This is a stain to the sf fire dept and its brand and image. Justice must be served. Thank you for uncovering the underbelly or in this case just a clear vicious crime and neglect by the city government and departments absolutely disgraceful. The leadership at the fire dept seems racist as well so I hope that the victim gets justice

      SFFD and SFPD playbook with stuff like this is to drag their own investigation out for so long that locals can't even remember it, then quietly dismiss any charges or let them off with a slap on the wrist. Even with federal jurisdiction that SFPD lab tech that was sampling evidence only got a year of home confinement and 5 years probation (and I heard she single-handedly wrecked dozens of prosecutions that were otherwise airtight). If I remember correctly, she 'retired' just before being indicted, with full benefits.

They seem to want social workers to be deployed if someone is "in crisis" regardless of the danger involved. Also, most of the areas in California want all guns banned for use for any reason. With the size mismatch here and the fact that he had a weapon, a gun was the only way this was going to be resolved. This is the way most gun encounters resolve, with no shots fired. They basically want you at the total mercy of criminals. Then, after they create that situation, somehow, people turn to them for the solution and offer up more of their freedom and more of their tax money for protection that is never going to come.

      I would have preferred to know what "family crisis" set this attacker off, though. It's an important part of the motive and might help explain his rage. So I think the reporter should have included it. Was he caught stealing, cheating on his wife, abusing a child, what?? This story was not fully told... I feel like they felt it would besmirch the attacker's character to describe the "crisis" but he attempted to MURDER his coworker over it, so it should be disclosed.

I just want to know out of curiosity because it pertains to the case but also I'm sort of annoyed that they're going so far to protect HIS privacy, when he's the one that tried to kill someone. Seems wrong. Like just put ALL the facts out there, report on ALL of it, good/bad/ugly. And it's pretty dang ugly, I'd say... Reporters are too biased, they pick & choose for whatever their own reasons and we don't always get all the facts.

That alone is grounds for termination, but apparently not in corrupt fire department. It's suspect how he even gained access to his files, someone definitely helped him and they should be on the hook too...
