- The DJI Mavic 2 Pro, the latest in DJI's lineup (along with the Mavic 2 Zoom), is an incredible drone! One of the coolest features it has is the ability to quickly capture awesome aerial hyperlapses. We've been putting this drone through the paces for the last week, and we've put together this tutorial on how to get the best hyperlapses possible with this drone.
The tutorial is a bit on the long side, but I wanted to be thorough and cover everything that I thought would be helpful to get great hyperlapses.
If you have any questions on this, please feel free to leave a comment below and I'll do my best to answer.
I have several more videos coming up where I'll delve into other features of the Mavic 2 Pro, including a more thorough post-processing workflow tutorial, so please come back for that!
Hey all! Thanks for watching the video! If you'd like to help support the work that I do, and you're planning on buying this drone, please consider following these links to purchase. These are Amazon Associate links, listed at the same price as everywhere else, but I will get a small commission from each sale.

Great video ! No idea you live in Pittsburgh I was born and raised there. I am so anxious to bring my MP2 and do the same. Where did you fly from ?
Do ppl know why I can go beyond 1/25 shutterspeed in hyperlapse mode?
Hey Blue mantle . Do you know if its possible to change shutter speed with dji smart controler?
@@lasandar I don't have the smart controller, so I can't confirm this myself, but try the 5-direction joystick (that's the one that's just to the inside/left of the right main joystick). That works for the regular controller, and I'd hope they'd leave it working on the smart controller as well.
I’ve seen over 500 videos drone related: tutorials, drone photography, drone videography, products, accessories... you name it. Absolutely no one, delivers the quality that you do. To my personal preference you are it. I started this hobby with one vision and it was to one day do a video like the one you did on my town, Miami. I look forward to make it. Congratulations, thank you for sharing and God Bless.
Paladrone is excellent if you understand french, or captain drone
Thanks for sharing your skills and experience Matt.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
It's 2022 and this is still my favorite Mavic Hyperlapse tutorial.
This is the best drone hyperlapse video, even in 2024 after 5 years.
Really good educational video. Thanks. Can’t wait for my M2P to arrive in the mail and start trying these features.
It's a great drone to have. I can't wait to go out again and film some more with it!
Those hyperlapses are stunning! I’ve had made my Mavic 2 a few days and made a couple but I will take on your tips and see if I can make some better ones!
Thanks Paul! I hope these points are helpful to you. Most of the principles in this video are applicable to other types of timelapses/hyperlapses, which I have done a fair bit of in the past, so I just tried to keep those points in mind while starting to work with the Mavic 2, and so far I've been happy with the results.
Seriously one of the best tutorials I've watched on the Mavic, any topic. So nice to see the 'Burgh captured so beautifully, miss my hometown. Thanks!
So helpful! I just got the Mavic Pro 2 last week and love it, but I was having some issues with it and wanted to learn more cinematic things. Thank you so much for this clear tutorial of the drone and it's settings and for clearing some stuff up for me like the firmware issue.
Great tutorial!
That drone footage at the beginning was fire. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks!
Totally agree, great color and details on the footage
Excellent video. Thanks for putting it together!
As a beginner trying to increase my drone skills, I searched up "dji drone hyperlapse best practices" and was like "wow, nice Pittsburgh shots" then "ayy wtf Veteran's Memorial bridge!" I'm in NC now but grew up in Steubenville so I was a bit surprised to be mosying about the internets and seeing Ohio Valley scenes.
Amazing shots and thanks for the tips!
Thank you for sharing, it’s really helpful 😍
Awesome! That's the hope.
excellent video!
Thanks! Just saw your video from Skiathos. Excellent work, as always! I haven't yet watched your Mavic 2 review video, but plan to later today.
thanks for this! i just got the mavic 2 pro!! wheww excited to try the hyperlapse!!
Excellent tutorial, superb footage! Well done! Thank you!👍🌞😊
I love Pittsburgh!! Great video my man!
Thanks! I hope to make an actual dedicated Pittsburgh video eventually, but for now I was concentrating mostly on becoming familiar with how to use the hyperlapse feature well.
great help boss!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful. Are you using the Mavic 2 for your videos? I'm going to guess you probably also have a bunch of the new GoPros. :-)
+Adrenaline Addiction I love you 😫
Well done. So far, the best and most useful tutorial on this subject I have found. Straight and to the point and right on message throughout.
Incredibly helpful advice and amazing hyperlapses to boot, thank you!
Great great Video!!!! Very nicely done ! Subbed
Thanks! Glad it was helpful.
Hi Matt, I’ve been fine tuning my hyperlapse shots, and this video tutorial is spot on. Thank you.
Great informative video! You’re really really good!!! I’m sitting on the fence as far as upgrading from the mavic pro. You sure make me want to do it! Thanks
Very informative video.
What level of ND filter did you use? ND4, ND8, ND16 etc? Or just try trial and error? Thanks!
Nd4 is 2 stops ND8 is 3 stops and ND16 is 3 stops. So he compensate using aperture (f-stop) for the right exposure he need using those ND filters.
In this case I used ND1000, which I think was too strong, but it was either that or ND8, which was way too weak. Once PolarPro releases their ND filters, I'm hoping to do some tests with ND128 and ND256, to see which of those I prefer for getting the long exposure.
@@BlueMantleFilms im looking into an ND filter also.. polar pro that is..do you think an ND 32 is adequate in addition to adjusting aperture to get the a correct/non blown out photos for hyperlapse?
I don't know yet. I read a blog like two days ago (wish I had the link, but I can't remember where it was) that showed that you lose A LOT of sharpness when shooting above f5.6 or something. The sample pics were eye-opening for me because the difference between f2.8 (nice and sharp, so long as it was correctly in focus) and f11 was astounding. It single-handedly convinced me that I won't shoot in f11 if at all possible. So that said, once I get some ND filters I'll be testing and figuring out which I prefer for video and which for long-exposures (such as for hyperlapses). I could theorize, but I prefer to do tests.
@@BlueMantleFilms that's exactly my thought about shooting when we stop down passed.. like what you mentioned f5.6 or more which Generally will start to introduced lens diffraction. ND filter still a must then! Thanks for your input again sir! I'll keep a look out on your videos!
ah my city
And a beautiful city it is!
where is it?
Pittsburgh?
Great video - very helpful. Just started dabbling with the hyperlapse mode myself!
8 months of flying and I am now going to try and learn Hyperlapse. Found your video perfect for getting started. Thanks!
OMG, pittsburgh based????
Close. Steubenville. But I imagine Pittsburgh will be a subject for a lot of my videos since it's more interesting to film a city than a small town and trees.
Cool shots in Pittsburgh! As a new drone owner, I wonder if when I travel to Pgh, if I can fly my drone and get footage in the area of the point and the stadiums, assuming there are no flight restrictions at the time due to games going on?
Awesome film, just what I needed before heading out this evening, thanks buddy 👍
Great Job! I really enjoyed the details... I just subscribed and look forward to viewing more tutorials on drones, and Lightroom. Oh! The video clips at the start looked awesome!
Outstanding! What a fantastic tutorial
Super helpful intro to hyperlapsing! Thanks for the awesome explanation and the well explained modes.
Great Information, Clear to the point instructions! Thank you! Can't wait to play~
Beautiful footage and amazing graded! 😍 Perfect tutorial, liked the paste and edit! 😊
Thanks Man, super nice tutorial and very good explanation!
Super helpful video. Thanks for sharing.
super informative. been playing around with the hyperlapse setting on my new mavic air 2 and this video applies well there too!
I just got a Mavic 2 Zoom last week but planning to get the Mavic 2 Pro this summer. I’ll definitively will use your link.
Excellent tutorial and great pictures of Pittsburgh!
Awesome drone ideas. Thanks again for putting the video up.
Absolutely great tutorial thank you for taking the time to make it
Love the tutorial. Just got the M2Pro & your video is a truly wonderful guide. Thank you!
Thank you, by the way. Hyperlapse is a new concept for me and I'm waiting for my mavic 2 to be delivered so I appreciate you breaking this down. I've been trying to learn what I can 😉
Your videos are straight to the point without that "am trying to sell you some product".
Thank you for the videos and keep up the great work!
Thank you for the basics. It was informative....
Thanks for best tutorial!
I have watched like a ton of M2P videos, but this one is by far the best! Liked, subbed, love the beautiful shots, great tips and overall professionalism!
Thanks Jakub! That's encouraging! Happy to have you here!
Great tutorial, thanks!
Really informative tutorial, thank you
Top tutorial, cheers man
One of the better videos on this feature I have seen. Thanks so much!!
Thanks! I'm glad it was helpful to you.
Loved the shots. Born and raised in Steubenville and saw the bridge in the recommended videos and said that was the veterans bridge. Awesome shots there and of downtown Pittsburgh. Also loved the tutorial. Thank you for the training and the hometown memories!
Best tutorial ive ever seen thank! Cheers mate!
Great Jobn. The compound movements you use are much more appealing to watch than some who only use static . This looks really good.
Excellent video! Thanks :)
I tries my first hyperlapese before I really learned how to use it and I kinda regret not watching this video first! I used course lock but I just had the drone so straight at the object so the only thing that really had movement was the water. I think next time I go out ill definitely experiment with the different settings. Thanks for the video and tutorial!
What a nice tutorial, thanks a lot!
This is really great. Thank you very much, you deserve the best, I have benefited greatly from your excellent advice, I am honored to follow your channel to take advantage of it
FANTASTIC! Your very talented for sure, really enjoyed your video lots of information at take in will require a lot of practice you have some very interesting city scape in your area but you have a real eye for composition. I need more time on the editing side got fairly good with Lightroom but no experience with any video editing so a lot of work ahead. Thanks again
awesome video, cant wait to to get out there and try it
Thank you for sharing, great hyperlapses video's
Watched the whole thing! Well done and well documented with examples. Thanks!!!
Thanks. My wife said the reason she liked this one more than any of my others is because of the samples/b-roll, so it's good to know that that's working. I'll try to keep it up.
Great video, Thanks!
Very informative in regards to the various hyperlapse modes. Something I'm yet to play around with properly and finesse but this definitely motivates me.
Very Helpful ! Thank you a lot !!!
Awesome info - thanks so much
I just came across your channel. Awesome tutorial on hyperlapse!
Excellent video thanks very much
All I was looking for. Thanks a lot!
this has to be the best hyperlapse tutorial for the Mavic 2. I did a few hyperlaspses but they were garbage...looking forward to trying again!!!
Very helpful, thanks.
Thanks for sharing this video. It's gold!
You're welcome. I'm glad it's helpful!
thanks. good information. I tried it out too. very nice feature that mavic 2 has
Great to Touriel brilliant man super excited about watching more
Great tips and recommendations. Thanks for posting. Subbed!
Thank you Matt for such an useful tutorial with very clear and practical suggestions.
You're welcome!
Really cool and precise Matt! Thank you and I subscribed! Just got my Mavic 2 Pro. This machine is amazing even with the basics! Can’t wait to get it all figured out and this video really shows off this portion of its awesomeness! Lol thank you!
Awesome! Great to have you here. I've also been very impressed by what it's able to do right out of the box. I think what I'm most excited to 'test' next is how it handles difficult shooting situations. I've flown a few times when lighting conditions were difficult (bright sky, dark ground) and it does seem like you can pull a lot of detail out of the shadows with this one, so it'll be fun/cool to test that some more.
Thank you 🙏 thank you so much 😊 So helpful information 👍🏻
Thank`s! Nice and useful!
Superbe tutoriel, merci à vous
Fantástico footage!
HUGE thank you for the tips! Love it man! I have not seen any GREAT tutorial on CZcams like this! Amazing stuff! And yes I will forward on your mavic 2 pro videos!
Thanks, Misael! I think the saving grace for me is the power of editing. When I filmed this I had 45 minutes of just talking to the camera, then narrowed it down to these 12 minutes.
@@BlueMantleFilms wow you did a great job! Pls make more mavic 2 video!
Will do.
I live in Pittsburgh and fly my Mavic Pro here as much as possible. I’ve been flying for around 8 months now and still don’t have the right equipment to edit but I dabble with Lightroom on my iPad to edit photos. These time lapse videos you shot are amazing and where I want to be! I will get there someday! Great footage of my town and thanx for the tutorial! Now I need to upgrade to the Mp2!
Great tutorial I really enjoyed your tips and will try to do this in lightroom too
Hey Matt, Robert here from Australia. Great tutorial the way you deliver it, informative and easy to understand thank you.
Super informative. Learned a ton!
Not only is this a greed to Tutorial But you keep her engaged you’re definitely not boring. I appreciate all of these tips I’m going to practice them for my trip tomorrow! Thanks for sending me this
Awesome! I try to give relevant information without taking too long. Glad I was successful on this one. :-)
that's some incredible nice footage! :D thx man! ^^
Great job man! Look forward to more
Hey Matt...Figured it out. Thanks anyway. Enjoying your tutorials.
wonderful hyperlapse tutorial and awaiting the post processing part !!
Yep, working on it...but haven't put as much time into that yet as I had hoped because I've been spending a fair bit of time interacting with people on FB and YT in response to this video. It's been a whirlwind three days!
Blue Mantle Films take your time, no hurry ! :-)
Awesome tips! I used to live in Pittsburgh so it's awesome to see that perspective of it and the surrounding areas!
I love how much topography it has...it allowed for a lot of layers and textures for the hyperlapses.
super useful! the most informative video about HL on CZcams! So many tips, thanks a lot!
Thanks! I'm glad it was helpful!
Thanks that was great and exactly what I was looking for.
Already looking forward for your Post Prod tutorial.
Sorry I missed this comment! Thanks, and I'm glad it was helpful. Did you get a chance to watch the Post Production video? I've actually posted two...one a more step-by-step process, the second a more advanced processing, but less step-by-step.
Blue Mantle Films I’ll check it soon ! Thanks
Best video I’ve seen on the subject. Thanks!
Thanks! I do intentionally try to give valuable information beyond just "here's the buttons you press", so I'm glad so many people have responded well to that.
Really helpful ... thank you 👍🏼
This footage at the beginning is AWESOME! It looks sooo good! Nice work!
Thanks! I'll admit I was tempted to share individual clips on Facebook pages as I was in the midst of processing the hyperlapses and seeing how cool they looked, but I thought it'd be better to wait until I had a full sequence of hyperlapses. Glad I did.
Thanks for sharing man - really informative - appreciate the time to share some workflows!
Glad it was helpful!
Superb tutorial and some stunning examples there 👌
Thanks! My hope was that it could be a more in-depth tutorial than just "here's what the manual says" in video form. :-)
