I've watched you with Doug Linker doing the coffee show together. I've been watching him for a long time. He's why I got started. But I've watched others too. But I like what you have done on wood carvings.
Thanks A lot Jack!
Loved this one, more free flow, creating on the go, fun, fun, fun. Thanks, i carve walking sticks but I have gotten into a rut, this challenged me. Thanks again.
Very much appreciate the comment! My pleasure
Alec, another thing I haven't seen many carvers use a sloyd knife. But I really like how you used that knife.
Thanks a lot!
You’re a true artist, therefore you have different approaches that still results in amazing work. I am a beginner and have been watching a lot of videos, for some reason watching you and especially this has helped me understand the cutting process better. Your a great teacher Alex, thanks for all your time, amazing!
That means a lot! Thank you Phyllis!
Really nice. Appreciate your enthusiasm to simplicity and teaching us beginners especially after seeing some of your other carvings. You are very talented and sure hope you continue this content
Thank you very much!!
Yes sir. You are doing good work my brother. Appreciate you
Appreciate you too! @@bige5565
Nice walking stick wood spirit
Thanks!
Great video and excellent project (you're getting almost as good as Doug😉). I appreciate the one/two tool projects.
Thanks for the tips.
Thanks 👍
Loooove it. Turned out so amazing. Just starting on woodcarving myself. Watching this before I go to sleep is so relaxing 💕 thank you
Thank you! Glad to hear it's relaxing! !
Very good instructional video. Helps how you talk each cut through. Have to say the end result looked fantastic for the time it took. A must watch for any one looking to carve a good wood spirit.
Thanks Tony!
Oh, thanks, Alec
Absolutely brilliant 👏 great to watch and very very informative.
Thanks for this, certainly gives you the enthusiasm to try and do it as well as you do.
Cheers Les.
Thank you!!
High Alec, after watching you carve that piece of work I'm afraid that you are fully responsible for me spending £40 quid.
Yes I've ordered a skew knife from my pfeil supplier here in the UK.
It's ok though I did not have one anyway 🙃 lol.
Keep them coming mate.
Cheers Les.
Delightful. Thank you.
Thank you Susan!
Je suis vraiment fan de ton travail
That was thoroughly enjoyable!
Thank you!!!
Awesome job ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much 😀
I just carved my first face along with you and this was immensely helpful. Mine looks a bit alien but that’s ok - no rush- better next time! Thank you!
So glad to hear! I enjoy your channel and your silversmithing!
@@AlecLaCasseArt I appreciate that cos I feel I’m in the ‘your first 100 videos will be horrible’ stage 🤣🤣 It can only get better 👍

Thanks so much Lisa! Will do!

Thanks ! Might have to do it
Hi from Quebec. Cool carve funny to watch.
Thank you!!
Brilliant 👍
The timing of this video is awesome , I’ve just started carving wood spirits on storm damaged branches . I’ve done two but my next will be even better after following your tips 👍
Much thanks , very helpful.
Ah! That's awesome! No problem
A good "Practical" carve Alec; Thank You! I subscribed to Woodcarving academy this year, I need to subscribe to you.
Awesome, thank you! Yeah! Check it out: www.aleclacasse.com/online-woodcarving-school
Phenomenal work man, this looks spectacular! So nicely executed video 👌👌
Thank you! Cheers!
Nicely done, I actually learned a couple more things to try to see if it helps me be a little faster or easier. Thanks and take care
Good to hear! You too!!
Excelente video!! Me gustaría en español.
Thanks for the video. This will help with my face carves. I recently had to have 6 big willows felled on our property. Going to be learning to use a chainsaw, so lots of practice wood. Power carving willow, it's a fuzzy wood, but I'll try it with some hand tools too. Willows are famous for being self pruning trees, meaning they drop their branches regularly. So if you need some wood, ask someone that has willows if you can clean up the dropped branches for them. The willows in my yard are always shedding branches.
Great point! Enjoy your willow practice!!
Haven't tried Willow Wood, but if I get a chance, I will. I'm still learning trial and error. A lot of errors but the pictures sound like a excellent idea. Thanks
No problem! Give it a shot’
Jumping In again, I carved your flower and it turned out good not great but good 😂 thanks
I’m sure it is beautiful! No problem!
I love you❤❤❤
Love what your doing with the art of wood. I live close to you and want to know if you do carving classes in person? Would love to meet one day
Sure thing! Shoot me an email: alec@aleclacasse.com
Hey Alec ! what kind of willow tree is it ? I looked up willow and it gave me different options . Ty urs looks awesome
Daniel! I don’t know !
Alec just watching this one again, and the penny dropped, just wondering why you used your scew knife for removing the bark 🤔?
I would and would have thought that you might have used a sloyd knife for the initial removal, any dirt or grit possibly being present.
My scew knife arrived yesterday ( Thursday 2nd May )
What a beauty it is too ,little touch up on the strop and it's amazingly sharp and beautiful fine preesice cuts ,glad that i watched your video.
Now need to find some suitable wood to try getting a face correct.
Thanks again buddy 👍
Cheers mate Les.
Hey Les, I like the way you think! Just happened to want to keep it to one tool for this video! Often have a sacrificial tool for rough outer stuff like you say!
I'm always afraid the bark of the wood will harm the knife and dull it out. Do you usually polish it up after clearing the area?
It doesn't hurt to strop throughout!

Looks like a Swiss bevel…. What is the name of that knife….? Lovely
A skewed Flexcut knife. I believe it’s in my description
Hi mate, great video as always, I was wondering tho... a lot of carvers are concerned about Doug Linker, he's been off youtube / IG for quite some time. Maybe just taking a break but do you know if he's ok ?! in good health etc ?
He’s good!
And thank you!
🎉😂❤❤❤
Alec, you have mad skills, however, this is a beginner tutorial, this just my humble opinion, you should be wearing a glove on your left hand, just sayin...........
Heard captain!
Dude, I can imagine most people watching these videos are adults or kids so will be supervised by an adult. They'd have to be intellectually challenged if they can't make the decision to wear it not to wear a glove.
Leather glove is best? Curious to know.
