You are the first foreign vloggers who I heard say "kabayan". That's nice. I noticed that more and more foreign vloggers are coming to the country this Christmas season, probably they heard about how Christmas is celebrated in the Philippines and want to experience it. Many of them actually came from UK. There is no single word translation of the word "welcome" to Filipino or Tagalog. It translates to "maligayang pagdating". But we never say it that way, we simply say "welcome". There are many English words that are not easy to say in Tagalog, so we just say it in English. Another thing, you will notice that most often you will be addressed as "sir" or "ma'am". Filipinos are respectful people. You will hear the word "po" at the end of a sentence or phrase, like "thank you po", "salamat po". "Salamat" is thank you in English. "Po" is a sign of respect. The word "yes" can be translated in Tagalog in two ways, "oo" or "opo". "Oo" can be used when you are talking with someone who is not older. "Opo" is usually used when talking with an elderly or someone of authority. "Opo" is "yes" with respect. "No" can be translated to "hindi" or "hindi po".

"Mabuhay" literally means "live" as in when you tell someone, "long live." It's akin to the Spanish word "Viva." It's a way of expressing good wishes. We say hello by asking "how are you?" which is "Kumusta." To make it more polite/formal, you just add the word "po" at the end. "Kumusta po?" But you can also just say hi or hello. :) By the way, thanks for supporting our local shops!!

They are extremely curious how Philippines tagged as the number one country to visit and to explore by millions of tourists and vloggers. This year again we bagged the number one country as the tourist destination when it comes to tourism. We are so grateful to you guys by exposing us through social media how beautiful our country and welcoming people. I hope in your stint to our country you will learn and enjoy our customs and traditions. Enjoy talking to our fellow local Filipino whatever you want to convey because we speak English in every corner of the country. Have a bless day my friend.

Literal meaning is long live but we use it to greet/welcome visitors mostly addressed to non Filipinos.
If you wanna say hello to a Filipino, just say hello, everyone understands but if you want to make it local, you say "Kamusta" which literally means How are you. We borrowed it from spanish "Como estas"

Really glad you are having pleasant experiences in the Philippines. But I was wondering whether the Filipinos in Dubai you asked about where to go in Manila are of a certain age or are not really from Manila but have always heard of Makati and such. Coz Glorietta isn’t really a place where people ‘hang out’ except maybe back in the 80s or 90s when it was renovated to what it looks like now. When Greenbelt was newly renovated (to what it is now), it also became a hangout (I imagine) but back in the 2000s. And now it’s BGC (which I’m pretty sure people have already mentioned you should visit). Can’t wait for your island/province videos though the beaches may not be as nice compared to summertime. Maybe you can let us know what you guys like so we can suggest places that fit more to your liking - like if you guys like beaches or swimming or island hopping or more on trying out food and other places but not really beach bums, etc. 😊

you should visit BGC its the most modern place in Manila. it's best to visit late afternoon or evening more lights and colder coz its really hot here in the Philippines. Also you should visit Mall of Asia, its one of the biggest malls in the world.go there around 4 or 5pm and stay until evening.its beside the bay and there are many people hanging there to watch the sunset and also many places to eat outside. Also visit Chinatown in Binondo its the oldest chinatown in the world. And Divisoria, the cheapest marketplace in the Philippines. For local restaurants try Jollibee, chowking or Mang Inasal.some foreigners like Mang Inasal more bcoz their chicken is bigger and grilled. If you want fun and adventure go to the provinces like the beaches and diving spots in Cebu, Siargao, and Palawan in El Nido and Coron. Watch other foreign vloggers like to get an idea like Mergim Vlogs, Eight Miles from Home, Project Where, januslog, Travel Escapes, Dodo Explorers, Becoming Filipino, and more.

Definitely you guys should never miss BGC or bonifacio global city if you are impressed with Makati ,BGC is even more stunning it is almost a city by itself , a city within a city humongous malls (uptown mall, mitsukoshi mall and many moreshopping areas , tall buildings and wide sidewalks the likes of New York according to foreign tourists ....you will be blown away for sure...

  • @joycei5926

Visit the BGC area. It’s newer than makati. Lots to visit in metro Manila alone. Intramuros, Chinatown (oldest in the world), there’s tagaytay shirt trip form Manila. Hope you go island hoping also, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the white sand beaches.

December 17, 2022 Welcome to the Philippines! I hope you enjoy your stay in the Philippines. There are places to go to and and plenty of things to do while you are there. I am watching your vlogs from Washington, DC where I live. I love the video shots on your vlogs. Your narrations are intelligible and informative. There are more than one CBD (Central Business Districts) in Metro Manila. Another one you should see is BGC. It is a very modern and well-planned city. BGC is short for Bonifacio Global City. Many foreign tourist bloggers seem to approve of the place warmly and enthusiastically. Don't miss it. I think you too will love the place. For history, check out Intramuros - two recommendations already. I will let many others give you a lot more!.
