Miami by Drone in 4K - DJI Mavic 2 Pro

- It's been awhile since we've done a "Blank by Drone" video, but we filmed a lot of really cool footage in Miami a couple of weeks ago with the new DJI Mavic 2 Pro, sporting the awesome Hassleblad camera! This makes video #13 in our Blank by Drone series.
The song is "Paradise" by Analog Heart, and it was licensed through Musicbed.com. I love the music from these guys, and I've used several of their songs in my videos.
All footage was filmed in Miami, Florida (with, admittedly, an emphasis on the coastline since it's easier to film there than in the city). The flights adhered to Part 107 regulations. Those flights that were in Class B airspace were conducted under a wide-area authorization, and night flights were conducted under a Daylight Operations waiver.
If you're planning on purchasing this drone, and want to help support the work that I do, please consider purchasing from here:

Beautiful footage! The hyperlapse clips are by far the best I've seen yet. Next video on my list is your tutorial 🙂
Thank you! And awesome that you're planning on watching the tutorial. If you're into being a perfectionist and REALLY trying to get an awesome hyperlapse, you should check out my advanced post process also. That one isn't so much a step-by-step, but it gives the broad steps I take to process these hyperlapses, particularly for difficult or otherwise "unusable" ones.
Just watched the first one 👍 Do you have to purchase a license for LRT? Here is my first attempt. It was very windy. m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=451193058621686&id=350802028778529
To use the full version of LRT, yes, you need a license. I can't remember what the trial version does to limit it, but there are limitations on it. But get the trial, see if you like it, and if you do and you realize it's worth it, then you can get the license.

Hands down the BEST drone footage I've ever seen. It's mesmerizing to watch. You have an amazing talent at what to shoot and how to shoot it. Very very well done! I've subscribed and excited to look at more of your amazing work.
This has got to be one of thee most relaxing things I’ve ever seen.
Thank you
I love what you've done with this! I love the music you selected and the clear imagery!! It's perfect for my international students to see and it even made me nostalgic!! Thank you!!
Absolutely amazing!
Imaging seeing such a video just 5 years ago. One would have wondered how many helicopters were flying for this film? What fantastic state-of-the-art million dollar cameras were in use? And to now know that it is the wonder of the Mavic Pro 2, a 1500 $ miracle machine.
But your processing, color-correction and editing is just as mindblowing. Just love the hyperlapses, especially the opening one is the best I have ever seen!
I know! I've been flying drones for 4.5 years, started with the Phantom 2 with a GoPro, and even that impressed me with what it was capable of. But the amount of development and innovation in this technology is mind-blowing.
And thank you for the kind words on our work. I do like to put that extra time in to make sure it really shines. I actually was thinking of publishing this yesterday, but I wanted to fine-tune some things, and I'm glad I did because it does make a difference.
i am from china ,beautiful.i want to visit here !
Yep, one of the best uses of the best features of the M2P. I'm looking to buy one soon* and I've been watching loads of M2P&Z on CZcams. It seems only about 15% of users get the best from the Pro; one actually makes the Zoom look quite a bit better. I hope I can work out how you've got the images so sharp and avoided the dreaded stutter of fast pans and "zooms". Can you say why you think some people have failed in these two aspects?
Anyway, great video - almost makes me want to go there.
* or shall I wait for M3?
You were able to so beautifully capture one of my favorite cities in the world! Brought me back (as I have not been in years)
Glad this video will exist in 50 years when it's all underwater…
@Brendan Hello 👋 Fan
Keep believing BS underwater !
Sound design is done perfectly well
Thank you for the compliment. I *almost* didn't do the sound design on this one because I was so eager to publish it and start working on our next video. But knew I'd be disappointed in myself if I didn't, and the response to having the sound design included has been very positive, so it further cements in my mind that sound design is so critical and should be included in all of our films.
Blue Mantle Films where did you get the sounds?
love the footage specially those hyperlapses and at night time!
Probably come back to this video at least once a month :)
Great work dude you make this drone look like an inspire!

Outstanding! I for one really like the addition of the sound track it adds a whole new dimension to the film, low key and in my opinion not over the top at all!
Thanks! It's always a balancing act. I've been doing sound design on my drone videos for years...sometimes more obvious, sometimes less obvious, and I'm constantly trying to find the right balance.

Thank you. This was a fun project to make, particularly to be able to use the drone just to make beautiful imagery rather than "for a tutorial". Not that I don't like tutorials, but it can be really fun to just create for the sake of creating.

The best city in Florida Miami is just beautiful.
AMAZIIIIIIIIIIING !!!! MAY I ASK HOW YOU SPEED UP FROM A TO B ? IS IT JUST THE FAST FORWARD SETTING ? I'M ON FCPX
The technique is speed ramping, and in Premiere Pro (what I use) the effect is called Time Remapping. I don't know what the effect would be called in FCPX...I haven't used FCP since they introduced X like ten years ago, so I'm out of the loop with its current features. I do think it has some sort of capability that is similar to Time Remapping though. If you look up "Speed ramping FCPX" I'm sure you'll find a ton of info on it.
Blue Mantle Films thx a lot !
Press Shift+B in fcpx or go for „speed ramp orion yorke“ in CZcams
PERFECT , THX A MILLION !
What frame rate did you use on the clips that you used speed ramping on? This vid is so so sweet man. Love the tweaking on your hyperlapse shots.
nice
Thanks!
This is the Best Miami Video by far...!!!
I literally tried not to blink so i wouldn't miss any of this amazing work.
BEAUTIFUL VIDEO, I have a question the hyperlapse you make in jpg with the automatic process of dji 4 or you do it in raw manually. And the same question for the colors of the hyperlapse is automatic or manual?
Tienes nuevo suscriptor desde Paraguay =)
I most definitely do post processing with the raw images. The automatically-generated videos can look cool, but to really get the best-possible hyperlapses, particularly for color and dynamic range, it's necessary to use the raw. I process the raw images in Lightroom to bring out the colors, then load them into Premiere to run Warp Stabilizer on them.
¡Gracias por suscribirse!
Now that I'm subscribed, I've seen all your videos, you have one of how to do it for normal people and another for advanced SUPER people, what if you do one for totally new/amateur people? hahaha
wow thats crazy stable!!!!!! Why they stay P4P is still better?? I cant do anything like that with my P4P.... So jealous for your views in that video... Within 1day?? wow
I know! From the past with other drones I’m used to having to either skip a lot of shots because of vibration or having to at the very least use Warp Stabilizer, and in this one I had literally one shot (real-time footage, that is) that I ran Warp Stabilizer on. Now, that said, the hyperlapses I did stabilize in post as part of processing them to be the best I could make them, but that’s different, I think, because those are filmed over 15-20 minutes, so of course they’re going to jitter a little bit.
As far as P4P vs. M2P, I really think it’s up to the person. Use whatever you want to use to make content, but then stop complaining about other tools and just go make content! I wanted with this video to show that M2P can be taken seriously as a machine that can be used for professional work.
Anyway, thanks for watching the video! I’m obviously very happy with the response it has gotten. :-)
I mean. Maybe your p4p is broken? The p4p isn’t “better.” It's the same camer, probably a little better image, overall. But it will do all this. You would just have to do your hypes the old fashioned way.
Blue Mantle Films Excellent! (Curious how you could achieve same with P4P.)
good question
Some people have a natural talent for composition, and you are one of them. Great video, and thanks for the instruction videos as well.
Thanks! There's always room for improvement, but I don't discount that I'm happy with how this video turned out.

Wow this video was amazing. I recently got a drone and have started to make videos with the footage and upload them. This has given me some great ideas on what I can do so thank you
Beautifully graded and amazing shots!
Overall, I really like this video. Night shots look beautiful. I rate this an A-. The minus is for sound efx being a bit to much for the following reasons. Concept is good, except the natural sound should match the sound that one would hear from the altitude of the shot. For example, the volleyball game, one hears the hit of the volleyball clearly. But it does not match what you would hear from that height, so it can be perceived as being fake. So hearing loud traffic from 400' up and 1,000' away does not really match. In addition, because the music is very full and allows little acoustic space around it, the sound efx fight with the music and therefor are turned up to be heard. It's hard to have both, as they compete. If you want to hear sound efx, turn music down, but don't turn efx up, for instance. All in all, this really is a beautiful piece.
Thanks for the feedback!
I'll counter with a few things: I actually did adjust levels and the reverb (making them acoustically softer) based off of the height/distance. volleyball hits in real life are very distinct-sounding, so I actually think that's what you'd hear from 30-ish feet away. And for traffic: I intentionally lowered the levels of traffic on the higher-altitude shots. Most of the shots were taken at between 50-100ft altitude, and it was mostly just the hyperlapses and the few wide city skyline shots that the drone was up closer to 400 feet. So for the lower down shots the levels were a bit higher, but on the higher up shots I lowered the levels and added a Surround Reverb filter, set to "Somewhere Not Here" to make the sounds sound distant. That said (and as I've said in other comments) this is all a learning process for me, so while I did intentionally do some of the things you suggest, I didn't execute them as well as I could have.
Yes, finding the balance of music and sfx is definitely something I struggle with. I like to hear both, but I guess I need to learn to prioritize one or the other.
I know on my next video I'll be intentionally more subtle in my sound design, because this does seem to be the main critique that this film is getting.
Thank you again for your feedback. I'm hoping to continue growing through this process. :-)
Sounds like you will do better on the next video. Regardless, it appears there are a lot of viewers who perceive the effects as "fake." When mixed correctly, you will hear few comments about the sound efx, as people will not even notice they were there. As a sound engineer for film and TV for years, we used to have a saying, "Less is more."
was about to ask how the volleyball sound was captured, fantastic work.
I wouldn't say the natural sound overlay sounded "fake" as much as "misplaced" in some scenes. By your reply you are aware of this issue and have adjusted the audio feel to mitigate this. I am totally with you when you say: "finding the balance of music and sfx is definitely something I struggle with" I am right there with you. I love the footage I get from my M2P finding the right audio to go with the footage is more challenging than people think. All told I love the piece.
I'm not a sound guy or a filmmaker but the sound stood out as weird to me. Like it drew my attention to the "I shouldn't be hearing that sound like this"
Simply Beautiful. Very inspirational and something to aspire to for sure!
Thank you. I appreciate the affirmation!
