39:52 Jank - Hry
Strength of the Harvest isn't All That Glitters - it doesn't care about artifacts. It does, however, care about creatures.
Yeah, which I feel like is a considerable downgrade
It's downgrade in Affinity-style decks, but is an upside in Bogles
Seth can finally make an oops all MDFC deck!
This already exists. It's called Belcher.
@@Sup4ast4r that has non MDFCs
Does Seth ever sleep? I'm not saying he looks like he needs rest; it's just that I feel he puts out a video every three hours.
This man deserves a raise.
It's his fulltime job ain't it rather spend 8 hours doing what you love then something else
@@SoulsOfCinder Amen to that.
Okay Seth.
I wonder if how long the gameplay video's take form done with recording to editing to published
that could be how they are out every few hours
kinda wild to lump in discharge and roil cartographer into the jank section. those cards are really quite good
Especially Discharge, it's up there with Unholy Heat and dare I say Lightning Bolt as one of the best removal spells in Modern. Plays very well with Amped Raptor (which really is the big reason this is the case)
Fun fact: Phlage, Titan of Fire's Fury was introduced in the DND Theros book.
"Phlage, Titan of Burning Wind, was an all-consuming whirlwind of fire, and Skotha, Titan of Eternal Dark, was the utter darkness of the starless night." Page 34.
I wonder when we'll see Skotha?
Even the worst MDFCs are still interaction on turn 8 when you have 10+ lands on the board if nothing else. Though many of them are just genuinely good. Plus the proliferation of bounce land targets and other shenanigans. The options these give are good to godly.
The MDFCs can be pitched by forces and evokes right? Have to be busted for that.
Simic mdfc doesn’t but it pitches to ugin’s labyrinth :)
I feel like you're underrating strix serenade a bit, the giving your opponent a 2/2 will be worst against decks that are playing creatures, but in that case you will at least be able to downgrade whatever creature they were casting to a 2/2 flyer for just 1 mana. Not saying it'll fit in any deck but I feel like it has to have a place that it'll fit into
It gets rid of the evoke elementals from mh2, 100% will find a place
You’d rather just counter it with an actual counter spell, otherwise you have to 2 for 1 yourself to get rid of the 2/2 it leaves behind which is really bad
The thing is that decks that already use creatures would rather simply overpower the enemy and further their own plan by actually playing things on their own turn. Blue Tempo decks might have some fringe use for it, but those decks already pack counters that don't give tools to the opponent in exchange. And pure control decks then would have to deal with the creature that's left after countering whatever came first, effectively 2-for-1-ing themselves (which already happens with FoW or Force of Negation, but those can simply get rid of a random blue card instead of something that HAS to be capable of dealing with the creature).
As Seth puts it, it doesn't protect your plan, it simply disrupts. And if you're going to disrupt, might as well pack something that isn't conditional, or that doesn't give you another problem down the line.
Now, in Commander? This thing will be in pretty much every blue deck, next to Wash Away.
Thing is most creatures in modern are 1 drops, so turning a 3/3 drc into a 2/2 isn't very good, sice you have to 2 for 1 yourself. Just play a lightning bolt or prismatic ending instaid
To blanket reply to these, where this card seems strong to me is an answer to pretty much everything out of tron, primeval titan, yawgmoth, the one ring, grief (on the play), murktide. Which is a pretty impressive range for a one mana counter. I agree that it is pretty anemic vs small creatures and so maybe would be better as a sb card? Regardless the card is very neat to me
Warren Soultrader + Marionette Apprentice + Marionette Master = OMFG
Weaponcraft enthusiast, backup or bolster could be options.
There are about 1000 better combos haha
0:18 i think this is a contender for one of the longest “oooolive”s
Might be worth noting that Strength of the Harvest is slightly different than All That Glitters (besides cost):
Strength keys off creatures and enchantments, while Glitters looks at artifacts and enchantments
I think most decks running AtG have a mix of artifacts and enchantments to maximize the buff, so the two cards probably won't have the same homes
i'm surprised that you didn't mention the first common legendary in a very long time. and it also has the return of the grandeur keyword from future sight which was not an ability that i was expecting to see again
Essence Reliquary isn't bouncing your creatures, it is bouncing your The One Ring.
The problem with the MDFC dual lands is that, if you need a land, you generally need the land to come into play untapped. Rarely will topdecking it when you need a land be as effective as topdecking the mono-colored MDFC lands that can come into play untapped for some life.
The uncommon mdfc cards will be worth more than a lot of the rares in MH3
That’s a fact
As someone that plays a Teysa aristocrats commander deck I can't wait to get my hands on some of these.
Drowner of Truth is a land that can be exiled by Ugin’s Labyrinth. That’s gonna see play, I’m sure of it
1:39 earned my like. Thanks for keeping the meme alive.
Strix Serenade +Swan Song + Thing in the ice - so much fun
strength of the harvest is actually not a all that glitters. it counts cratures instead of artifacts so you can use that in a token deck as well
16:34 Endless One: Am I a joke to you?
Strix serenade kinda works like that 2 mana counter spell in standard with “casualty”, by giving up a piece if you pair it with a bounce cantrip.
Quote of the video: "I'm not sure it'll see modern play, but this has a perfect home in commander" oof
The set is basically a modern legal Commander Masters.
I believe the intention is just to have it in your toolbox as a deck builder. That said, a few cards are still incredibly questionable(especially kaalia that card could literally never be good)
I love Hagra Mauling. Glad we're getting a second copy. In Hagra Maulings defense though, there is usually at least one player running a greedy, low basic count mana base that turns turns Hagra Mauling into Murder.
Drowner of truth also pitches to ugins labyrinth
I’m so glad they’re giving some focus on energy even before the set that will literally just focus on energy
Tamiyo Meets the Story Circle + Urza's Saga + Treasure Cruise makes huge karnstructs...then after you investigate 20 times, Fomori Vault becomes 3 mana discard to tutor the next Urza's Saga, which can search up Expedition Map to tutor up more Urza's Saga, which can tutor up Elixir of Immortality to shuffle all your Urza's Sagas back into your deck so you can play them again!
Urza's Saga.deck:
1 Academy Ruins
3 Boseiju, Who Shelters All
4 Cephalid Coliseum
4 Fomori Vault
2 Hall of Heliod's Generosity
4 Hallowed Fountain
2 Hidden Cataract
3 Meticulous Archive
2 Otawara, Soaring City
4 Reliquary Tower
4 Seachrome Coast
4 Sunken Citadel
4 Tolaria West
4 Urza's Cave
4 Urza's Saga
1 Elixir of Immortality
1 Expedition Map
1 Shadowspear
4 Tamiyo Meets the Story Circle
4 Treasure Hunt
I actually like swan song in my shadow sideboard as extra counter magic if needed since the 2/2 geta hesitant to swing with a shadow down and drc outgrows it in size too
For some reason?? Rosheen is the GOAT I’ve had her forever, I was on MTGmudstah with my rosheen deck and that video was the headline on the edhrec page for rosheen for the longest time
Sweet dude! My brother is an OG Rosheen fan. He is already talking about building the new one. His deck got a lot better with the addition of those Tyranids from 40k.
those MDFCs look absolutely wild to me.
Warren Soultrader is definitely going into my Savra Commander deck.
Glasswing Grace: Is Overcosted.
Eriette the Beguiler: I see this as an absolute win.
Marionette Master is a thing. Bless Seth for reaching for those other cards.
There is a blue flicker that hits lands as well for 2 mana so u can get this eldrazi out turn 2 swinging turn 3
Looks like there are going to be 2 sets of MDFC mono colored lands? Cause you showed some here that I haven't seen, but there are also Boggart Trawler, Disciple of Freyalise, and Witch Enchanter in black, green, and white respectively.
the new MDFCs in yuriko decks!
The tapped MDFC are pretty sweet for commander. I'm unsure of Modern playability but in budget commander decks, they are just better than gates or gain lands which see a decent amount of play.
Green black titan each opponent sacrifices a creature, you return a card from graveyard to hand
Red blue Titan flash copy target instant sorcery activated or triggered ability
Considering they also trigger on attack, the izzet one is out and the golgari one seems slightly too pushed (unless it's a each player sacs wording)
Edit: also so far each titan represents a 2mv spell of its colors (uro with growth spiral and the new one with lightning helix as an example)
Probably would be dimir/ selenysna rather than golgari/ izzet to make the cycle make sense
Dimir- A syphon insight type affect
Selenysa-Sigil Blessing type affect maybe along with destroy and enchantmemt
Dumb
Suppression Ray is a nice fit for Hylda.
of all of these, I think Amped Raptor might be really good in faster decks. I also think Cranial Ram definitely sees play in pauper affinity.
I think the trouble is that we now know as a playerbase that generally, if a card isn't as obviously busted as Uro, it's not gonna make the cut. Power creep is such that anything which is a maybe at release becomes unplayable within 6 months. Gone are the days when a card can be a sleeper for 6 years until someone discovers a powerful synergy because cards cannot afford to only be synergy pieces. If they don't do everything at the best rate possible, then they're pretty much dead weight.
I’m a big fan of putting a creature with grandeur at common for the draft environment, ESPECIALLY with the play booster changes
The new swan song counters the evoke elementals and stops you getting double griefed turn 1
I actually like galvanic discharge in an energy style deck. It allows energy decks to have 8 ways of generating energy on t1 without attune with aether, and you can keep it in UR, arguably the best two colors to have energy in. And getting 3 energy, then spending 1 to get rid of an X/1, and keeping two energy counters brings more value than drawing a random card or getting a basic land.
Not to mention, late game, you can just kill something big and turn this into the energy Unholy Heat
13:44 there is final showdown. You can spend one more mana to wipe the board and give one if to your creatures indestructible.
Do you think Uro would've been OK if it hadn't gained life? Like 3 mana draw card, put land into play? Like a typical ramp spell like growth spiral ?
We are going from Eldrazi Winter to Hot Eldrazi Summer
Wow! Legion Leadership goes in every single voltron Feather build. Its an MDFC and it doubles power with first strike which is better than double strike in most circumstances and it stacks with double strike like Unleash Fury does. Not to mention that it taps for white or red! 🔥
Spymasters vault is really gonna mess some control decks up I think. Sure 6 mana is a lot in modern but let’s say you’re a black aggro deck with a hive of the eye tyrant. Opponent wipes on their turn, you fire up the eye and hit it with the palace for 6 total. You’re rocking some great card selection and a probably lethal attacker now. Obv not busted, but I think it’s a must have (1-2 copies) for any aggressive black deck
Did I miss this or did you not mention Brainsurge? 2U to draw 4 and put 2 from hand back. Seems super strong
there is legion leadership equal card in m20 unc 1r that only doubles power, so LL is very busted. and also golgari one is equal to zendikar's green without indestructible, perfect fit for skullbriar decks
Phlage js so underrated while not as good as Uro in a jeskia control shell its a great way to stave of aggro decks especially in arena where aggro is a very popular archtype on both historic and tineless ladder. Getting rid of a bidy and getting is awesome
I have an overwhelming desire to play Phlage in Jeskai Control
a thing ppl miss about amped raptor is that all cards exiled with it remain exiled
Cranial Ram will not be banned.
Costs twice as much mana, across 2 new colors, doesn't boost toughness (really important for pauper removal), summoning sickness unless you pay 4 the turn your drop it from hand.
It will be good, great even, but I don't think it's anywhere near 1 mana All the Glitters
Important to note that you can imprint drowner of truth onto Ugin’s Labyrinth
thanks for another good video but i have a request, can seth make a video on his thoughts on an azlask commander deck build. it looks amazing and i think that some kind of doubling season style deck would be an insane turn 2 or 3 boardwipe lockdown deck that would be absolutely brutal to deal with
Seth for the MDFC duals, you are missing that these pitch to elementals too. UW control plays subtlety AND solitude, and having a land that also can pitch to either is so busted
Drowner Pitches to Ugin’s Labyrinth
Phlage seems pretty good in boros burn as a finisher I'd play it as a 2 of
MDFCs are so back! I can't wait to see literally all of these in Brawl
It probably isn't enough to make up the difference in power between modern and standard but this Rosheen seems like it could be really nice in a worldsouls rage deck, makes me wonder what other tools modern has to offer that deck specifically or if it would just be a worse amulet titan...
I love having more MDFC
Does Strength of the Harvest’s lore text mean that Karametra was not compleated during the Phyrexian invasion?
I mean compared to the obscene value that Uro pumps out for less effort needed to scratch your arse or even Kroxa’s disruption potential, something about more expensive lighting helix just is kinda eh. And unlike the others color pairs, Boros isn’t exactly known for dumping their deck into the graveyard even after the innovations from Strixhaven and even then, why would you decimate potential graveyard recursion for lighting helix?
Yeah it should have been 2 mana.
Sink into Stupor is going to go nuts
"This might be the worse MDFC"
"That's it- the one I've been waiting for." *Walks it to his stun counter Commander deck that is desperate for anything that lets you stun your own creatures* "Soon, you'll be playable... Just a few more cards..."
That white MDFC...I think you are wayyyyy off on that one. It must be the best of the bunch...maybe the best mdfc yet for 60 card formats? White based agro decks will be able to play 4 of these and be able to always make bad looking attacks because they can use these to even things out, or even just the threat of having one of these in hand kinda does the trick a lot of times. Kinda the first mdfc for agro decks that actually works like an mdfc should. Neat. The green one isn't dissimilar, actually maybe even better now that i realize it can still do the pump effect without any fight targets.
Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker is sooooooo happy today
Disruptor Flute can put T3feri in check.
unrelated to magic, but love the ween shirt!
Charbelcher is back baby
Just wanted to say marionette apprentice is a reference to marionette master :3
Nice video guys! I don't care about MH3000 I play Sorcery: the contested realm now.
Path of annihilation is lowkey crazy. If you have a sol ring/mana crypt and cast this turn two thats 9 mana on turn three with just two cards, pretty nutty ramp
I thought the exact thing for commander. As someone who owns a Raggadragga Scion/Spawn commander deck, I will definitely be buying that card asap.
If cursed mirror is good enough to see cedh play it should be good enough for modern right?
Draft Chaff? There's a legendary common goblin🔥
Tamiyo Meets the Story Circle is much better than draft chaff. It's Kappa Cannoneer AND two Thought Monitors on turn three. If you play it after a Kappa Cannoneer the number of clues it makes can one shot your opponent
How is Roil Cartographer just a jank? Getting energy for land drops look like it has some potential.
Path of Annihilation is not going to be just draft chaff, I don't think. I mean, look at the secondary commander in the Eldrazi deck commander deck. Just seems busted.
Personally do not think the red white titan will see much play. The Detectives Phoenix seems substantially better. Costing only red is a big upside and while collect evidence cannot use lands and zero cost spells bestowing means they have two deal with 2/2 twice. It coming in as a non creature helps the prowess as well. The titan in Mardu seems very unlikely. Sorin just being Rakdos looks way more likely with either the old titan or the phoenix that works very well on Sorin himself to flip him.
Turn 1: Forsaken Miner, Turn 2: Blood Artist, Turn 3: Warren Soultrader, GGs WP???? 👁
Doesn't work out that way cause you need to pay to return Forsaken miner before the ability to make the treasure resolves. That does however work with grave crawler
@@ketchumall8243 You know, I thought about that and wasn't sure so I appreciate the clarification. Thank you!
@radiantburrito to be clear though, this combo still works, just not as cleanly as that cause you need 1 more mana somewhere else to return the miner at the right time before the treasure gets made
Amped Raptor is insane. You don't need to play energy for it to be successful
Phlage *does* generate card advantage and honestly feels more like Uro than Kroxa, because they both gain you 3 life and they both draw you a card... it's just that the card Phlage draws you is always a 0 mana Lightning Bolt, which might actually be better in a lot of cases, because unlike Uro (and Kroxa), Phlage actually affects the board.
Nice way to think about it. He evaluated it like it wouldn't affect the board/stabilize you if need be. On a side note- I hate its name. It sounds too similar to that old black legendary Phage.
This is just incorrect
Commander Horizons 3 looks great.
doesn't amped raptor work the same way as As Foretold?
You can use Waterlogged Teachings in a mono black deck? I thought the card is only allowed in a d eck that is both blue and black?
In commander it has to be in a Blue/Black deck since it is hybrid mana, it counts as both. I think he messed up by saying mono-black, that only works in 60 card formats with color identity rules.
@@andrewfornes5320 Ah I see, thanks! I've only played commander so far, so
@@KillerQueenNL No problem, hybrid cards confused me when I first started in commander. Just remember, if a blue mage has the ability to do it... then the commander must have blue in it. That is how I remembered haha.
Forget fetches, these MDFCs are going to give MH3 sealed product lasting value.
Woo!
The boros titan is a lightning helix? Who'd have thought it. I don't think it'll be bad, but it's super predictable.
For all that don't know, waterlogged teaching is a pun in card design. Instead of flashback, it has land back.
that blue 2/2 bird token is surprisingly expensive so im glad more tokens will come out of this
rosheen going to make hydra's relevant possibly
I just realized that MH3 will contain the 3rd ever common legendary creature.
Isn't path of anihilation the best rampspell printed in modern times? 4 mana that produces 4 mana
Surprised you wrote off Roil Cartographer as chaff
Drink everytime commander is mentioned
Phlage going strait into my mardu torpor orb deck (alr has kroxa)
Sick idea, there's enough of those effects now you can probably find one very consistently. Might I ask what the commander is and some of the best cards to play when ETBs are turned off? I'm assuming stuff like eater of days and the 1 Mana 12/12
@@anonymoususer5351 not a commander deck a modern deck
I was honestly thinking about Torpor Orb in 60 card the other day. Do you play backups to Orb like that creature for 3 mana... the white one?
@@andrewfornes5320 yeah there are a few creatures that work the same way such as hushwing gryff, hushbringer, tocatli honor guard, and doorkeeper thrull. I play 2 copies of doorkeeper thrull because it is just a little better than the rest of them because its 2 mana and has flash and also prevents artifact etbs. I also play 2 copies of strict proctor, which instead of preventing permanent etbs, it counters them unless their controller pays 2, so for example if I have that then sometimes I can pay the 2 to get a solitude or grief etb trigger but let the proctor counter the evoke etb trigger
@andrewfornes5320 there's multiple 2 drop options in white, Stern Proctor and a Thrull from Karlov Manor
Phlage is busted, in kethis it is an alt win con, can be a helix every turn with kethis and if you cast it it hoses your worst matchups
Double strike is better than double power + first strike in... a lot of cases. Damage triggers are a thing.
32:53 its clearly your battery.
