gary

Thank you very much Bob. I love the area you live in. Years ago my sister lived above you in Crescent City and I remember visiting when I was a kid. So that was many years ago.

Sometimes simple is the most beautiful in this case it’s true
Thank you Anthony! Like Phil said in his last video. Sometimes you just have to let the wood do the talkin.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
I really liked this one Gary, hot here in Southern Australia today. The dogs and myself were preparing for the new sawmill, hoping to share some projects in the future. All the best, Liz.
Thanks so much Liz! Not so hot here in Oregon but not as cold as it has been.

Thanks so much Gary. Yes I think the crack really adds to the look.
Hard to go wrong with the Walnut.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Very nice, Gary, I like walnut and the contrast between the dark and light wood. Got a piece of black walnut on the lathe right now in the process of being hollowed. Have a good day. Bill
Thanks so much Bill, I had access to a lot of English Walnut but yet have come across any Black Walnut. Both are very pretty wood.
Thanks for watching and have fun finishing the piece in your lathe.

Papa, you done did it again! That is one beautiful bowl. Being a fan of simple, I was happy to see how well it turned out. If I had space in my trailer, that is the kind of art that I would like to have. Thank you.
Thank you Paul, happy you liked it.
I ask myself every week if I have space for this turning. Well I am running out of places to put bowls and other turnings. But it is hard for me to not want to turn something.

I love walnut. Thanks
Thank you for watching Herbie!
Well done. Very nice bowl. I acquired a bunch of walnut last fall and it has a lot of sapwood. Walnut is one of my favorites.
Thank you Greg! A few years ago my nephews in-laws took down a huge walnut orchard to grow something else.
It was English Walnut and almost all of the wood was sap wood. I think the size had a lot to do with it. Strange because they all are grafted onto Black Walnut root balls.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
that grain looks pretty good
😁nice work👍
Thank you Jarkko and thanks for watching.
Gary
Beautiful Nice work as always. Thanks Tim
Thank you Tim and thanks for watching.
Gary
I turn walnut a lot also. Normally I have the dark pith on the bottom and the light sap wood on top. This looks really good, I'm going to try it, thanks.
Thank you Tim. I studied the piece a lot to make sure I could see the heart wood the best. This also makes it look like the dark wood is flowing down the sides of the bowl.
Thanks for watching.
Gary
Truly a beautiful bowl Gary ! You had me scared there for a short that you might cut up that " river " but you didn't . LOL . The Acks really does a great finish . I have been using it since you turned me on to it last year . Many thanks for that .
Thank you Jon, not sure if you could hear it in my voice but I was worried about cutting part of the river away. Almost to the point of finishing the bottom and hot gluing a tenon on it. As it turned out I am glad I did turn some of it because it lifted it wraps around keeping a nice flow. That bend in the river reminds of some real rivers I taken my drift boat down.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
