    Grasshopper B-Sides:
A video series that chronicles the lesser known titles in Grasshopper Manufacture's game catalog. In the fourth episode, I'll be discussing the remake of Flower, Sun and Rain - which is a direct sequel to The Silver Case. I'll be comparing the Original PS2 release to the DS Remake.

Probably my favorite Suda51 game, simply cause Suda dials down the insanity and violence from his other games and creates a more beautiful and easygoing atmosphere while still retaining those moments of Sudas surrealism and intriguing characters. Plus, the fact it ties in to The Silver Case is also incredible, as I had just finished it before playing FSR. Seriously, some of those connections totally caught me off guard.

FSR aged better over time. I played this during launch and had no idea about the Kill The Past series or SC connections. It's charming, but also tedious.

Hikikomori Media Absolutely agree with you Hikikomori. It’s less interesting if you haven’t played the Silver Case, as some of those connections totally blew my mind. I honestly did like how it is tedious, as it makes you appreciate the atmosphere and beautiful world more. It’s kinda like the death stranding before death stranding was made, in the sense that it’s tedious, but still intriguing and captivates you.

About kusabi's silver eye, at the end of the SIlver Case Kusabi head to an investigation involving mayor hachisuka (they guy with the silver eyes), never to be seen again as stated in the extra prologue.
We also the on the second extra prologue that Tokio has one silver eye, so Im guessing that something happened at the scene of crime and both Tokio and Kusabi took one silver eye each.

I had never played a game worked on by Suda51 before this game. Got to say, this is one of my favourite games. I really enjoy the de-make vibe, and the fact that it's on the DS is just extremely amusing to me. I actually feel the DS was a good suit for this game as the bottom half of the screen is useful for taking notes with the stylus (I suppose if you look up a guide this isn't relevant). As for the difficulty of the puzzles, most of it really isn't math. There's some basic addition, and a few instances with algebra, but the rest is reading the guidebook to find some string of numbers: really not that bad. I looked up a guide for the difficult puzzles, but the rest was easy to figure out.
Contrary to your views on the game, the first 13 chapters or so were some of the most amusing, charming moments I have had with a video game. I really enjoyed the stories of the individual characters, and I loved that 'homey' vibe as you put it. It was a really comfy game, and I loved the setting. The ending however was incredibly confusing and detracted from the experience overall. I'm sure for fans of the other games it's interesting, and some of it is understandable from an outsider perspective, but overall I wish that this was a completely stand alone experience. I also very much appreciated how this was a straight adventure game with little violence: the gameplay of Killer 7 is a huge turn off for me as I don't like the idea of shooting people in a game.

I remember playing it several times to grind out those fucking Lost & Founds and the pedometer bonuses (had to clamp my d-pad with a clothespin and leave the DS running overnight, ffs), and each time I'd get completely baffled by act 3, because without the prior knowledge of Silver Case, the ending of FSR is borderline incomprehensible. Now that I finally got to play through the English translation of Silver Case, maybe I should really try to pay Lospass another visit and book myself an extended stay at the good ol' FSR. 😎🍹

FSR and Silver Case both have this weird thing where someone will tell you this crazy plot/world changing thing, only for someone later to say "lol, no that's wrong and not what is actually happening" For someone with an ape brain like myself it makes it really hard to even grasp what's going on. Still love both these games, great vid!

@@HikikomoriMedia It wasn't Killer7 (still my favourite of the bunch I guess) levels of pure raw unfiltered awesomeness, but the absurdities were definitely just about on par. Perhaps more blatantly absurd. I mean, the pink crocodile search, the lady under the bed, the kid being so sure he wouldn't get smacked because otherwise the game would get a harder time being rated and then he gets smacked from 3 different camera angles... And that just some of the stuff I immediately remember without thinking too hard.
