    Every time I go down to the Prince Charles Cinema since I was at this screening, I’ll be writing down on the request board for a double feature of Bait and The Lighthouse in 35mm.

    The most absorbing, original and satisfying film I've seen in years. Can't wait to go back and watch it again. Why hasn't it won every award in the world? Liz

    I started watching this only having read the plot, not knowing anything else. What first seemed like an obstacle later turned out to be just what made the film as mesmerizing as it was.

    Central theme? A dichotomy, locals versus second-home owners, with the viewer baiting (excuse pun) for Martin the foul-mouthed, monosyllabic anti-hero played totally deadpan by Edward Rowe. Enjoyable.

    Just say it Mark, it's about losing our culture

      So annoying. They are scared to say the truth, it’s about the destruction of the native British people from their villages...by Chinese tourists that are buying it all up. It’s depressing stuff. It’s turning into a “west world” theme Park, but no natives because they are pushed out, so it’s all tourists pretending to live like the native English villagers...they are destroying what they actually love. Oh the irony.

      @@hanniffydinn6019 Hi there, native Cornishman here, Cornwall has barely any Chinese tourists, barely comparable any other race in the whole of the county, the people who are destroying our culture and county are Northern upper class and wealthy brits, who think of Cornwall as nothing more than a nice seaside view, and buy all the land up for fancy restaruants and condos for other wealthy people. It's not a racial nor social thing, it's a wealth thing, which is what one of the main messages of the movie is about. Cornwall was never supposed to be a playground for the rich.

    • @hanniffydinn6019
      @hanniffydinn6019 Před 4 lety +1

      Jelly Penguini I concur, give you some context, at the time of writing, I was learning all about how the Chinese are buying up EVERYTHING all over the world, the property in USA, Australia, UK etc. Is owned by wealthy Chinese... hence my “Chinese” is just “wealthy elite” really. In counties like Vietnam only local natives can buy property/land legally. Something needs to be done, otherwise the wealthy elite gentrification will NEVER stop. Natives like you need to come together and FIGHT to get the laws changed. Otherwise nothing changes.
