I think this was a game where Becks played in central midfield. As good crosser as he was, I still think in overall he was better player in the center. There he could use his vision and passing arsenal better together with excellent shooting ability. He was not very fast and not good at challenging in 1vs1 situation, but thanks to his good feet and first touch, he was totally capable of getting past one or two players during rhytm change.
Them were the days. I was at this match. Beckham was class, but not a patch on Peter Beagrie. How he never got a call up when England were crying out for a left footed winger I’ll never know

As a young player he was a central midfielder but Ferguson was obsessed with 4-4-2 and Beckham was the last one introduced to the team.So he had to move to the right if he wanted to played immediately. Most of his best performances come from central midfield or him moving everywhere..He has never been a winger

Beckham had to take on the role of a defensive midfielder because of this, which he was obviously not extremely good at. But his game intelligence is actually brilliant, and he is a great CM.

it's seems to me Beckham feels like main playmaker of Manu eventough his start on wide right.

I am not sure that he was a playmaker but he made things happen with his passing and all his moving around.
