I can tell you seriously that Attack on Titan is perhaps my favorite anime series in the world. It’s perhaps one of my favorite series in general, regardless of genre. Attack on Titan is a story that keeps you guessing, is layered, and the perfect conjunction of storytelling, artstyle, and music. It blurs the line between heroes and villains, makes you ask what it means to be free, what the cost of freedom is, the corruption of power. If there is something wrong with the world, Attack on Titan somehow covers it and makes it a part of its lore. Heroes and villains, everything becomes grey, and hatred and war itself become a well oiled machine that even those wielding it cannot control it. Even Eren comes to the realization that no matter what he does, the Rumbling always happens, 80% of humanity will always perish. Whether its him doing it, or whether he runs away with Mikasa, it would be Marley doing it, and this time, all of his friends will die. The series posses a question without explaining the answer. Given and impossible choice, the hero must either become the devil to save those he loves, or let his heart hold him back and find the world destroyed with his friends gone as well, all for an extra four years of peace and a close to clean conscience. And even after Eren, war remains. Eren himself states himself to be a garden variety idiot with too much power, and that is just him attempting to explain how powerless he is. He’s not smart enough to fight his way out of a paper bag, let alone a 4th dimensional event cemented by fate. Whatever your belief is on the ending of the series, one can be pleased that we at least got closure in seeing the end of the journey together, and I can say for certain that one day, when I am old and my children and grandchildren have come of proper age, I will introduce them into this series and watch their faces light up, because this is a once in a life time anime that can never be replicated, can never be replaced. And so, in honor of such a grand series, I am going to create the final, true, complete timeline of Attack on Titan.

What if luffy had the dragon fruit 🍎
What if Armin was the Armored Titan?
What if Grisha never took his sister Faye pass the gate?
What if naruto had sukuna instead of kurama and I think how this works, since we don't know much about jugos clan. Maybe sukuna will be the perfect example of how Jugo's clan was created and maybe has his own version of six paths sage mode after absorbing remnants of the ten tails chakra after hogoromo and hamura defeated kaguya.
This story happened because Ymir freed the pigs.
It would have happend anyway cuz ymir went back to the past and told herself about the future and thats where the whole plan started even if she didnt free the pigs she would have found a way to get the titan
When did they state this?
@@hbluemole6941 After binging the series in 2 days my opinion is the same cause for Eren not changing/being unable to change is w/e you want to define as "free will", in Ymir's case its impossible to have a "starting point" in the series, akin to our understanding of the universe, we like to agree on the whole big bang theory because it gives us a starting point, its very hard (imho) to understand something that has no beggining and no end. Back to the series, we're never shown there to be a point in time of being "first" and going back to "the past", the show insists on past&future (on the powers of the founding) to simply always "be".
In the case of Ymir she loved and wants to be loved, something she ultimately fullfills through the eyes of Mikasa, but for any of this to happen she must "open the pig door", because her desire is love, her nature is that, there are no buttons to press to change facts about one's nature.
Its complex to try and understand since the timeline is supposedly only one, which a founding can comprehend it by always existing everywhere, such so that if a powerless one gets their hand on such power they can see all time... at all the times and it all happens .... all the time, hence basically removing any notion of "past" "future" its just "is/present" what we see as the viewer is timelinve of events. So Ymir is always opening the pig gate because of love she knows will happen, there is no knowledge of alternate posbility "can there be no love for her if she doesn't open the gate?" because its not possible due to her nature, exactly the same thing as with Eren, his desire is for those he cares about to achieve THEIR dreams and as such will always make choices towards that goal, which happens to be the the rumbling is the answer, and for that to happen everything else has to happen as it has already happen as is always happening.
The things that bother me in the series is that Eren does say he tried to change things, but nothing is ever shown, implying, at the very least, changes can happen, they just don't yield results, however I don't like this much as its very hard to explain or no explanation is possible. What can be explained is that what we see as events unfolding already have any changes Eren could want, so no alternate timeline required, however it messess with the notion of all happening at the same time, there can be no knowledge of "what if I don't make myself a titan through my father", so what changes are there in the end?
It helps that in the anime it shows a very human selfish Eren, "he wants to" do the rumbling his wants, his desire for his friends to be happy is his nature, thus all the time his choices will always be those of what he knows to yield in the "future" the happiness of his friends. The deterministic future is their nature of their so called "free will", which is a paradoxical equation.
In the end, both Ymir and Eren will/would/are always doing the choices for their desires, thus determining events such as they were/are/will be. At least during their existence.
@@hbluemole6941 i think he is refering to the scene from the last episode where Ymir frees the pig on purpouse with the smile on her face
@@Gabriel_Antunovic But all of this happening it IS because Ymir freed the pig. If she hadn’t, she wouldn’t had ran into the woods and discovered hallucigenia (the original titan thing in the tree). So how would she still go into the future to gain titan powers, if titan powers weren’t even discovered until she went into the tree. It never would’ve happened if she ignored her humanity by freeing the pig, which I think is purposefully ironic.
I don't think Eren was hoping to deter future war-he knew the cycle would continue, but wanted short term peace for his friends to experience
It seemed like it was about 500 years of peace idk why people act like it was only like 70 years of peace or something
yup exactly. and to confirm the safety of his friends he made them seem like heroes
That and he took away titans entirely. He took away the sin that drove everyone to oppress Eldians and drove as much of humanity into the dirt to keep Paradise Island safe.
He turned everyone that was converted, back into humans, and took away all the titan shifters, releasing them from the death clock that comes with becoming a titan shifter.
@@josho9840no, it was just to ensure that all of his friends lived long and full lives
He wanted his friends to live long, FREE and be seen as heroes. That was his goal and he succeeded.
Remember when we thought this was a simple story 😭
remember when the titans were the biggest mystery outside the walls 😭😭
RIP innocence 😂😅
I still think it is 😂
THANKS FOR ALL THE LIKES EVERYONE
no one really thought that, even at release i dont recall anyone making a point of assuming it would be simple
"A certain genocidal maniac from the future shows up and tells him to 'tatakae'" 😭😭😭
What I love about AoT is that it doesn't really have a traditional villain. A lot of people stand with Eldia against Marley because those are the people we've grown fond of and Marley are just straight up jerks, but in reality, Eldia are not the good guys, and neither is Marley, both sides are equally bad. We just root for Eldia cuz we love the people there.
Just like in the real world, also note that the victor will ALWAYS be the one that wrote the history, because for one, nobody would even consider to hear the “bad guy” side, since theyre the “bad guy”. It don’t take much to control the narrative either with media
I agree that Attack on Titan is unique in that it doesn't have a traditional villain. The series does a great job of blurring the lines between good and evil, and it forces viewers to question their own assumptions about who the "good guys" and "bad guys" are.
Eldia and Marley are both portrayed as complex and morally ambiguous societies. Eldia has a long history of oppression and violence, but it is also home to many innocent people who are simply trying to survive. Marley, on the other hand, is a powerful nation that has long sought to exterminate the Eldians, but it also has its own internal struggles and conflicts.
The series' exploration of morality and the gray areas of war is one of its most compelling aspects. It forces viewers to confront the difficult realities of conflict and to question their own beliefs about what is right and wrong.
Just like in a recent war. We like a certain country because of a certain book
Well, that happens even in real life, people choose Ukraine or Russia, Palestine or Israel as if they were soccer teams.
Exactly what i thought watching the 4 season. We grown fond of Falco, and get to know Marley.
And then Armin explodes the harbor, and even he realizes the same thing, there really ain't no right side. Falco and Gaby were just as innocent as Eren and Armin was, when Berthold made a hole into the wall.
Man this show had me on my feet. The loss... the gain...the hurt...and pain.
100th like
Your lack of intelligence is literally why you can't realize how awful this manga/anime is🤦♂️..
Same bro. Imma miss AOT 😔
Reminds me of a DMX lyric
I thought this animation was very similar to Evangelion. And it is developing the narrative in exactly the opposite political direction
I think this animation justifies fascism. So I don't agree with this animation's message. But I enjoyed watching it anyway🤷♂️
After ww2, Japan was limited in military power by the United States and became a lot of economic and social experimental sites. monetary policy, fiscal policy, quantitative easing etc..
So Japan served as a leading indicator for many capitalist Western countries. So, the meaning that the attack titan can see the future symbolizes Japan, which acts as an avant-garde for other countries
The fact that they are leading the way does not mean that they can see the future, change or decide. That's why Eren said he was stupid at the end
In the course of the experiment, Japan's traditional and family values collapsed, and society became depressed. The gloomy atmosphere of Japanese culture in the 1990s and 2000s arose after the collapse of the bubble economy in the 1980s
Evangelion and AOT. Both animations are developing narratives based on Japanese society after the collapse of the bubble economy
So I thought this was a significant message from Japan to Western society. And I didn't understand why Westerners like this. But the show was fun 🤷♀️
I think the meaning of rumbling is the return of state monopoly capitalism. Or national capitalism something like that. And I don't think Western liberal civil society is prepared for such fascism
The expansion of capitalism leads to imperialism. And imperialism calls big wars. Reset and start over. So only innocent young people died in ww1 and ww2 🤷
And AOT's narrative justifies that cycle of capitalism
End of Evangelion tried to end it.
That is the difference between the two animations.
the story of "Ymir" reflects the og Ymir, betrayed by her people, sent to her doom, but ended up finding power instead. both also end up sacrificing themselves for love in a way.
Nice catch! Especially the part where the "priests" pointed fingers at young ymir when they got caught. But I find Mikasa to be the closest in "soul" to ymir, if that makes sense
@@sameris6581 yeah they are same cause they loved someone who did not really deserve it and struggled against their own instincts.
@@dunamisd wow i just finished the anime I cant believe I was right lol
Eren's ultimate goal was NOT to rid of war for future years to come, not even the years when his friends are still alive. His goal was to ensure that all his friends would live long and full lives, hence why he had to get rid of the Titan power, to end Ymir's suffering and to get rid of Ymir's curse for Armin, Reiner, and Annie. Eren's ultimate reason for the Rumbling was because he saw that if the rumbling hadn't started in time, Marley and the world would have came and eradicated all of Paridis Island, including all of his friends. This is why Eren had no other reason but to start the Rumbling.
Very very true
I just realized that grisha was right when he said eren, from that day forward, would get his way. Because although he rumbling didn't erase all of humanity, it wasn't his ultimate goal. Instead, he wanted to eradicate all titans from the face of the earth, framing it so that armin and the rest of the eldians would get praise from stopping the rumbling that HE caused. it all comes full circle.
When Sasha died, I knew things were gonna be bad from now on.

Two big things about the ymir and historia moment in the snow storm. 1) I think that was during their training as it was endurance training so not after graduation 2) ymir doesn’t actually reveal her Titan nor does historia reveal her name, they simply promise to someday tell each other their truths. And they later do ♥️
yeah i was confused as to why he said that it was after they graduated

Yeah. And also Eren doesn't plug the wall after his first titan transformation. He also doesn't "realize" he can transform, he does so by accident.

Fun observation - the pig's ears are shown on the Attack Titans designs as well (elf like) and perhaps that feature is a call back to the "escaped" pig that goes against the captivity they were held to.
Great video. Let me still nitpick, please ;)
You said at 4:00 that the tree was in Marley. This information is never given, we don't know where the tree was. Given that Ymir most likely was brought back to Eldia after being captured and found the tree while on the run it is more likely that the tree was in Eldia.
You said at 4:30 that Ymir was from Marley. This information is never given. Marley doesn't come into play until after Ymir became a titan, so it's more likely that Ymir was from just some other people.
You said at 9:00 that Karl Fritz and the Tyburs conspired to banish the Founding Titan. That is wrong. He WAS the Founding Titan, he could have just gone. But, the Marleyans needed a hero figure to look up to and think Eldia was still a threat so they'd become stronger. That's why they created Helos as a hero. The Tyburs in turn became the rulers and had good relationships to all the nations.
You said at 9:30 that King Fritz turned at least 500.000 Eldians into the titans for the wall. This is not factual or even known at all. It was never said how the wall titans came to be. It could also have been the founder being able to create them from nothing, or using dead Eldians like Ymir did with the previous shifters etc.
You said at 10:10 that the Ackermann clan was separated from the Founders power and their combat powers granted by the Founding titan. This is just completely wrong. The ackermanns were a result of Eldian / Titan experiments and were a warrior bloodline protecting the king. They awaken powers and then just "know what to do" without the Founding Titan playing ANY part in that. In fact, they were persecuted for refusing King Fritz' ideology and not being affected by the memory wipeout.
You said at 13:50 Kenny wanted the power of the founder for himself, which is only part of what he wants. He wants the power because he wants to know if having this power would result in him being as compassionate as Uri was. This is the root of his motivation.
You said at 16:55 that Marcel has "taken his brother down to give Reiner a chance" which is not correct. He TALKED his brother down to whoever decided who would inherit a titan because he didn't want his brother to die after 13 years. He didn't give a shit about Reiner.
You said at 19:56 that Grisha went to the Reiss because he heard of the wall being attacked. That is not correct. Grisha went there because of what Eren said (all the deaths will be in vain...) and because he saw that the wall would be attacked AT SOME POINT in the future memories of Eren. He didn't learn of the attack until after he killed the Reiss family. He even says to Eren, after he killed the Reiss, "why don't you show me everything? the wall being attacked... the day it happens... if carla is safe...", so by this point he doesn't know that the attack already happened.
You said at 20:04 that Grisha "fails" to attack the Reiss. He doesn't "fail" he decides against it because he doesn't want to kill kids.
You said at 21:25 that Ymir showed Historia her titan transformation and Ymir learned Christas real name during a massive snowstorm. That is not correct. During the snowstorm Ymir saved a guy by transforming into a titan, but neither Historia nor the guy see it or know it. Historia only learns about Ymir being a titan when they are in the Castle Utgard that is overrun by titans, which you talk about at 24:35. Historia reveals her true name to Ymir at this exact moment as well.
You said at 24:20 that Reiner and Bertholdt were startled when they were asked why they were so surprised. They weren't asked this until after they captured Eren. Ymir asked them while they were in the woods.
You said at 32:38 that they took it to a warf off paradise, but they took it to a port in a coastal city in the southeast run by the Azumibitos
General: You completely left out that Ymir loved King Fritz, therefore continued to obey him in and after death and was only released by Mikasa killing Eren. Eren saw that Mikasa would end the power of the titans, but didn't see how, because what he saw ended with his death.
Do you happen to have asperger or autism
Yea another important aspect is when Armin realized that eren wanted to make the ppl of paradis the heros that saved 20% of population and defeated eren and break the genocide as marleyans realize they shouldn’t have forced history that the éldians didnt even know abt and make them responsible for their ancestors sins
Amazing job, thanks for making this. Gonna love Attack on titan Forever, what an ending, I will never forget how everything came a full circle.
Was the ending actually good? Just a bunch of nihilism.
Rick and Morty does the same thing. But even that manages to show the importance of people. So it's still a little heart felt.
What you said at the beginning is what I always tell people even those who don’t watch anime. “Attack on Titan is my favorite anime of all time, and is in my top favorite shows of any medium even live action”. It’s up there for me with Breaking Bad, both have insane foreshadowing, complex characters and storylines, ask difficult questions of its view, have unbelievably amazing writing, and have main characters that shift from hero to villain. I honestly don’t know if there will be another anime/manga like it. It is truly a masterpiece. As an aspiring writer though, it’s really defeating that it exists though, all I can think about is I can never write a story this interesting, complex, foreshadowy, action packed, and just perfect.
i haven't been into anime for maybe 6 or 7 years now but it's the only show i've kept up with. been watching since it started airing!! it's absolutely incredible and the finale made me cryyyyyy like a bitch 😂
true. majority of people associate anime with the "hehe, haha", tits, and hentai. it's rare for an anime to have a deep level of storytelling. i quit watching anime decades ago bcs of the bs anime trope(cough SAO cough) but decided to give anime another chance with AOT. boy was i lucky. i just want to say as someone who primarily consume western media, AOT really surprised me with its complexity.
21:38 "the two start a strong friendship together." ehhh idk if i would call their relationship friendship lol. it was heavily implied they liked each other romantically.
a lot of descriptions in this video are weirdly inaccurate / incomplete lol
Bro, I think the two endings were from the decision of Ymir Fritz after concluding Mikasa's choice. After seeing her kill Eren, she made up her mind to not be slaved forever. After Mikasa told Ymir that her love was a nightmare, then it flashed a scene that Ymir didn't save King Fritz at that time. So there are two endings. One that is the true route of the Aot timeline (Ymir saving King Fritz) causing the world where there are titans, and second is when Ymir didn't save King Fritz causing the titan powers to not get passed down to her daughters (world without titans). So maybe, just maybe there was a timeline where titans don't exist and the characters were just having a normal happy life.
All the dry humor and inside jokes in this were impeccable😂😂 love this video thanks so much, I had quite a few questions and some stuff I couldn’t remember from previous seasons. This helped with my misunderstandings and helps me appreciate the ending even more without having to actually go back and watch all 90-something episodes, cause I ain’t got time for that shit😂 it’s been a hell of a ride, my cousin introduced this series to me not long after it was out when I was in 4th grade LMAO, so for about 10 years I’ve been keeping up with the series/manga. How awesome it was, love all of the themes and Isayamas statement about the world and the human condition. This story has so much to offer and I’ll forever love and return to it. Thanks again for your breakdown🙏🏼
Dude this is insane you explain it perfectly

Small mistake at 32:38 - they didn't take it to another warf off paradise, they took it to a port in a southeastern coastal city run by the Azumibito family.
He said "off of Paradise" so he meant somewhere NOT on Paradise
Hajime Isayama was once asked, "What does freedom mean to you?" And Isayama replied with, "I don't know." 😂
Just thought i would point out a small mistake. Ymir's people who were conquered by king fritz weren't marleyans, they were just some other group of people. The marleyans wouldnt come into play until after Ymir had the power of the titans
This was really well done

22:35 the scouts did not attempt to return to shiganshina. the public reason was the expedition was to assess eren's capabilities and usefulness. the behind the scenes reason was to root out the moles within the survey corp, those who killed seany and bean
Excellent work
the content of the new chapter has been revealed a while ago. It's called 'bad boy' and is about Levi's childhood (a few sketches of it have been revealed too)
great summary!
Only in the last season Eren tells to Armin that he actually loves Mikasa. But he never tried to tell her nor show her, she was with him her whole life without him ever trying to be with her. The show does a great job to portray the love of a friend and family but not really the romantic love, Armin and Annie are also an example and not just Eren with Mikasa.
Bro you ever heard of the word fear ? That's why non of them tried shit with the environment and situation they lived in
Because Eren wouldnt have went for the founder titan powers if Mikasa told him love. If Mikasa/Eren says they love each other they go to cottage and marleyans destroy other paradise island people like armin etc.
that opening hit me like ton of bricks being familiar with this account. i am so hyped and grateful for what i'm about to see.

8:18 Anyone else so traumatized by the 2020s that this line had their neck almost break from the “fantasy story to reality story” whiplash?
What if Eren used the Founding Titan to travel back in time and stop Ymir from taking a spear?
I thought about that too. But imagine thats a anchor point of some point. Like even if she didn't get hit with the spear she still die
i mean if none of that happen wouldn’t eren not even exist to do the time travel? like trying to kill your ancestor
Everything's already pre-determined. Eren wouldn't be able to change the outcome.
If Ymir hadn't died, her dead body wouldn't have been cut up and fed to the children of the king who later had their kids, and hence starting this whole race of "subjects of Ymir". Eren is too a subject of Ymir so if Ymir didn't die that day, Eren wouldn't have existed
Well he should have ‘not existed’ for the sake of humans
VERY GOOD STORYTELLING AND SUMMARY
Solid video bothered me more than it should have when he said Ymir showed Historia her titan during the snowstorm
One important thing is missing towards the end: how Ymir the Founder was released when Mikasa killed Eren. Otherwise excellent video.
2013 me: this is a badass anime I wonder how the Titans were made and what's behind the wall
Me now: what is freedom and who is good and bad we may never know
a minute and 30 seconds in and this is one of the most insane interpretations of the story i've ever heard. I mean like everyone is entitled to their own view but damn
was it ever explained how it went from 1 titan, to 3, to 9, and didn’t go past 9? I always wondered how that happened and why they stopped multiplying. And did 1 of ymir’s daughters get the founding titan, or did they get three of their own? And if so how did the founding titan get passed down?
I'm pretty sure each of Ymir's 3 daughters got one titan, and then each daughter grew up and had 3 of their children, causing the 3 titans to split up into 9. I'm not sure why it stopped splitting up from there, though
this is not given information, but I'd think the amount of titans couldn't surpass the number of different abilities ymir had. Each titan has their ability and their special trait and there are 9 each so further splitting was not possible. How the founding titan got passed down initially wasn't revealed as well, but it's safe to assume that one of her daughters inherited the abilities that would later on be split into the founding titan and two others. like Ymir -> has all the powers; her daughters -> ymirs powers split into them; their daughters -> ymirs daughters powers split into them. probably after that it was the way we know it from present times.
@@arsehole3528 Why the eating? if it didnt continue later why was it needed
@@TheMehukas it's not really explained, but it's safe to assume that the power was transfered to Ymir when the parasite connected to her spine in the water, so the ability is transfered to the next person by ingesting the spinal fluid. they did not have to eat ymir whole, but King Fritz didn't know that so he made them eat her completely. Fritz probably didn't even know if eating her would transfer her powers and gambled.
boycotted this show for stupid reasons until 2 weeks ago. i finished today.
this is one of the best fictional stories ever. by far
ps watched dubbed until final chapters and sub version is far superior
Amazing video! You have my sub! hehe. I have a request.. is it possible for me to get like a good trasncript of this video for my essay? the current transcript in youtube is not accurate. Thank you!
31:58 'Zeke displays why every boy should play catch with his father'
LMAOOOOOO that sent me 😂😂
The final episode was beautiful
For new generation of anime it’s definitely top 10 💯
Pls continue posting what ifs
Any chance we can get some "AOT What if's" like you do with Naruto? My suggestion "what if the Marley 3 didn't attack paradise?"
War never changes
can someone please tell me from where the clip in 7:28 is? I don't remember that scene from the series.
It takes your breath away
I have no idea what i just watched. That went so fast.
I was crying when I watched the last ep
"Certain genocidal Maniac from the future" got me 😂
gosh the twists and turns are too much for my brain to handle
my brain is malfunctioning real hard
plz help
attack on titan story is just as great as the full metal alchemist BUT the way the anime for attack on titan is done is hella confusing especially cause the timeline keep going back and fort
Bro just explained the whole Attack On Titan through the whole time skip topic👀
I called it when Erin first broke bad , they were going to do the Lelouch code Geasse ending were he was the defeated “bad guy” and his friends would be the hero’s who saved the world.
Reverse Martyrdom
Greatest show of all time
So basically all of this happened because the titan that ate Eren doesn't chew his food
Nah all of it happened cuz Ymir have freed that pig
Sooo, here is a thought: Ymir was transformed into a titan because the hallucigenia gave her what she needed to survive but the boy that we see at the end of the series doesnt need a strong body to fight because he is not being attacked so maybe he will become something else??
Well, you should do a what if that is what is there was no war in Naruto
My favourite anime❤
Imagine rain was a Ackerman founding titanic. Eren would stand no chance
Feel bad for people who havent seen aot and want to watch it but have already seen like a 100 spoilers already, i was somehow lucky enough to not see almost any spoilers catching the show in 2017
I was so lucky I ignored everything until it was finished and I watched it.
(How did I avoid spoilers? Easy. I became interested but I didn't search for anything, so no one knew that spoiling me would be a shame. Also, if I'd seen anything I wouldn't have remembered anything probably)
I dropped this anime a while back, damn didn’t expect that ending but I probably won’t watch it again
Madness this never ends, how can people watch this 😢
a boy and his dog walks into the tree
ADVENTURE TIME CMON GRAB YOUR FRIENDS
Attack on Titan will forever be one of my favourites and is now my 2nd favourite anime only being behind by One Piece but still it's such a great anime
I stopped watching AOT in 2014 because I was so traumatized by all the deaths😭😭😭I just finished the whole things after almost 10 years and this has become one of my favorite anime’s of all time!!! The storyline, the twists and turns, the ability to pull emotions!!! A true masterpiece and I have to rewatch it at LEAST 1000 times 😭😂😂😭😭😭
There seems to be multiple theories with how Eren killed his mom, I’m going to guess it has to do with different timelines in the anime vs manga but Isayama hasn’t explained any of that yet I think.
Finally🎉
Watching this after just finishing it
