      I really agree, the bright colors looked extremely harsh to me. Her skin is visually soft in texture, and olives generally have a lot of trouble pulling off bright colors. The vivid orange and red both clashed and overpowered her to my eyes.

    The only green I can wear is a dark almost pine green. All other greens make me look sickly GREEN. I’m wondering if there’s something me maybe being lighter olive. Hmm.

      I'm an ultra fair neutral-ish olive (with some peach tones in my face) and one of my best colors is seafoam green, but pine green usually overpowers me. It's funny how different olives can be! Why are we so complicated!?

    • @blessedbee1
      @blessedbee1 Před 3 lety +7

      I'm very fair/pale olive and I can wear emerald green and deeper green (both cooler bottle/pine green and olive) easily, as well as an ocean green. Olive skinned people who look less green than the woman in the video can often wear quite a few shades of green and look fabulous, but I am uncertain if this has any connection with being lighter olive. In general, what I have noticed about olive skinned people is that jewel tones look amazing and that if colours become too bright (both warm and cool) they tend to be a bit overpowering - in my opinion, the bright green the woman in the video is draped in is just too bright for someone with olive skin. Neons, very bright colours, wishy-washy colours, and pastels are not very flattering on people with olive skin regardless of how fair/dark the skin tone is (in my experience).

    • @eswenfava
      @eswenfava Před 2 lety +3

      You could try "gem tones" or "peacock" tones. They usually look lovely on everyone and if you struggle with greens, those tones might help you :)

      The olives that are too light and too warm (yellow based) do the same thing with my skin color. Especially during summer when I have a tan with that grayish greenish tint present. Green has to have a lot of black added to it for me to not have the green look.

  • @patrician3821

    I really really loved your video. I am also brazilian and my colors are just like Barbara’s. By the way it is a common coloring in the southeast of Brazil. We are NOT golden, many of us are olive and that is a real struggle with an industry that insists that since we are of latin descent we must have golden skin. I am happy to say that my last question about myself ( soft or bright) was answered: I too can pull graphic white and black. You also corroborated my opinion that I look great in orange, but not in yellow, warm or muddy tones. It always puzzled me. Thank you a lot, it is very nice to see someone to look like me being analyzed. 🙏🏻

    Great advice on orange! I see people like this woman from time to time wearing bright orange and looking great. In the past, my knowledge of other color systems has made me wonder how it could be that orange is working on bright, cool, and deep. I will say, though, that I didn't mind the green so much. I would recommend a very bright true green, however, perhaps an emerald green. Green reminds me of Benetton, and I think Benetton used to use bright, cool, and deep folks in their ads a lot, did they not?

    This was so interesting, thanks! I have medium olive skin with that very slight green undertone, not as obvious as the lady in the video, but I get many compliments when I wear emerald green or even dark green. I think maybe it suits olive skin better if the green is a true green, with less yellow in (more blue toned green). I find it all very confusing at times, because I like orange or dark brick lipsticks, but can also wear deep cranberry. I struggle mostly with foundation make up, more than clothes. I often add green colouring into face foundation to correct it as they are all too peach, orange, too yellow or too pink usually.

    • @vivellaz
      @vivellaz Před 3 lety

      @Benziar Fadel Thank you so much for your very informative reply! I actually look slightly less warm/less orange than in the photo but if I consider your comments I would say I am a neutral olive leaning slightly warm/golden. I can also wear soft sage greens, they bring out the warmth in my skin and even khaki looks good as well as the stronger greens we spoke of earlier. I so appreciate the trouble you took to give me such a detailed reply, as I have learned from it and now understand that neutral warms are better on me than true warms. Red looks good on me too, but exactly as you say, if I have a very bright red it is just too much and can be garish, whereas when it is a neutral red it looks much better on me. I will most certainly keep your advice in mind going forward, thanks again for your helpful advice!

    • @vivellaz
      @vivellaz Před 3 lety

      @Benziar Fadel Thank you again, your perspective really made me think and I would say I have learned more from your comments than many videos or articles I have read about what would suit me. It never occurred to me that because I have black brows and equally dark eyes and strong bone structure, is why I can carry off dramatic dark colors even in make up. Many years ago I was analysed by someone who used to do 'color me beautiful' who said I was a Winter who could also wear one or two of the deeper autumn colors. I'm still not sure if that was fully accurate, as she also said I should not wear gold and only wear silver, but I like both! I must thank you once more, you have taught me so much! In case you are interested, there is a You Tube channel called Aly Art and she does very interesting videos about face shapes, body types etc.

      My colors are almost identical to the lady’s in the video but I look really good in green. Secret I believe is, like you say, stay away from yellowish greens. I believe the green she tried on the video was the wrong one I wouldn’t ever wear that but emerald looks perfect.

My neck is olive while my shoulders or the thinner parts of my skin are pinkish cool. I assume I'm summer pale but with fair share of some colors from spring pale! Muted ashy colors are no no for me and bolder colors look "floating".

    Excellent video. You could (and should) give Merriam Style a lesson on color analysis! I love the way you overlaid the different colors on the exact same image yet you can clearly see what appears to be a brightening or dulling of the complexion. I wonder what kind of light she used in the image? It looks like daylight but so diffused and shadowless. I can't seem to find that kind of light in my house. I was really confused about the orange because I'm a bright winter who wears orange but have always believed I'm supposed to steer clear of it. It's not my best color but it's certainly wearable for me as long as it's true orange not brick or rusty.

    Thank you. I have very light olive skin tones. I had nearly black hair and deep hazel eyes. I have since grown out the gray. It is, unsurprisingly, salt and pepper. When I look in the mirror now, I see very cool silver hair, but my skin tone looks more yellow. This is confusing. I know I lean cool, and now I need to go a bit lighter with color next to my face but I’m still a bit unsure where to go. I was a Dark Winter.

    That's right and great as always :) I can confirm. She is a Deep bright and Cool. I am also in this category and know why she struggles with warm or cool . Especially the skin and also the eyes are as stated the problem. If you just look at natural hair color you will far easily realize in which category (cool or warm) you more tend to lean...I know I can wear some warm colors and believe it or not a clear orange is okay. A muddy orange not so much. Olive green and Pine Green is okay. Really saturated warm spring green...not so much. Gray and light pastel colors especially I hated the most in the past, now I know why... in the 12 seasonal system, I would have been called a deep winter. Though I gravitated more towards Deep Autumn (here this would be something like Soft Warm and Deep or Bright warm Deep) But since I have had color analysis training and am a color analyst. I know better. :)

    I’m not loving her in the bright pure orange. I see what you’re saying though, because bright cool deep women in your other videos look stunning in this clear medium true orange. I think the difference is that the other women have deeper skintones than this woman does. I wasn’t even crazy about her in the white but black looked fantastic on her. I still get confused with the difference between high contrast and high depth. I know you keyed her depth off her hair and eyes but she seemed more high contrast than high depth due to the lightness of her skin.
    I was classified as a Summer when I was younger but now I’m going grayer, I get compliments when I wear black & white, it matches my salt & pepper hair. I don’t know if a person can go from low contrast to high contrast but it looks like that has happened to me.
