I have to say, "The Flying Kipper" is one of my favorite RWS stories. It's the story in which Henry is rebuilt, and it's the first time that a real-life location, Crewe, is mentioned. However, I still like the TV Series adaptation much better, mainly because it treats Henry's crash seriously and not as a joke. It also has magnificent visuals and an excellent score, both of which could not have been accomplished by a book.
I should also mention that since "Percy and the Trousers" is a war crime, the United Nations is currently looking for you.

Indeed. Since in the book the fireman of that train in the siding should be scolding Henry for almost killing him rather than spilling his cocoa. But in the TV version th music and tone really make it much more serious.
Gordon the big engine is a underrated book and one of my favorites books .

For some reason, Henry and the Elephant, and Paint Pots and Queens, aired seasons after the other stories they were a part of. Percy and the Trousers, and Leaves on the other hand, would be extended with TV exclusive parts to the stories. Gordon's Whistle and Henry's Sneeze I believe were combined into one episode.
I never fully appreciated these books as a kid, but I just now realize that Thomas was almost left to rust in a hole, if not for Gordon having barely enough strength to pull him out.
