  • The Yeelight Candela has been out for a while, but I'm finally having a look at it! It's an ambient light that can be controlled over Bluetooth with the Yeelight APP; but is it any good?
    Get the Yeelight Candela on AliExpress: bit.ly/XMF_AE_YLC
    GearBest: bit.ly/XMF_GB_YLC
    Banggood: bit.ly/XMF_BG_YLC
    Yeelight - Amazon US: bit.ly/XMF_YLCL
    The candela is a LED-based "candle-like-light" that is really intended to be used as an ambient light; so it does not light up your whole room like a regular lightbulb would do.
    The Candela is battery powered and comes with a built-in 2100 mAh battery that lasts for about 8 hours and can be charged through it's integrated micro USB port in the bottom of the lamp.
    The top of the candela can be rotated to adjust its brightness and when rotating that left-right quickly it can set the light to a flickering-mode which simulates candlelight. On the bottom of the candela there's a switch to turn candela on/off and to set it to Bluetooth mode.
    When Bluetooth is enabled you can remotely set the brightness and turn it on/off using the "Yeelight" APP. You can also recall a number of presets from the APP, however, all that does is set a certain brightness percentage. Unfortunately, you can't set the flickering light through the APP as you would have to physically do that on the lamp itself.
    One downside is that the Candela does not connect to a Bluetooth HUB (yet?) to control the light over WiFi. It would be very cool to be able to voice control the lights using Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Xiao-Ai, but on the Yeelight website, it is mentioned that this is in development. (Not sure how long this would take them, and if they actually commit to doing so...)
    Overall I do like the Candela. It's looks and materials both look and feel great, and although it is not that bright, it is bright enough for its purpose. If they can just tackle the main issue I have with it: connecting to a Bluetooth Hub, I think it's a very cool light to have!
    The Yeelight Candela was crowdfunded a while back and is being sold through the Xiaomi stores as well as Yeelight's Amazon stores. If you want to know more you can have a look at the Yeelight website here: bit.ly/XMF_Yeelight_Com

    Does it have a monochrome lightsource? Like, if you were to shut of all the lights and have only this one shining, how well does it light up blue and green colors? If it's monochromatic it won't light up greens and blues at all, they'll appear black. I've been considering this one, but I'm not a fan of monochromatic LEDs unfortunately.

    Hey man, I was wondering if you could help? I've noticed in a few of your videos (not this one) that you mention a "standard 2 pin Chinese plug" but when I look at the pictures, of the Gateway for example, there are 3 pins and they are at a funny angle to each other. I live in Thailand and the plugs here match the 2 pin one that you mention often. Are there 2 styles of Chinese plug? Is there a way to tell which style Chinese plug you will get when you order online? I was hoping to not use adaptors. Thanks

    • @xiaomify
      @xiaomify  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes, that's correct. China uses the 3-pin with ground, and the 2-pin sometimes as well. I think if you order (depending on which site) they will mention what the plug is that they're using and typically they include a adaptor anyway from the resellerd

    theres no way real candle would be flicking so slow and im not sure if beside color (which most lamp with changable color can have) have something to do with candle. i found nice looking cylindrical lamp with adjustable color brightness and you can even set up schedule for lamp to change settings depending on time and app has more features and most important its 2 times cheaper. also ppl complain about bad quality of lamp problems with turning or crooked core

    • @xiaomify
      @xiaomify  Před 5 lety

      Lighting up a terasse I'm not that sure about. Adding mood lights for a table; yeah sure but the light falloff does not reach much more than 2.5 meter. So you might need more light, but it really depends on how bright you want the light to be, these are just ambient lights to kinda set the mood.

    I have them for abt a year plus already. Great lights but yeelight refuse to add it into the mi ecosystem. So its a "dump" light or a phone remote controlled light all these while. We even mentioned it in yeelight forum. Sad part is they even mentioned it will be part of a BLE gateway ecosystem during the crowd funding phase :(

    I have one of these lights. The battery doesn’t last long, so I have it plugged in most of the time. Won't connect to xiaomi mi home app (no product option) - you have to use yeelight app - that means no automation options. Can't connect to xiaomi v3 gateway (despite being Bluetooth/mesh).
