    Id like to see a video talking about how one would optimize a 3m line attack jump while keeping the torso tall. You briefly mentioned how Nishida broad jumped with his torso a bit too low for his back row attack, which gives him the distance needed, but how would he have done that with a tall torso?

    • @fuevue2913
      @fuevue2913 Před 3 lety +7

      I think you have a good point here. With a back row attack, the goal is to explode forward somewhat to help hit the ball at a reasonable distance from the net to reduce the amount of time to react from the enemy team. The priority isn’t just vert here

    @thehboppa Před 3 lety +13

    I love the breakdowns but as others have said, I think you missed the point a little bit on this one. It seemed as though you weren't aware that this was a back row attack and he's not allowed to take off from in front of the 3m line. Maybe taller players off a service reception won't have to dive much if at all, but if this was a dig (and we can't tell via the video) then he may have had to scramble back into position to begin the runup, so he may be overcompensating for a lack of horizontal momentum (seems unlikely though from the vid).
    You make the point that his 'center of mass is way out in front of the penultimate toe-off' but you make it seem as though that's a bad thing... You say there's a more efficient way to cover the distance repeatedly but don't mention what that is. So how exactly is he supposed to cover almost 3 meters of horizontal distance in the air while getting enough height to hit over the net?
    The back row attack in volleyball is a unique jump that isn't seen really in any other instance. The double leg bound might be the closest thing and that's just a plyo drill. Two foot jumpers never usually need to cover this much distance as they're prioritizing the vertical aspect entirely. Obviously it doesn't make sense to compare this to a single leg jump either.
    Diving through the penultimate stride in a front row attack would be inefficient as you say but I don't think it's avoidable from a back row attack. Happy to be proven wrong! Would love to see more of these!

    • @jumpguyty
      @jumpguyty  Před 3 lety +4

      Very detailed response! Thank you! I have another video that I made detailing how to cover distance without diving and sacrificing the peak height of a jump. I don't think a broad jump is a bad thing per se, I just feel as though there is a more advantageous way to cover distance for an attacker. Thank you for taking the time to write this!
